If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

New Challenge!
Labor of Love, July 7 - September 4
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes âhow can you love someone else if you canât love yourselfâ.
There are many ways we donât show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over âwhy did I drink too muchâ and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierâ. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start forgive yourself, or tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnât here, so letâs deal with the present.
So why is it so hard? The mind set "I messed up today so might as well just finish the bottle or finish the bag of chipsâ has to be changed.
The purpose of this eight week challenge is to discover the reasons behind our drinking and do the hard work it takes to change the behavior. It is a journey of self discovery that you may or may not want to share. This can be painful, this can be bring up old memories, this can be too difficult to tackle. The reasons are so varied. But remember this is a safe place to vent and share and if you are not comfortable sharing here, feel free to use our private FB site (by invitation request).
So does anyone think that alcohol is your friend? Anyone think that the next morning just looks so much better after a night of drinking? Does drinking bring you serenity? So why do we drink?
Some people can have an easy time of giving it up but for most, it just isn't that easy. Many of us start off great and then hit the wall at 10 days. Have you tried to journal your feelings as each day progresses and see what happens when you hit that wall?
"I will let the serene moments wash over me. I will cherish them. They soften me. And the blows of today's tumultuous storm will be lessened."

<162.6> up due to late night cheese sandwich!
It is a new-ish photo...taken a few months ago maybe? Hair is shorter than that and I might post a new one in the future? I am not sure what we will do with the wheat. There are stones and sticks and things in it so it would need to be looked over carefully before cooking or grinding to make flour. I suppose we could sell some or plant next year or something? I know I don't want to make flour and bake in summer!
I have read but too hot to write personals today...sorry.

DH & I walked around the clubhouse yesterday, it was cloudy and cooler than usual. When we got back, I put together a wire 3-shelf unit in the basement, set up a TV that we had picked up for free during the community garage sale and attached a cheap DVD player to it so I can do exercise videos in the basement when the weather is bad. I shopped online for an upright freezer for the basement, the one I liked at Home Depot was back-ordered until Sept 15. Went to the Lowe's site, found one I liked there that is being delivered today! Fingers crossed they actually show up as it's supposed to rain most of the day. We got some heavy rain in the afternoon, more in the evening.
The hummingbirds are very active this morning.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Glad church was good and you had a nice lunch at Olive Garden with your friend and her daughter.
GG- WTG walking 9/9 hours. Glad your foot is okay. GL with the new plan.
Carole- Yay for a great time at your friend's cottage and the good shopping at Ace!
Cindy- Congrats on 3 years AF for you & DS! LOL over the roomba running in the middle of the night.

I need to come up with some more stuff for my daily list! I've done the few things I had for today! LOL
Cindy - Congrats on 3 years!! Sending prayers for DS's job search. I know the right thing will come along for him where he will be valued and appreciated!
Amy - we are supposed to get some rain today too. The rain we got last night helped a lot but we need more. Yay for finding the upright freezer! I would love to switch to an upright instead of my little chest freezer. It's so much easier to organize and see what you have in an upright one!
Cathy - sorry about the heat!
Jan - hope you are enjoying your time at the cabin!
Carole - that is a hoot that you and your friends spent so much money at Ace! So glad you had a good time!
GG - yay for staying active!
Ok - I'm going to search for something to do! LOL. Everyone have a great day1 Murphy

Hi girls. We had a lovely time with DD and Rylee yesterday. They brought food and DSIL cooked so DH wouldnât have to. After supper Rylee put on her new boots and played in the creek. She had so much fun! I got 9/9 active hours and again hit my 3000 steps. But I was sore. Today I was still sore, so I quit after 6 hours. Hopefully a good nights sleep will help.
Murphy: What did you find to do to keep busy?
Cindy: 3 Years! Thatâs amazing! Have you told DS youâre worried about him? Lol about the roomba!
Amy: Iâm glad you were able to find a freezer. I know they were hard to come by for awhile.
Cathy: It sure sounds crazy over there!
Carole: Lol about Ace shopping!!

Hi Everyone!
Sleep was elusive after 4 AM but decided to read instead of getting out of bed. By six AM we had a torrential rain storm...at 8 AM a massive boom!...went about the house to see if anything had been struck but all seemed okay, other than the TV went out....so I just kept reading. It became very obvious that new gutters are definitely needed.
The hummingbirds arrived today! I was watching a bird hanging upside down on a branch and DUH, it is a hummingbird! There are at least four but will see what happens in the days to come. I did manage to get fresh nectar into the feeder between rain storms.
Murphy, thanks for getting us started. Are there any other activities at your church that might be of interest to you? Or classes at JoAnn's or Michael's? As I spent the day reading, everything that "should" get done didn't...other than kitchen and bathrooms cleaned and the coffee pot! What did you decide to add to your list?
Amy, hope your freezer arrived! I have an upright one and I do find it easier to keep track of what is in there. Hope the rainstorms have eased off. I jumped when the thunder boomed! I put up the cheap plastic hummingbird feeder and they seem content with it. I have a beautiful glass and enamel one and that just doesn't seem to entice them.
Cathy, sorry it is so hot! I like your "new" photo!
GG, I have talked to DS about my concern...he has told me I have every right to question him/be concerned but he knows he does not want to go back to it. When he saw his PC doctor about two months ago, his doctor questioned him about AA, support groups, etc....he was having trouble believing that DS could do it on his own and decided to do blood tests even though he hadn't fast. All tests were fine. He isn't really on his own...he has friends that know the issue and also don't drink. I can just visualize Rylee in her new boots! Here's to a good night sleep!
Jan, hope your cabin "tasks" are going well, including taking time for yourself!
Carole, I love the shopping at ACE Hardware. Glad you have a great group of friends!
Liz, thinking of you and DH! We are here for you!
Going back to reading...about 900 pages in the book but enjoying it...fifth book in the Cormoran Strike Series. Maybe tomorrow I will get some steps done!!
Hugs, Cindy
