Look ahead with hope.
1. Over time, I think we have talked about almost every tip there is for healthier living, but I ran across these tips for better sleeping, something that I have a world of trouble with.
2. Sleep better. When you get enough sleep your body is more able to keep inflammation in check. In the heart, this helps prevent blood vessel damage, reduction of blood flow and blood clots. Sleep is critical to good brain function, muscle building hormones are banked while you snooze.
3. Be Consistent. Try your best to maintain the same sleep schedule seven days a week. Sleeping erratically messes with our internal body clock & trigger inflammation.
4. Make your bedroom a sleep haven. Try shades or blackout curtains to eliminate disruptive light. Use earplugs or white noise machine to drown out the sounds . Consider setting your thermostat a bit lower. Experts say that a cooler bedroom promotes the best sleep.
5. Try a relaxing tea. Chamomile tea may help you relax and nod off, figs, pistachios, almonds, or cherries may also help.
Ever try any of these? does it help?
FUN: We talked about thrift stores, what's the biggest "find" you have ever made at a thrift store or yard sale? Have you ever had a yard sale of your own?

Can't remember yard sale buys or having one. I know I must have gone to one but??? As for thrift stores...maybe a cobalt blue pressed glass oval bowl that is beautiful but something I have no idea what to use it for!

I'm grateful that, the vast majority of the time, I fall asleep easily & sleep well.
That said, I don't always follow a good schedule. I might sometimes stay up later at night...still get up at the same time, but know that I can nap if I need to.
Thrift stores/garage sales: I haven't had a garage sale totally on my own, but did with a group of friends/acquaintances a couple of times...that was at least 25 years ago. At the thrift store - mainly just fun finds, nothing really big or valuable. A couple that were fun to find - I have a 1966 Weight Watchers cookbook & and vintage children's pull toy that resembles the breed of two of our dogs. I look for craft supplies, books, jigsaw puzzles, towels to use for the dogs. Used to shop to find things for theme days at work - like a team logo shirt for "sports day" or something like that.

I have a hard time with sleep too. Sometimes it is hit or miss. I don't have blackout curtains or shades, but I have a sleep mask that I put over my eyes. I have a clock on my dresser that has blue numbers that are too bright so curtains or shades wouldn't help with that. When I wake up at night I do like to see what time it is sometimes.
I've never had a yard sale, but I've helped a friend with one occasionally. The best find was a tall fold up stool with a back that I used when I did craft sales. It put me up high enough to survey my surroundings and I could just slide off of it when I had a customer instead of having to get up out of a chair. I've found lots of useful odds and ends at yard sales including cheap clothes when I was losing weight.

I have always said that my weight & my sleep habits have done more to shape my life than anything else. I was hoping that it would get better when I got older, but not so. I have tried most every thing & it seems that the more that I think about it, the worse it gets.
I have had a few yard sales. My late friend loved them, she had one every year. I have helped her quite often. Since she has been gone, I haven't had one, but I did help my SIL with one after she moved here from NY a few years ago. Now, I just take my stuff to the local Help Center. One of the best finds that I made was one of those baby gates, that you put across the door to keep the baby out. I paid $1 for it & I used it to keep my dog out of the kitchen while the kitchen was being re-modeled. It worked great! Also, I have a black t-shirt that is one of the most comfortable garments that I own. I think I paid 50 cents for it. My friend & I oven visit thrift stores.

First, let me tell you about something my DM found once, and I think she may have told me it was at a thrift store. I remember she told me she paid half a dollar for it, and I don't know whether she meant fifty cents at the time she bought it or the equivalent of fifty cents in the days in which she was telling me she found it. Anyway, it a pendant in a shape not quite like a heart and it's three dimensional, like a puffy not-exactly-heart, with some small sort of tassels hanging down. She wore it a lot, and gave it to me before she died (or maybe it became mine after she died). I too wear it a lot (or did before Covid when I was actually going places outside of the house). It's not sterling silver although it could pass for very slightly tarnished sterling silver; it's not shiny but still it looks like it's real silver. I still got compliments on it the last times I wore it.
About my finding things: I'd have to go through my closet to tell you which items of clothing I've bought at thrift stores, but off the top of my head, I can tell you I found some cotton long-sleeved blouses (with buttons down the front) that I wore more than many of the ones I'd bought new. They're all still in my closet; it's summer and I wear almost exclusively t-shirts and shorts in this weather. But I was wearing them a few months ago!
Sleep. I go to bed around the same time every night and I wake up around the same time every morning most of the time. Every now and then I wake up around 3ish and can't get back to sleep within about 30 minutes, so I get up and either watch TV downstairs in the living room, or else turn on the computer and get some work done. Not every single time this happens but more often than not when it does, I get in a nap in the afternoon.
I go to bed earlier than DH and he claims he needs light to see, so I turn on the lamp on his side of the bed; alas, black-out curtains do zilch against lamps that are on inside the room... So I sleep on my side with my back toward his side of the bed. I fall asleep almost the same as if the room is completely dark.
