There have been breakthrough cases of fully vaccinated people catching the virus. Per the CDC, as of June 25, 4115 people have been hospitalized with Covid-19 despite being fully vaccinated. Of those, 750 died. 76% were over 65.
A very, very, very small percentage of all those vaccinated: 161,232,483. But good to be aware.
The total vax number is as of July 15 vs. June 25 for the breakthrough cases. But you get the drift.

Some updated info: The current percentage of fully vaxxed who are hospitalized in U.S. is 3%.
A U.K. health spokesman caused a stir yesterday when he misspoke and said 60% of UK hospitalizations were of fully vaccinated people. It was actually that 60% were unvaccinated. That begs the question, were the remaining 40% vaccinated? No, 15% were fully vaxxed, the rest had only had one shot of the two shot regime or did not report their status. Whew!
Aside from too many people getting the virus who don't need to by avoiding vaccination, the more the virus circulates the better the chances it has to mutate. And it seems to always mutate to a more efficient virus.
Washington state has been seeing the Gamma variant (the Brazilian one) 17% of cases, I believe. I've read conflicting data on how contagious/lethal this variant is compared to the others.

Per the WHO (as of 7/6/21): Variants of Concern: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta. Variants of Interest: Eta, Iota, Kappa, and Lambda.
There are literally hundreds of different strains of Covid that have been identified, only a few get designated as "variants". I'm guessing by prevelance.

I bought more masks from Amazon. I am wearing masks when I leave my apartment because some in this building were not vaccinated. I got some cotton adjustable from Amazon. I got throwaway blue mask three play like for inside medical units. I like my mask that is cotton better because I can breathe betterI bought two pairs of 2.75 magnifcation reading glassses because my glasses broke. I am getting a new pair soon. But the old glasses I had I could not see well out of them. These work for reading and the computer. I got 2 pairs of those. I weigh 210. not good but I can not exercise with my wheelchair.

amyrs , on youtube, look for "sit and be fit". There are a lot of chair exercises on that PBS series Yes, they are excellent. I relied on Sit And Be Fit when I broke my foot several years ago. I remember a chair yoga program on PBS also - can't remember the exact title.

bbbearsmom, I always forget about YouTube. I like to see my exercises on the big screen. Went grocery shopping yesterday. Indoor mask wearing is recommended now in my county, but not required. I would say about 80% were wearing masks. I did too. When I went to financial planner on Tuesday, the workers were not masked, most of the customers were. We did not mask. There was a plexiglass divider in the conference room where we met with our planner. Then we went to a florist. She was not masked and we didn't either. So playing it on a case by case basis. Grocery shopping for sure, just as a courtesy to the workers who are in there for hours exposed to an endless stream of people.

One more thing, I am just listening on CNBC to Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former FDA Director, current Board Member of Pfizer and Alumina, and he mentioned that the intial viral load of a Delta variant infection is 1000 times greater than the original Wuhan strain; viral load equating to the amount of virus shed by the infected individual. Thus the concern of asymptomatic or mild Covid breakthrough cases among the fully vaccinated. The original assumption was that even with a breakthrough case in a fully vaccinated person, the viral shedding would be so slight there was not a very great risk of transmission even to an unvaccinated person. Now they just don't know, not enough data yet.

The drift I'm getting from headlines and light reading of articles is that we are toast when it comes to this virus. Because so many people are not vaccinating it's never going to go away. Also, now there is the concern we need booster shots. Here's hoping they manage that correctly.
