Phyl, it's good to see you and to hear that you got your si joint injection. I'm glad you have a good doctor for that. Good str are hard to find. Yes that spot that wasn't clear where your gb used to be could be scar tissue.
I wanted to get a life alert for one of my friends in Arkansas. Her cat scratched her and she ended up with cat scratch fever and fell in her yard and couldn't get up. She ended up lying there for several hours before she was able to crawl to her phone and almost died. She moved in with her son and his family shortly after that though so no longer needed a life alert. She has since passed away. She was the greatest person I've ever known.I had never known anyone before that grew up in abject poverty. She still lived in more of a tar paper shack that she and her sons built years before I met her. She had such a wonderful attitude toward life and was a person who had the strongest faith and love for God that I've ever known.I've probably mentioned her before. It was a true gift meeting and being able to spend time with her.
CJ, well sounds like you're all set to do your machine quilting. I think that binding would probably be my least favorite thing to do because I'd constantly worry that I wasn't sewing straight and would miss getting some of the fabric sewn

CJ- the way you are speaking about binding these days I am starting to figure out that while you might not love binding, you are getting used to it. glad your heavy duty machine is ready to roll and you have bobbins ready. For some reason that simple step (making extra bobbins) seems to bear such a stress reliever and a time saver.
Phyl- so glad that your doctor is so attentive to your needs and that you slept so well!!! Best of luck with all your testing….and I am hoping and praying for good results. Yes it would be lovely if they could “cure” being fat, other than the old fashioned way of dealing with it which is diet and exercise (a lot of work and determination!).
Ruth, so you got the groceries to your house….for me the worst part is getting it all in the house and put away. I know the online ordering is a nice thing but time consuming. Good to hear that they were better stocked than they indicated. Sounds like your friend was quite a wonderful person and someone who indeed understood the value of life and her faith. What a testimony to all she must have been- I am sure you miss her.
Walked with a woman from bible study this am and then attended a memorial service for my SIL. Glad that is over with- it was difficult for my kids as they just lost their dad too…yet this family in essence got 2 funerals - a tiny one last July and this service today. Hope they can now move on in their grieving. We all mourn a loss at our own pace but i think this family might have been delayed a bit because of covid.
Hope I can get back to normal and get some crafting in later. G

Phyl, it sounds like that house next to you was much like the one my friend had. She had no close neighbors and it was land that someone in her husband's family had homesteaded and it was passed down. She still had no central heating...only a small wood stove. She did have a bathroom I think but no tub or shower or sink. She did have a kitchen. Floors were all thin wood that they found and layers of cardboard. She also had electricity and running water. She died in 2009 shortly after dh and I sold our "fishing shack" there. It was so much fun living there except for the ticks and water moccasins that were around. Ginny, yes people do grieve at their own pace and I suppose they felt that your sil didn't get enough of a funeral during covid. Personally I don't intend to have a funeral at all. I've already mentioned that to my son.He was fine with it. Haven't talked to my daughter about it yet. If she wants to see our dead bodies she can pay the extra out of watever she inherits from us (which is not going to be much but will cover the $250 cost for a few minutes of viewing.)I don't think the dead are looking from wherever they have gone to see if the family gave a "proper" burial. I have no friends that need to come and see me lying in a funeral home. If my family members feel they need to do something (brothers and sister) they can donate to St Jude's Childrens Cancer hopital. Well I finally realized that dgd #6 birthday is not all that far away and I do have things made for her as she is the one that requested a "sweater" which is the one that gave me so much trouble with the pattern but I want to make her this butterfly blanket www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EoGsKQQNW0&t=56s so I've started that. Then I have a pattern that a dear friend sent me for an afgan which I'm thinking of making for ds who's birthday is in NOv.I also have the two grandsons and another grandaughter who's bdays or in that same time frame and those two grandson's are the ones I'm planning to make the spiderman blankets for. We'll see how it all goes.I saw a cute Spiderman beanie baby when we were shopping a couple weeks ago in an actual store.I'll get two of those to go with the blankets (as well as a couple other little cute things for little boys)

Ruth, that butterfly blanket is so very pretty!!! What color would you make for DGD?? Does she have a favorite color? I am so glad you have a new pattern to consider, you do always seem to find new and interesting patterns to work with. As far a funerals go, I sort of agree, that simpler is better. When Dh passed, I opted for a closed casket- we needed to remember him as he was when he was with us. His brother asked for a private viewing of his brother which I arranged- only because he had travelled from great distance for the service. (Wow what a morbid subject). Think the idea of a Spider-Man beanie baby is adorable.
Went to a minor league baseball game with my friends, and got to see the fireworks afterward. A fun evening and I love fireworks.

This blanket is for the grandaughter who's favorite color is pink so I'm making it in a pink I had in my stash which is Pound of Love. It's more of a dusty pink rather than pastel or baby pink. I don't like it very much but I have a lot of it and hope dgd likes it. this is yarn I got a few years ago when Lion was selling this in October for breast cancer awareness and had it for only $3.98/skein. This was before ww's message board moved to Proboards. I told Meg about it and she bought some too. It also reminded me of Meg's disabled daughter and I wonder if Meg's son ever picks her up at the care home and takes her home for awhile like Meg used to do and also wonder if Janet understands why her mother is no longer around.
I love fireworks too but haven't seen any close ones in years. Best I do nowdays is watch the July 4th ones from my porch and can only see the higher ones. I know you had a good time at the game.

Aw Ruth- thanks for the reminder about our gentle friend, Meg. I miss her- we all do. Yes, I figure Janet has some awareness of the loss of her mom, but perhaps does not understand. I figure that if she was that disabled Meg would not have been able to bring Janet home. Sounds like that POL color will be great for the butterfly afghan, pink being a sort of flighty color and a color little girls like. Think it will be lovely. I hope that Megs family donated Megs yarn stash to charity instead of throwing it out. She always had several projects in the works and lined up for the future also. Bet its nice to see fireworks in the distance…sitting in the comfort of your home!!!
Did some snooping this am for a quilted Christmas gift to make for friends. Found an adorable angel tree ornament….I might try to make them. Gotta plan early as I know last year I found myself in a time crunch. Cloudy and a bit gloomy here this am- we had some rain on the overnight. Think a mild cold front comes in later on today. Hoping for a quiet day today- Ds returns to work tomorrow. Just want to stay home and work on the quilt for the little monster kitten. Oh she is not a monster, just a silly little girl.
See ya later Ginny

Hello Everyone Ruth - That butterfly pattern is really pretty, thanks for sharing the link with us. Ginny - I've actually been serious talking about how much I liked making binding and binding my quilts. It's close to being my favorite thing except for looking at fabric. I have my heavy duty machine set up and all 4 of my pieces are sandwiched and pinned, so I'm hoping to quilt some of them today. The whole sandwiching process of quilting is definitely one of my least favorite parts. That's why I like the longarm machines. It's so nice to load a large 108 inch wide fabric on it, then load a roll of batting and all you have to do then is lay your quilt top on those - much easier but of course you have to have a longarm Hope all of you are having a nice day and getting to do some crafting or just something fun for yourself. Take care

Ginny, I was thinking the same thing yesterday...that I hoped that Meg's family didn't just throw away her yarn. There are so many people that could put that yarn to good use and some that can't afford to buy their own or make things to donate and could use some free yarn to help with that. Yes Meg had a lot of projects in mind and I do remember that she was planning to make a throw of some kind for the others at the care home.I've seen a few angel ornament patterns available and they are lovely. It's a good idea to start early. I really dislike having to rush at the last minute and I bet you do also.
CJ, I think the sandwiching would be the hardest also. You would have to have a large space available.
It's getting smokier and smokier here. I really need to update my emergency bag. I hope to never have to use it but want to have it ready just in case.
Oh I found that this blanket is also called the Red Velvet stitch. The woman who has the video I was using has a habit of pulling her work toward her while crocheting and it gets too close to her camera and gets too blurry so that you can't really see what she's doing. I found another that is not really a video of a person crocheting but is a video made of pictures with diagrams and arrows to show you exact details. It also has written directions right with the pictures and is extremely helpful

CJ- so you caught the bug!!! Really making the quilt sandwich is not so bad on a smaller quilt….but yes the binding and batting portion is nice because then you see the true beauty of the quilt. Sounds like you are all lined up to get another 4 quilts made finished. Wow- quite an accomplishment. Yes its easier if you have a long arm. But I really got to enjoy the quilting process. I am sure your quilts will come out well.
Ruth the red velvet stitch sounds like a pretty blanket. I wonder if the woman who made the video actually viewed it so that she could see that its not good to illustrate what she is doing. Another video of diagrams and step by step process would be super helpful- much more so than a poorly made video!!!
Speaking of poorly made…well I finished the quilt top for the silly kitten. Will iron it and make the quilt sandwich tomorrow. Thanks to a missed step in the directions I elected not to put the sashing all around the perimeter- the sashing is in the middle and i went straight to the border. (The writer does not have you cut enough pieces for sashing). It does not really bother me…and will not bother the cat either. Just glad it is almost done.
Have s good night all Ginny
