Yuk, Linda. Micki knew it was coming. Too bad he couldnāt talk.
Iggy and I went to Samās Club to stock up on paper goods and bottled water. There was plenty of both. We wore our masks since the CDC recommended that even vaccinated wear masks in areas of substantial and high transmissions. Our county is at the substantial level. All of the employees were wearing a mask but we were the only customers masked up. No surprise there. We got a weird look from one guy, Iggy said. I didnāt see it.
Karen, did you watch any of the Olympics rowing or cycling today? It was time trials for the women and menās cycling. The cukes have flowered but so far no fruit just like the eggplants. š
Liz, I am glad Zoe is doing better. Cute pic of the puppies. Wow on the 21k steps. I would be hurting. Thatās good news no infections in your bloodwork. Good luck with the rest of your survey and congrats on the hospital rating. Allergies have been killer this summer. Canāt wait for ragweed seasonš
Becky, poor Kenneth. Mowers are really hard to push without assistance. I canāt do it. Sorry to hear about friendās DDIL and the fundraiser. Back to the masks. ā¹ļø
Kathy, it seems like we are never getting over this as long as people resist the vaccine. The sheer stupidity is overwhelming. Kevin McCarthy is saying the science doesnāt back masks. Pelosi said āThat man is an idiot.ā I havenāt watched any of the Jan 6 commission hearing because I know I will be enraged. Just from what Iāve read I want to tear my hair out.
Any rain today for anyone? We are still hot and humid but no rain since Sunday. We may get thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. I hope so.

Thanks for the start, Chele. I've been meaning to ask how DSIL's hydrangea fared? Have things leveled off weatherwise there? How are your plants doing? My San Marzano tomato bushes are full of great looking green tomatoes waiting to ripen. I'm going to be making a lot of spaghetti sauce. Our entire state is under a "high" rate of transmission. I think I saw that your state is in the moderate category, so you're doing much better than we are. Just about every county in East Tennessee is considered a hot spot. Granted, we aren't Florida (sorry, Kathy) or Arkansas, but it's not good here (again!). I'm with you on stupid people and the vaccine. People are just in denial and don't want anyone to tell them their beliefs are flawed. How many more will die for their devotion to idiot politicians and right wing media? Linda, that was an extremely sobering article. Once again it's looking like we are not as protected as we thought. Not good news! That dust storm looks nasty. It even made our local news. Did you see the one in NW China? www.scmp.com/video/environment/3142489/wall-dust-envelops-ancient-city-dunhuang-northwestern-china . We also have one of those Republican governors, and Trump carried 2/3 of the state in November so I guess that's his excuse. Dale and I said again this morning that we are on our own. In the meantime, you are correct that covid is killing off the base. I did watch part of the 1/6 Special Commission coverage and some of the new video was brutal. Peaceful protest/just a normal tour of the buildingš¤¬. The sad thing is that some people have heard it enough that they believe it. Trump actually said that if you keep saying something, people will eventually believe it. And he was absolutely correct. So many people are just not critical thinkers. I think you're right about the love part. We have over 2,000 new cases here and the positivity rate is almost 15%. Masks for me tomorrow. Amazing how intuitive animals can be. Micki sensed there was something he didn't like before your walk attempt. Nasty grit. Did you have to take a shower to get it out of your hair and off your body? We are still dealing with smoke but it's better than it was a couple of days ago, but is supposed to be back by the end of the week. You're right that the unvaccinated have no intention of protecting the rest of us, Becky. Congrats on getting the new phone all set up and the billing changed over. How was last night's jewelry party? Did you see any new things? Enjoy your spa samples. A friend from here recently moved to Idaho, too. Must be a happening place. How's your heat? We are shooting for 10 degrees above normal today. Could get to 97 and that doesn't take the heat index into account. But the record is 102. Glad we aren't supposed to get there. Kathy, Publix still doesn't have Greenwise veggies on sale this week. They do have the Greenwise fruit, however. I plan to venture into making non-dairy "ice cream" for the MG ice cream social in a few weeks. Are you close to a TJ's? Even if it's 1/2 hour or so away, it might be another option for frozen veggies. They have a good selection and many of them are organic. And the prices are pretty good. Are we going to be hotter than you? You probably have a better shot of getting a shower. I think we are at 10% on that. What are you hearing on the US News and World Report rankings, Liz? I looked at the full profile and it looks like many of your disciplines are Top 5. So will they just be pushing to improve those that fell below a certain threshold? I saw that Gov. Cuomo is mandating vaccines or weekly testing for state employees. Our governor is once again passing the buck down to the county mayors, most of whom will do nothing. So most of the people who live around here will remain maskless, along with most of the tourists. I wonder how many Tennessee mutations of the virus we'll end up with. Busy day here. I made a loaf of bread in the Zo, cooked ground turkey and oats in the IP for Arya, and have a batch of peanut butter baked tofu marinating to go into the oven before dinner. With it being so hot, most of the plants will need a second watering even though I gave them extra water this morning. Fortunately, I have soaker hoses for most of them.

Chele, I'm not surprised most people weren't wearing masks. I still don't get why it would annoy someone because you wore a mask. I guess there are a lot of people out there that are both obnoxious and stupid! I saw that Miami-Dade's mayor is requiring masks for all county facilities. Our mayor just declared a state of emergency for the county and is also mandating masks in county facilities. They're recommending them for other indoor places, but can't require them thanks to DeSantis. We just had the most infections reported in a single day yesterday. I watched a little bit of the hearings and it did make me enraged. I don't recommend it if you want to relax. It's been storming all afternoon and it's only 81 right now. Karen, I'm sure both of our areas are affected by all the tourists and everything is wide open now with no mask requirements at the theme parks. The state stopped releasing the specific data by zip code so there's no way for me to tell which areas are really bad. I just have to assume it all is. Did you get up to 97? I'm not sure if we even got to 90 today thanks to the storms. Linda, wow on the dust storm. Glad you weren't too far from home.
Liz, DN's internship will be ending soon and he'll be back at school next month. Family is doing fine, but still laying pretty low thanks to the latest surge here. DBIL is about to go to Michigan to go on a camping trip with his father. We haven't stopped wearing masks indoors and there are still a lot of people that do. Of course, it's most likely the unmasked people that are also unvaccinated, so it's not as much protection as I'd like. I hope they weren't too unhappy with the survey numbers. They sounded good to me, especially #1 in NYC!
Becky, I agree it's time for the unvaccinated to do their part, but I know it won't happen either. I like my iPhone 11. Hope you have good luck with yours. The spa and sparkles party sounds like fun.
