If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

New Challenge!
Labor of Love, July 7 - September 4
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes âhow can you love someone else if you canât love yourselfâ.
There are many ways we donât show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over âwhy did I drink too muchâ and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierâ. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start forgive yourself, or tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnât here, so letâs deal with the present.
So why is it so hard? The mind set "I messed up today so might as well just finish the bottle or finish the bag of chipsâ has to be changed.
The purpose of this eight week challenge is to discover the reasons behind our drinking and do the hard work it takes to change the behavior. It is a journey of self discovery that you may or may not want to share. This can be painful, this can be bring up old memories, this can be too difficult to tackle. The reasons are so varied. But remember this is a safe place to vent and share and if you are not comfortable sharing here, feel free to use our private FB site (by invitation request).
So does anyone think that alcohol is your friend? Anyone think that the next morning just looks so much better after a night of drinking? Does drinking bring you serenity? So why do we drink?
Some people can have an easy time of giving it up but for most, it just isn't that easy. Many of us start off great and then hit the wall at 10 days. Have you tried to journal your feelings as each day progresses and see what happens when you hit that wall?
"I will let the serene moments wash over me. I will cherish them. They soften me. And the blows of today's tumultuous storm will be lessened."

We decided to check out the Silver Comet trail after dropping DD off at work. We headed west, passed one trailhead, decided to go on to the next. We probably should not have walked so far, it seemed like a long way back. Altogether I walked over 8 miles and 21,000 steps for the day. On the way home we stopped at Hobby Lobby and then went to Costco to get some stuff for our new freezer. It's the first time we've been to this newly opened Costco, although it pretty much looks like any other Costco I've ever visited. Besides the frozen stuff, we got a rotisserie chicken, a Caesar salad, some brats for Friday night, and a nice piece of salmon.
It rained quite a bit yesterday and it looks like more today. The lawn needs mowing, hopefully it will get a chance to dry out soon.
Liz- Sorry DH has had such a tough time of it. I was surprised that he had fish so early post-op. Glad he felt like making silly faces at Isabel, a good sign, surely.
Jan- Enjoy your cabin time, thanks for checking in.
GG- Glad your hip is better and you've been enjoying your zucchini goodies. GL with WI & the new plan.
Carole- Yay for a productive day off & your 22-mile bike ride. There are a lot of bike riders on the Silver Comet trail, we were startled several times when they zoomed by us. The trip to Biloxi sounds fun!
Cindy- So sorry about your friend's DH. Hope your arms feel better today.
Cathy- Glad the electricity cuts have not been too bad. Hope you are able to catch up on your reading.

Hi girls! Well, I knew it! I was up .8 and itâs all DHâs fault! Lol Pie and muffins with cream cheese frosting 2 days didnât work! Lol oh well. We just got back from the grocery store. I could never have gone alone. Iâm so tired! Itâs been almost a month since my surgery. Shouldnât I be over that? Iâm sore from walking. Plus tonight is my first PT. Ugh! Well, DH and I weighed and took our measurements. So far so good! The biggest difference will be more protein, less carbs and FRUIT, more veggies and a fat at every meal. Iâm still going to track using the purple plan. Iâm interested to see what happens!
DD decided to put Rylee in preschool 5 days a week. But then she found out that she will be going back to her office Monday. So Iâm not sure if that will change her plans or not. I told DD I didnât care as long as she spends the night at least once a month!
Cindy: So many people needing prayers!
Cathy: Iâm glad you have had electricity! Maybe itâs a good thing that the wine is so expensive! đ¤Ş
Murphy: Whatâs the latest on Bud? Do you have choir tonight?
Amy: I missed the mail today. It will go out tomorrow. I was surprised that there isnât a vowel in todayâs word!
Carole: Anything with Margaritaville in its name will be fun! Going with family or friends?

Hello friends! Iâm at work but only an hour to go. Iâm going golfing after, I went to kickboxing this morning and my legs are sore from yesterdayâitâll be interesting as we walk the 9 holes. Iâm so tired of my up and down 5 or so pounds. Iâm going to get this off and stay off. I looked at my license and it says 165âI need to lose 8 pounds. The family is going to Biloxi! Really looking forward to it. I feel like I havenât really seen Tyler this summer, heâs now in Las Vegas with his gf and her family. Alexis works until 6:30, eats dinner and disappears into her room. I think this is a better choice for us vs Colorado. Still not totally happy with DH but weâre getting along better. Going to have a serious talk after vacay. So tired of the same arguments, things change for a bit then go back to the same. Iâm not saying Iâm innocent in all of this, trust me! Breaks overđ˘. Cindy if you have any suggestions of things to do in Biloxi please let me know! Love you all!

Hi All!
Took the night time pain reliever...definitely slept well and now pain till the evening...need to do some exercises to see if I can work out the shoulder....don't need my right shoulder to go out on me.
Lawn guy was here today...asked if I wanted the bushes trimmed out and said no. It probably needs to be done but I need to assess what I am going to do with the semi dead ones first. Still waiting on the gutters!
Amy, great job on the steps!! Woot! I am just not doing it and need to do better! I know it was helping me.
GG, sounds like DH was taking good care of you! Give yourself time! Two weeks for a cold so probably more than four weeks for a surgery! Are you feeling good about Rylee going to preschool?
Murphy, how are you doing? How is Bud? and Carolyn? Hope you can check in tomorrow!
Cathy, hope the electricity is on going and you are doing well! If the electricity goes out, do you have lanterns run by batteries? Just trying to imagine.
Liz, hope DH is doing better and better! How are you doing?
Carole, it has been a long time since I lived in Mississippi and I guess casinos are a thing but I loved Ship Island, Ohr-OâKeefe Museum Of Art, Old Biloxi Cemetery and I've heard there is an impressive and emotional Katrina Memorial. I always like to go to museums. There are great restaurants but can't remember any of them by name. I can only imagine how much nicer things are now then when I was there. Enjoy, enjoy! When do you leave?
Jan, hope you had a wonderful day!
My friend's husband is doing well...he was up and walking today though in pain. He is doing work emails on his phone.
My nephew has been meeting with a different doctor each day with PET scan on Saturday to determine the spread.
Need to motivate myself to get outside and restore some of the garden, feed the birds, set up the solar bird fountain, and just care about it all. Wake up motivated!
Hugs to all, Cindy

As for how we have light when there is no electricity...we used to have lights that plugged in to recharge batteries in them and would come on when electricity cut, had a UPS with big car batteries to run limited electric in the house in off hours, and candles. We are still "okay" with the cuts from 5-7 am and pm BUT if it were to get worse we would probably go back to some of the alternatives of the past.
