If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

New Challenge!
Labor of Love, July 7 - September 4
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes âhow can you love someone else if you canât love yourselfâ.
There are many ways we donât show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over âwhy did I drink too muchâ and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierâ. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start forgive yourself, or tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnât here, so letâs deal with the present.
So why is it so hard? The mind set "I messed up today so might as well just finish the bottle or finish the bag of chipsâ has to be changed.
The purpose of this eight week challenge is to discover the reasons behind our drinking and do the hard work it takes to change the behavior. It is a journey of self discovery that you may or may not want to share. This can be painful, this can be bring up old memories, this can be too difficult to tackle. The reasons are so varied. But remember this is a safe place to vent and share and if you are not comfortable sharing here, feel free to use our private FB site (by invitation request).
So does anyone think that alcohol is your friend? Anyone think that the next morning just looks so much better after a night of drinking? Does drinking bring you serenity? So why do we drink?
Some people can have an easy time of giving it up but for most, it just isn't that easy. Many of us start off great and then hit the wall at 10 days. Have you tried to journal your feelings as each day progresses and see what happens when you hit that wall?
"I will let the serene moments wash over me. I will cherish them. They soften me. And the blows of today's tumultuous storm will be lessened."

After we dropped off DD and walked at the lake, we stopped at Walmart to get some sweet corn for dinner and a few other things, including a black eyed Susan that jumped into my cart. When we got home, I planted it and did some weeding. Had breakfast/lunch then settled on the couch for the afternoon. Made pasta salad, cucumber, tomato, onion salad, and the put the ingredients for the chocolate lava cake in the crockpot. DH grilled the brats, delicious with some of the onions they were boiled with. After dinner I was hoping to play Trekking (the national parks game), but DH wanted to play Winky Dink instead. DS & I won, but it was a close one. Stayed up late with the kids watching the Olympics opening ceremony, wasn't sure what was going on most of the time. The U.S. team looked nice in their outfits.
Yesterday was hot and sunny with no rain. Today is looking like a repeat. We finally have blooms on our crape myrtle- yay.
Carole- WTG being down 4# and planning on being AF. Have fun at the block party. Publix key lime pie is delicious. I used to buy the juice and make my own, also good. When my dad was alive, he used to drive down to Miami to buy a key lime pie at a little hole in the wall shop. They put meringue on theirs, very yummy.
GG- WTG for 2 days with no snacking. LOL over DH doing his own thing. It seems like my DH is always eating, yet he is losing weight. I think it might be the diabetes drug he is on. Glad your exercises were easier and you are able to get up the stairs without a cane.
Cindy- Does it hurt when Ainsley walks on you? Our cats are such porkers, it hurts a lot. Glad you were able to talk/text with your family. Sounds like your nephew has a tough road ahead. We have played Scattergories and I think we still have the game, may need to give it another try. I know what you mean about running up and down the steps, even if I could do it, I worry about falling.
Murphy- Hope to see you back here soon.

Hello friends! I ended up having 1 drink last night. Today Iâm going for 0. Itâs hot outside, not looking too forward to this band thing. I think I may bring this stand up umbrella thing. Tomorrow I have nothing to do, looking forward to that. Have a great day! Murphy?

Hi girls! So my big news is this. I couldnât wait until Weds to get on the scale. DH told me not to do it. That I would just get upset. But I couldnât stand it. I had to. I was down 4 pounds since Weds!! I couldnât believe it!! Looks like I will be continuing! đ
Nothing new. Did I mention yesterday that I walked on the gravel and my hip didnât hurt? And today I was walking in the grass and it didnât hurt!! Iâm starting to really believe that I will be able to walk!

Hi All!
So obviously WOOT GG! Congrats on the loss. So happy that you are doing well with the walking! Keep doing what you are doing!
Carole, one drink shows great self control...go for AF tonight! You are in control!
Cathy, hope you are getting what needs to be managed with electricity before it cuts out! Glad you are prepared!
Amy, it makes me laugh when Ainsley walks up to my face and settles down to purr. I seriously have so many blankets on me that I don't feel the pressure from her walking on me. She usually sleeps on my feet. Those black eye Susans are pretty bold jumping into the shopping carts! They seem to think they should be in our yards. Sounds like a nice day! I need to make a pasta salad for tomorrow. We have been eating up leftovers this week which included chili dogs! Trying to use up the stuff in the freezer. I'm pretty good about marking stuff with date purchased but after finding so much stuff more than six months old, I'm trying to do better. I saw a Ree Drummond Pepperoni Potato salad that sounds tasty.
Murphy, please check in! You know we are here for you!
Liz, hope all is going well for you and family and that DH is continuing to progress.
Jan, waving hi!
The heat we are experiencing just makes me move slowly. Stayed up too long watching the Harlan Coben "The Innocent" but loved it...now going to read the book. So maybe tonight I could stop with the mysteries. Oh wait, Making the Cut is on Amazon!
Hugs to all! Cindy
