Becky, been there with the hunt and destroy ants on the counter top and then the clean up. Havenāt done it with fire ants, though. Sunny and dry here as well.
Impressive lightening bolt, Linda. I read that the bldg the disputed ballots are in in Maricopa County has several leaks.
It was a nice trip to YS. Bibb and romaine lettuce. Tomatoes. Red onions. Potatoes. Zucchini. Eggplant. Cucumber.Blue Lake beans. Baba ghanouj is made. I made a broccoli and cauliflower salad and put some red onion in. Weāll have lots of salad this week.
Waving to Karen, Kathy, Liz and Denise.

Kathy, I listened to your cousin's daughter's song on YouTube. She has a great voice. Kind of reminds me of Aimee Mann, lead singer of the 80s group Til Tuesday. Most of my grandmother's family were Catholic, so I may also need to check out those records. Where are they? The UK records on FindMyPast may have some things from DF's paternal GF, so I may have to check those out as well. Has your rain cleared out? That little system looks like it's getting a bit more intense. I wonder where it will go.
Did they find the 4 year old, Linda? People there aren't used to all that rain, so she apparently didn't know she shouldn't drive into it. How much rain have you gotten so far? That was some nasty lightning bolt. Hope you didn't have much of that. My maternal GM had 4 brothers and 5 sisters and her DF's brother had more kids. They were from Austria and the last name was Hannig. But for whatever reason, a couple of her brothers and several cousins Americanized it to Hanning (with the "a" pronounced like an "e"). So it makes it rather confusing in genealogy to determine if we are related to anyone but the Hannigs. Interesting article. That sounds like a Tennessee conservative. A former employee and FB friend was the same way and I even snoozed her for a while because I was tired of hearing the anti-vax rhetoric. She got covid and ended up in the hospital and was lucky to get the cocktail before it got too bad. Then she started singing about how everyone should get the vaccine. Some people just have to learn the hard way (which she is notorious for doing anyway).
Chele, nice haul at YS. Good time of the year for lots of salads. Enjoy! Any more eye problems? I walked to the mailbox yesterday afternoon (close to a 1/4 mile round trip) and mine have been itching ever since. We don't have as much haze but it's still there. We have 60% chance of rain on Monday, so I hope it will wash it out of the atmosphere.
I hope you do get your jewelry through the sample sale, Becky. That would be sweet! The news article I saw on the drones was the first time I had heard of it and I immediately thought of Texas. LOL on September rains. Remember we got married during Hurricane Gilbert. I picked my second cucumber this morning and had it for lunch. I have a few more on the vine that are really small. But you know how fast they can grow. I don't blame you for not missing your garden in August. Mine is just starting to get fired up, but my blueberries are about gone. Sorry about the fire ants in the house. Good luck getting rid of them. Have you tried spraying 50/50 vinegar and water on them? I have heard that blue Dawn and water (maybe 1 TBSP soap in a quart of water) will also kill them but I never tried it. I wonder why your phone died so soon. I've never had an iPhone but my Motorolas have never died like that and usually what happens is the battery will get weak and won't stay charged so I have to get a new one. Was Best Buy able to fix it?
Liz, I hope you have a quiet weekend. Good luck with the joint commission this coming week.
Dale cut lespedeza until the mower gave out. He thinks it's bad gas but it's getting some age on it, so he's talking about getting a new one. We have a clean bed and associated laundry is done. I also cooked eggs, rice, and oats in the IP. Then I listened to some podcasts on soil enrichment and the benefits of plant based diets for cancer and gut health. the latter two mentioned the major benefits of broccoli sprouts, which I happened to have a small package of. They are now soaking in my sprout jar that I bought in the 70s and has, miraculously, managed to stay intact (despite being glass) through more moves than I can count. We still have haze but it's getting better. Sunshine and low 90s. The lake looks like 4th of July weekend.

Karen, glad you liked the song and I agree on the comparison. I have that Til Tuesday album in my collection and a newer one by Aimee Mann. I've always liked Aimee's voice. What location and time period are you looking for in the Catholic records? The ones I was referring to were Irish, but there are a lot of others out there. It's been sunny and dry today. I'm surprised it's not hotter, but it's been staying in the upper 80s. They think we'll get rain from that system on Sunday and Monday, but it depends where it decides to go. It's not expected to form into anything stronger than a tropical depression.
Hope everyone is having a good Saturday!

Just a quick check in for now.
Karen The phone was not repairable since it was dead. Apple Care would have sent me another XR in 2 weeks. From what I read online the XR wasn't the best IPhone made. Another customer said his wife had the same problem and they kept sending her refurbished phones and ended up sending her 6 different ones before they finally upgraded her. I decided to go ahead and buy an IPhone 11. It's the same size as the XR and it seems to be a good phone. It's just a pain downloading apps again. I am going to start being envious of your cucumbers. I don't have very many left. That's okay though. I'll do it again next spring. We can plant once the ground gets warm at night and that's normally after Easter.
Be back tomorrow ladies and have a good evening.

Linda, I was streaming the song, but here's the link on YouTube. It's a bit of a different direction than her folk group, more of a mellow pop song. Please don't send those clowns back to Florida! Maybe we could put them on a DeSantis cruise. Preferably along with DeSantis. Let them all breathe on each other!

Linda, glad you liked the song. I know the clowns came from FL, but we don't want them back! I hate to think what FL would be doing if Biden had won here. I'm sure it would be similar to AZ.

Kathy, your cousinās daughter has what I call an ethereal voice which I really like. I wish her luck. Music careers are not easy.
When you and Linda talk about the clowns all I hear in my head is Judy Collins singing āSend in the clowns. Donāt bother, theyāre here.ā She and Linda Rondstadt are two of my favorites from my youth.
Becky, I like the iPhone 11. I bought mine from the Apple store and they transferred all my data including downloaded apps to my new phone. Glad I didnāt have to do it myself. I have a lot of apps.
Linda, I hope you donāt have the massive downpours again. How do the sewers handle all that water at one time?
Karen, have your eyes recovered from the walk? My eyes are a little dry today but nit like earlier this week. We had a massive thunderstorm and light show last night. It rained buckets and smashed down a large tomato plant. We lost two of that plantās large tomatoes that we have been waiting anxiously to ripen. Is Dale excited about a new mower? The weed whacker died this year and Iggy practically skipped to the local garden equipment store. More power! Arrgh!
Itās been a lazy day here watching the Olympics so nothing to report. Have a good evening.

Kathy, I would need Austrian records from the 19th Century. Some of my maternal ancestors were from Freiwaldau, Silesia, Austria and I have a lot of the records from the time they came to the US. Do you think your cousin's daughter will change her style if this song becomes successful? Are you getting more rain from the meandering little disturbance? It looks like it's just off your coast now.
Sorry about your phone, Becky. Will you have more functionalty with the 11? I hope it will last a lot longer than your XR did. Refurbished doesn't seem the way to go. I guess you're already planning your garden for next year.
Chele, sorry about the tomato plants. They aren't salvagable? Our skies are cloudy and we might get rain tomorrow. Dale doesn't get particularly excited about yard work, so I don't think he's anywhere nears as excited as Iggy was about a new weed whacker. The eyes finally quit itching and our skies are clearing a bit. We still have some haze however. I would guess all that rain you had cleared yours out.
I'm planning to go to TJs this week to stock up on frozen veggies, Linda, since Publix doesn't seem to be putting theirs on sale right now. Anything special I need to look for? Are you still gettin rain? For some reason, some of my ancestors added an extra "n" in their last name. Given WW1, I wonder if it as their way of distancing themselves from the Germans. Other than the additional "n" it was pronounced exactly as you indicated. I took 2 years of French in HS but that was the extent of my foreign languages.
I finally pulled the garlic out that I planted last November. I probably should have pulled it a couple of weeks ago, but it's hanging over the garage curing for the next month. I think I will container plant later this year. I had to pull out some Johnson grass to get it out of the plot and, despite being in long sleeves, I must have come in contact with it because my arm started itching and I had 3 nickle-sized welts that have coalesced into a 2 x 3 red patch that I have been treating with Benadryl cream, but it's still itching like crazy. I think I need to try icing it to see if that will decrease the itching. It would probably help to get in the lake tomorrow, but with 72% chance of rain, that might not be an option.

Chele, that's a good word for her voice. I liked the vocal layering in the song. Music careers are definitely hard. She has a theater degree and has taught in elementary school, so she could always return to that if she can't make a living with the music. I liked Judy Collins and Linda Ronstadt too. Lol on send in the clowns. If the song fits... š¤”š¤”š¤” Glad your eyes are improved. Sorry about the lost tomatoes! Did Iggy get the weed whacker of his dreams? It was dry here again, but it keeps looking like it will rain. They're saying we'll have a higher chance of rain tomorrow thanks to that low off of the coast.
I'm planning on watching the Olympics tonight. Hope everyone has a nice evening.

Karen, I didn't see your post. I haven't looked for Austrian records, but I'll see what's available. The Germans kept meticulous church records going back for centuries, so maybe the Austrians were similar. I'm curious to see how the rest of Carolyn's album sounds. I don't know if she'll move away from the folk music or not. One of her local radio stations played the song, so that was exciting.
There is dry air on this side of the disturbance, so we didn't get any rain so far. It's supposed to drag moisture across the state tomorrow. Hope the reaction to the Johnson grass clears up quickly.

Karen, on the name spellings, they varied a lot and could be inconsistent even in the same family. It does make things more difficult when searching for names. They could also get recorded incorrectly in the records. One of mine started out with an "an" spelling in early records and the same person started using "en" while some of his brothers used "on".

Karen, it looks like FamilySearch and Ancestry both have some Austrian Catholic parish records from the 1600s to 1930s, but they're not all searchable.
MyHeritage is another genealogy site and they've just released a large set of Austrian Catholic records:

Chele I really do like the IPhone 11. Unfortunately the closest Apple store is in Austin and all we have here is an AT&T store and we don't get their service out here. In Bastrop there is only AT&T, Verizon and Best Buy. I normally get my phones at Best Buy. They called Verizon who I have a prepaid contract with that renews monthly. They couldn't even transfer over my phone number because the XR was dead so they couldn't transfer any apps.
Karen the 11 is a better phone. It seems to charge faster. No I'm not planning next year's garden yet. Whenever I think I'm missing the garden I just remember how hot it is. I hate Johnson grass.
Linda The ants aren't as bad. Fire ants mostly come after rain and we are back to being dry. I still have sores on my ankles. They seem to be worse when I wear socks and I guess it's from sweat.
