If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

New Challenge!
Labor of Love, July 7 - September 4
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes âhow can you love someone else if you canât love yourselfâ.
There are many ways we donât show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over âwhy did I drink too muchâ and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierâ. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start forgive yourself, or tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnât here, so letâs deal with the present.
So why is it so hard? The mind set "I messed up today so might as well just finish the bottle or finish the bag of chipsâ has to be changed.
The purpose of this eight week challenge is to discover the reasons behind our drinking and do the hard work it takes to change the behavior. It is a journey of self discovery that you may or may not want to share. This can be painful, this can be bring up old memories, this can be too difficult to tackle. The reasons are so varied. But remember this is a safe place to vent and share and if you are not comfortable sharing here, feel free to use our private FB site (by invitation request).
So does anyone think that alcohol is your friend? Anyone think that the next morning just looks so much better after a night of drinking? Does drinking bring you serenity? So why do we drink?
Some people can have an easy time of giving it up but for most, it just isn't that easy. Many of us start off great and then hit the wall at 10 days. Have you tried to journal your feelings as each day progresses and see what happens when you hit that wall?
"I will let the serene moments wash over me. I will cherish them. They soften me. And the blows of today's tumultuous storm will be lessened."

DH, DS, & I walked the nature trail, then had sausage patties, scrambled eggs, coffee cake, and fresh fruit for breakfast. DS went home, I washed and filled the hummingbird feeders, then settled on the couch to watch the Olympics. DH & I made a pasta recipe for dinner that had butternut squash, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, and other yummy things. It was delicious, but made a LOT. DD at least tasted it. More Olympics after dinner. I did make a lot of progress on the current Santa though.
Mostly hot and sunny here yesterday, though we did get a shower in the afternoon, enough that we didn't need to water the garden. The garden is slowing down, we still have a few tomatoes to ripen, a couple of cucumbers, and a few sweet peppers.
Today is starting out sunny, need to get out and walk before it gets much hotter.
Cathy- Glad you were able to check in. GL with the electricity.
Carole- WTG for only one drink on Friday, glad the band party was fun. Yay for nothing to do today!
GG- Yay for being down 4# already and being able to walk and gravel and grass without pain.
Cindy- WTG having leftovers. Enjoy your pasta salad.
Murphy- Please check in!

Situation about the same here. Trying to keep devices charged and ready for the cuts. Might have to invest in some sort of backup if things don't improve. It is good we are NOT on the beach as it is hotter and more humid there and we get a breeze most afternoons on our hilltop.
Staying OP and positive. No alcohol (one bottle being saved for my daughter) to drink so no temptations.

From WW site
Want to make your journey easier? Focus on Three Good Things
Try this!
Get into the habit of calling out Three Good Things going on in your world. (Even the little things count!)
Letâs dive a little deeper...
When life doesnât go as planned, itâs easyânormal, evenâto focus on the bumps in the road, rather than the sun in the sky.
What does that have to do with weight loss?
The science shows that being grateful can make you happier, which means youâre more likely to make healthier choices.
And that can make your weight-loss and wellness journey a whole lot easier.
By identifying positive things that happened to you, it can quickly add joy to your day. This shifts your perspective to be more happy, hopeful, and grateful. The things you pick can be small (finding a new favorite ZeroPoint⢠snack) or more significant (you got to catch up with an old friend). What really matters is that they make you feel good!
We recommend practicing Three Good Things throughout your week. The more intentionally you call out the good things, the more it becomes a habit. And that can help you keep the big picture in mind, no matter how many hurdles you face.

July 28: August 4: August 11: August 18: August 25: September 1: Final Weigh In/September 4: Good morning! DH is still in the hospital, not sure if I mentioned they put him in a private room which is good since he has so much paraphernalia attached to him. He has a really large reclining chair which he seems very comfortable in. He actually sleeps more in his recliner than his bed at home. Yesterday I visited him and shave I don't know how many days of stubble he had. He looked less like a caveman after I finished, lol. So far so good, the clip/clamp/staple whatever you call it seems like it is is holding in place and the drainage is lessening and a way better color. Monday will be 14 days, and they will be keeping him for at least a week to a week and a half more, who would have thought, jeesh. I think DD and DSIL will be visiting him today and they will bring Isabel her for me to watch her. At least I get one day to stay in my own home. Will try to get a little knitting in before my little princess arrives. Amy~ Yay for the Black Eyed Susan jumping into your cart, lol GG~ Woohoo for the weight loss, and so happy you are walking with no/less pain! Carole~ Yay for you staying AF and you deserved that Dairy Queen! So happy that you had such fun! Cindy~ I am so sorry that your nephew is suffering so. It is too bad that the surgery isn't scheduled sooner since he had to make a few trips to the ER because of his breathing problems. How is DS doing with the job search, any luck? Waving hello to Murphy, Jan and Cathy! Need to get a second cup of coffee, enjoy your Sunday!

Hi girls. Not much going on. I got on the scale again to make sure yesterday wasnât a fluke, and it wasnât! It was the same! đ Tonight weâre having pork with roasted sweet potatoes, beets, and squash along with sweet corn from our garden. Yum! And DH is doing all the cutting of the veggies! đ I played the piano again today. Itâs really hard to sit on the hard piano bench. If I sit too long on the kitchen wooden tables I feel it too. Deep within. I still have a month before I play again in church, so I should be good.
Cindy: I donât do well with heat. I took Birdie for a walk in the yard. It was so humid and hot I had DH ride me back on the gator. I am out of shape! I need to remember babysteps work!
Carole: Yay! You did great!
Amy: I shared the 3 gratitude idea with a friend yesterday. She was just unhappy with life. She wrote them down and was going to look for things during the day.we take so much for granted!
Cathy: Iâm glad you checked in. Do people have generators over there?
Liz: Iâm glad to hear the good report on DH! Iâm sure he felt better clean shaven! Had you done it before? I would be afraid of cutting him!

Electricity situation is still iffy. Internet is less reliable. It is hot and humid. The lira against the dollar is fluctuating wildly. Talked to our son and his family using G3 instead of the wifi from the house. I should be working on something for my husband but he has disappeared and it requires internet/electricity so won't be working on it till he is ready. I will read instead.
There are generators that individuals have. We had one long ago and a few other alternatives over the year. Most rely on local providers to pick up the slack when the government doesn't provide service. It is expensive, noisy and messy to have one's own generator. We talked about wind or solar but were told that it was against the law and our guess is that those options would cut into the money being made by the politicians so...make it illegal to let people have it.
