Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Those hazy, smoky skies are still hanging on. Hi of around 78 today with a chance of rain later.
Robin, I wasn't quite sure as to when you and your DH were returning to the city. I kind of thought it would be yesterday. Your DH is quite the worker, isn't he? To figure out how to do that call, at the sea shore! I agree with Gareth, your sons are very good looking. Well, let's say the whole family is very good looking. I am still amazed at how much growth there has been with Maddie!!! Next time we see a picture of her, she will be going to school!!! Your trip sounds like it was a big success! The way it sounds, we can assume you were happy with it too, right? Think you will do it again next year? Smart that you stayed there to finish up cleaning up.
Marsha, I too can relate to managing a life I did not think I would have. Compared to what I wanted to do, when I was in high school to how my life turned out, my junior high self would be shocked to know! Although I am happy that I am happy, and taking care of myself, with no ones help. My high school self would have expected that. Who is all going with you and your DH to the exhibit, in Milwaukee? DS? Oh, I think you say, that DD will be meeting you in Milwaukee. What does your DD have planned in her mind for after graduation? Does she want to get married? Wouldn't that be unreal if she gets married, and then you will not have to worry about all her issues and such? I have to say, DH and I were SO happy when both DD's were married! Although they did call DH when there were issues to be fixed that their DH had no idea of how to fix.
Gareth, I hope you didn't go back out for a walk later, when the air is so close, and warmer? I stay in during those times, as with my lung issues, I do suffer. Hope everything went well with your DH boss surgery yesterday. Boy, he has a long way to go, before being discharged! Usually they boot you out of the hospital as soon as possible. Nothing to eat or drink? Same here, not being able to drink water, would bug me like crazy! How do they expect his organs, like kidney's to work, with out getting water? The smell of smoke was not real heavy, just a bit in the air, I think that maybe the people who smoke cigarettes would not notice it, but the rest of us who don't would have noticed it just a bit. It was shortly after that, when I got home that the DNR issues an air quality alert. Glad to hear the start of your day yesterday was back to normal.
Pinky, so sorry you are going to be having those sweltering temps. You would think with being so far north, you wouldn't have to worry about those kind of temps. For me trips would be just around the US, even Minocqua this fall to begin with. I was at the Black Hills, way back in 1969, as a teen, so would love to go back there. Of course I would like to visit most National Parks. I hope you have a blast next week! I would not be surprised if you are the only one to not read or see Gone with the Wind. I am somewhat surprised you have not. That is one of those books we read as teenage girls in high school. I think this is the time of summer that we go into a more drought type of summer, so good luck with those trees!
Anngie, lucky you, perfect weather!!! My DS was upset when after she said that Saturday night, after they were home from the Memorial, she realized that now is the time to say goodbye to my DH, and not keep mourning his loss. So after she said that to me, while we were talking on the phone, I agreed with her, and expanded on somethings for me, that I am going to run my life now, as I want it run, do what I want, without people getting all huffy about it, and putting up reasons why I can't do this, or can't do that. She actually got mad! Did she think I needed to get her approval??? Or I should keep mourning DH?? I will be sending you all a PM, and then I can expand on that thought. About the dress, yes, even my DSIL, who is a sewer now by profession, had never seen that hem, and her and some other ladies were all gathered around figuring it out. It has ties spaced out all around the hem, so you can tie the hem up, or untie and have the hem longer. Since tied up the hem is not short, I went with that for the Memorial. I am jealous when you guys all talk about your book review's. I am still not in that frame of mind to read. I wish I was.
Carol, funny, but I too get irritated by Scarlett now too. As adults we can see what a spoiled, racist woman she was. As a teen reading the story, she was a heroin. I don't think I would ever be hard up enough to reread that book. Just wouldn't appeal to me. Great idea to declutter your sewing stuff. I did that awhile ago, so at least that is one thing done! I really need to get down to the garage and give it my full attention! Soon it will be winter, and I will be complaining that I did not focus on that job, lol!!! HAHAHA, I agree about the oysters!!!
I was planning on going to the store today, but for the life of me, can't remember why!! I am running low on a few vitamins, but those can wait till the weekend, so who knows! I made the Mexican Meatloaf from the WW recipe, last night for dinner, and have enough for at least 2 more meals. I just remembered this recipe the other day, one that I loved, and DH did not, so I quite making it. Now that he is gone, I can make it whenever I want!!
I will be posting a PM in a little bit, for you all. Be nice to me.
Have a great day everyone!

Karen, I would love it if we did this every year. I wouldn't mind if my DGF offered it again, although I don't know if that is really what my DH wants. But, I can task him with trying to find some n house that will work. The kids love the beach, so why not that? Although we could find a lake house in the Poconos. As far as mourning your DH, I am sure that there will be times in the future that you will mourn the loss even though you have decided to move on. Where you will remember things fondly. Although having a degree of independence, or finding that other men find you attractive, are certainly big plusses of your new single life. Is your DS still married to her first husband? I know there are a lot of people who have been married more than once, so just curious.
I have to get moving, going to drop paperwork off at the court house, then have to go pick up something from another lawyers office.

One more question Karen, just curious, was there a specific brand that dress was? I really like the idea of that hem. I wonder if I could find it online. I also love the sleeve length because I won't wear short sleeves.

Robin, that dress tag says Tango Mango. Made in India. I looked to see if there was another tag somewhere on the dress, for washing instructions, and could not find any, so that is a disappointment. The material of the dress is a stretchy kind of material. I think it would do ok in the wash machine. My DS is married to her 2nd husband, she married somewhat right out of high school to her first husband, but they divorced maybe 2 years into that marriage, then met and married her present husband shortly after. So they have been together about 45 or 46 years.
Gareth, how did you post that picture, the other day? I am trying to post a picture and just can not pull it up on here, from my files.

Karen - dd is hoping to work for at least a year, then go back to school for her computer science degree, probably a second bachelors because she doesn't know what the requirements are for a masters in computer science. But right now she just needs to be done with school. No marriage plans. She would need a boyfriend for that! DD is the only one going with dh and I to the exhibit. I invited ds and ddil back when I bought the tickets but they declined. I think they are planning their dual birthday celebration that weekend.
I texted ds and ddil asking about celebrating their birthdays with us, I have not heard an answer. I have their gifts and I was hoping that we could see them when we are in Milwaukee, but I expect we will just stop by and leave the gifts on the patio. I think they will be busy.
DD will be home today by lunch time. She has a doctor appointment this afternoon so I will go with her for that, follow up for the endoscopy. We know they didn't find anything so I don't know what the visit will cover.
Last night I made the salmon with peach mango salsa from WW. DH commented that it is his favorite fish recipe. We make it a lot in the summer because in the winter you can't find good peaches.

Already warm again when I walked this morning. Still hazy too. I walked longer since we won't be walking later. Yesterday we cut it short because of the heat so we decided we wouldn't even attempt it today. Really looking forward to seeing my nephew later when we get together with the family.
The last I heard about DH's boss is that the surgeon said the surgery was less operable than he'd hoped. It seems the cancer is affecting many abdominal organs. He was able to "repipe" the small intestines in hopes that he'll be able to eat and live the rest of his life fairly normally. He took out the area infected by the cancer to bypass the blockages and reattached a smaller area. The next 10 days are crucial. DH's boss's hope is to live long enough to see his first DGC due this Fall.
Karen, DH's boss is being fed through a tube in his nose so he's getting some fluids that way.
I just finally read Gone With The Wind a couple of years ago. I'm glad I read it but can't say it was my favorite book.

Karen, this is the directions I found to post a picture...
For Pictures use Goggle Images, brings up a search and put in what you want in a picture and when the images come up Right click on what you want and click on copy image address. At top of the create post page on here, the line with the font stuff over to the right is a small picture right next to the envelope picture it is the insert image picture click on it and Delete the HTTP:// that comes up and right click and click on Paste, the click insert image.

Karen, I think people are great at running someone else's life, but don't like it when someone does the same to them. I think your DS is overstepping in telling you what to do.
I went to Walmart and Dollar Tree today. Neither was very busy. I had to get sympathy and get well cards at Dollar Tree. I seem to go through those fast.
Gareth, sorry about your DH's boss.
Really not much going on here. I have had a quiet, boring week.

I woke up today not even knowing what day it was! For some reason I thought it was the weekend. Glad it’s not.
We’re planning a BBQ on Saturday with three other couples up at a lake near here so I’m thinking about side dishes, etc. that would be easy to make. Also, a friend brought over yellow squash and zucchini so I have more than enough to make a squash casserole. Very simple as it uses cream of chicken soup and a box of stove top dressing. One would never know what’s in it but it’s delicious. Has anyone ever made it?
I got a call last night from my soon-to-be DDIL inviting me to go wedding gown shopping with her, her sister and mother in September. I can’t tell you how happy I am that she’s including me. The bridal shops are overwhelmed right now and she could only get September dates. The wedding is August 27, 2022. In fact, one asked why she waited so long!

Anngie, that's so great that she did that. I think you might remember me having issues with that way back when. It's the kind of thing you remember forever, for good or for bad.
Karen, now I can't even remember my point of why I asked about your DS, whether she was married to her first husband or not. I guess with her story though, it might as well be her one and only. I thought I could try to find a dress by that company to have for the Jewish holidays this year, being as it is so early and will be warm, but the only things I saw were sleeveless. That's why I thought that one would be so perfect.
Gareth, sorry to hear about DH's boss. That is really too bad.
Marsha, I have yet to buy tickets to that Van Gogh exhibit. Now I am so unsure about going out too many places indoors with what is going on.
Carol, good to get greeting cards at Dollar Tree. My DDIL's family on both sides are big card people. I realized that one of the reasons I am not is because we used to sell greeting cards, so know how overpriced they are. I sometimes do go to a card store near me that sells them for 50% off, which still, by the way, gives them an excellent mark-up, and they are not that inexpensive even there.
We had a very nice lunch out for our networking group. We ordered a few appetizers for the table, then I had a special salad with grilled shrimp, that was terrific, and I am still full. We had just gotten a new Debit card for the account, and it wasn't activated yet. I am the treasurer, so I put the bill on my credit card, now I have to go to write myself a check so that I can pay off the card right away. I love the fact that I can deposit with my phone.
