Jan, thanks for a great week & the great ideas & recipes. Those hot dogs look great.
Look up beyond the clouds & you will see the sun & the stars.
Here are 5 little wellness moves that we can all do almost every day:
1. Carry a water bottle. Signs that you need more water include fatigue, dark pee, & sugar cravings. Your body needs an adequate amount of fluids to perform at it's best. 2. Save your eyes with exercise. Recent studies have proven that regular exercise can ward off age-related macular degeneration & other vision related problems. 3. Build muscles with veggies. People who consume a lot of nitrates (found in leafy green vegetables like spinach, kale, & lettuce), have stronger leg muscles than those who eat very few nitrates. 4. Be a peacemaker. The old argument that you shouldn't let the sun set on a disagreement, may have had some merit. Studies have shown that people who got into an argument & felt that they had resolved it, had less than half of the stress response than those who didn't settle the disagreement. They also felt no lingering effects the following day. 5. Monitor your blood pressure. Hypertension is linked to higher risk of heart problems & stroke, but women's risk might go up at a lower BP than men's. So, it is very important that women keep their blood pressure monitored often.
Any thoughts or ideas about these things? They all seem simple enough to do.

Doing better at drinking water specifically. Still do drink diet pop, keep on working to drink more water, less pop.
Exercise is good for everything - I'm making progress there as well.
My first thought when I read this was that the Popeye was right - eat more spinach! I don't dis-like leafy greens, but don't tend to include them. But, my goal this challenge has been to work for more variety. I bought a package of spring mix greens (does include spinach) for this week.
I'd heard the sayings about not going to bed angry, etc, but interesting that it's been studied. As long as it's being resolved fairly, no reason not to to resolve disagreements if possible.
blood pressure - another thought - my DH was monitoring blood pressure at home at one time. They had him bring in the monitor we had to the doctor to check it against their reading, to make sure it was accurate enough. (that was awhile ago - home units may be better quality now)
Shoes - probably around 15? I guess that's another impact of wearing a uniform for work...didn't need different shoes to match different outfits. On a regular basis - I wear about 5 of them.

I am currently monitoring my blood pressure daily and a couple times daily moost of the time because I am gradually lowering my blood pressure medication. After losing weight I was feeling light headed, checked it and it was down around 100/50 and knew it was too low. With gasoline a problem, roads being closed, and a good medical background, we bought a new blood pressure cuff and I am down to half my previous dose of meds and still measuring in below 120/80FUN: About how many pairs of shoes do you have in your closet right now? More than I need but not the variety that I need.
5 pair of flip-flops 1 slip on plastic too-big navy men's sandals 1 pair of tennis-walking shoes 3 pair of flats to wear with pants 3 pair of nicer sandals but not "pretty"
2 pair of walking sandals 1 pair of wedge neutral sandals 1 pair of brown pumps 1 pair of leopard print flats that someone gave me 2 faux ugg boots that are so hard they need to be tossed 1 real but faded black lined Ugg boots 1 pair of navy clogs...think t hat is it
22 pair of shoes BUT not much to wear with nice things...not that I am getting dressed up at the moment

I have dedicated myself to be as healthy as possible. This includes drinking more water & no soda. Though I admit, I still have a diet soda once in a while. I also love my coffee & refuse to give that up.
My blood pressure was up at my last dr's visit. He thought & so did I, it was a result of a steroid shot that I had had a week prior. I am on one blood pressure med now, as opposed to 4 that I was on 50 lbs ago. Dr says he won't change what I am taking now until at least my next visit when the steroids have had plenty of time to get out of my system.
As for going to bed angry, I seldom get really mad at anyone. It really takes a lot to make me mad. I do get mad at DH once in a while. I often just get agitated, but not really angry. My late BIL used to say that if he & his wife had a disagreement about something, they would always settle it before bedtime because he said "Who wants to go to bed with a mad woman?". Pretty good advise I guess.
Cathy, I am amazed that you know exactly how many pairs of shoes that you have & which styles. I have shoes strewn in 3 different closets. Some of them are in a shoe holder, some are in a basket in the bottom of a closet, some are just strewn around of the closet floors. I probably have 40 or more pairs. Some of them I haven't worn in a long time. I know that I have 3 or 4 pairs of heels, Every time I put on a pair, I end up taking them off before I leave the house, just can't wear them anymore, should put them in the donation basket.

I don't carry a water bottle, but I'm usually where I have easy access to water. Sometimes if I'm working outside in the garden I'll bring one out there.
I haven't monitored my blood pressure for a long time, but with the meds I'm on it has stayed pretty steady and in the right range.
Exercise is something I'm still working on and it still hasn't become a habit.
I don't eat a lot of leafy green veggies. I'm on a blood thinner and the leafy greens interact unfavorably with it. I eat a moderate amount and don't overdo them. Keeping it steady keeps from having to adjust the medication.
I don't have anyone to argue with so I have no problems there. D)
As far as shoes, I have about 20 pair, including the winter boots I keep in the basement until winter comes. Many of them I don't hardly ever wear. I have two pairs of Keen shoes I wear a lot with jeans, I have a pair of running shoes that I interchange with the Keens, I have a pair of slide in sandals I wear outside in the summer and a pair of slip on shoes that I wear when going outside to the garden or whatever I'm doing in the yard. Most of the time in the house I just wear socks or go barefoot. I also have a pair of work boots that I'll wear if I'm doing heavy work in the yard such as digging up flower beds etc.

I am able to have a water bottle with me at work and drink 2 - 32oz bottles a day. It is easier in the summer when it is warm.
I never heard of exercising your eyes. Will have to look that one up.
Noone to argue with, so don't go to bed angry.
When I have my blood pressure taken, it is usually the national average. My cat, however, was diagnosed with high blood pressure and takes 1/2 of a tiny itty bitty pill.
I have too many shoes, especially since I can only wear black athletic shoes to work. I don't wear heels anymore and definitely could thin out the piles of shoes. When I am not at work, I mostly wear tennis shoes in bright colors. Probably 25 pairs, wear about 10.
