If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

Labor of Love, July 7 - September 4
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes âhow can you love someone else if you canât love yourselfâ.
There are many ways we donât show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over âwhy did I drink too muchâ and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierâ. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start forgive yourself, or tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnât here, so letâs deal with the present.
So why is it so hard? The mind set "I messed up today so might as well just finish the bottle or finish the bag of chipsâ has to be changed.
The purpose of this eight week challenge is to discover the reasons behind our drinking and do the hard work it takes to change the behavior. It is a journey of self discovery that you may or may not want to share. This can be painful, this can be bring up old memories, this can be too difficult to tackle. The reasons are so varied. But remember this is a safe place to vent and share and if you are not comfortable sharing here, feel free to use our private FB site (by invitation request).
So does anyone think that alcohol is your friend? Anyone think that the next morning just looks so much better after a night of drinking? Does drinking bring you serenity? So why do we drink?
Some people can have an easy time of giving it up but for most, it just isn't that easy. Many of us start off great and then hit the wall at 10 days. Have you tried to journal your feelings as each day progresses and see what happens when you hit that wall?
"I will let the serene moments wash over me. I will cherish them. They soften me. And the blows of today's tumultuous storm will be lessened."

Congratulations!
Good morning. Didn't sleep well last night. I woke up at 2:00 and got up for a couple hours, then went back to bed for a couple of hours but didn't go back to sleep. Oh well, a bad night's sleep isn't such a big deal when you don't have to go to work. I have a few little chores around the house and am going to get my nails done at noon. Then will have choir practice tonight. Just wanted to check in and get us started. I'll be back later. Murphy

It didn't seem quite as hot at the lake yesterday. We stopped at Walmart on the way home, went through the garden center with blinders on to avoid buying more plants. When we got home, I planted more seeds in pots and in egg cartons. Fingers crossed they sprout and grow. Cleaned the bird feeders for the song birds, needed to soak them, so they're still down. Did a little bit of stuff for work, a load of laundry, ran the vacuum. DH got his first Shingrix shot, need to get mine done as well. I wound like to have it out of the way before it's time for the flu vaccine and possibly a Covid booster in the fall. It's distressing, but not surprising that the CDC is recommending masks for everyone indoors again. I wonder if Covid will ever go away?
We got some clouds and heard thunder in the afternoon yesterday, but no rain. It's cloudy this morning, but rain is unlikely for the next few days.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Yay for your new patio rug and haircut! Sorry about "esweating" and not sleeping well. The seeds I planted should get plenty of light on the porch.
Liz- It's good that you are taking care of yourself first so that you can care for others. How long is the drive into Boston?
Jan- Yay for being home again. Glad you had fun with your cousins and friends. Enjoy having your brother and SIL. My mom used to enter projects in the county fair, and even the state fair once.
Carole- Yay for the day off & your watch motivating you to move. So sorry DF's daughter is in the hospital, hope those twins stay in as long as possible. At the risk of offending you, I think everyone that can get vaccinated should, but I respect your right to decide that for yourself. The lady at work is certainly out of line.
GG- Sorry you are sore after PT and the hard landing on the toilet.
Cindy- Baby steps towards vim AND vigor!
Cathy- WTG for your stretch of AF days, hope you have a pleasant afternoon with your new friends.

Good morning!
So, everything that I wanted to get done yesterday did not get done. I went to DD's but just had to leave after she had her zoom meeting. I can't remember the last time I had felt so physically fatigued. I have been sleeping ok, waking up a little early but also going to bed earlier. I came home and just got on the recliner and rested. I never could take naps and yesterday was no exception so I just vegged out and watched the entire 7 episodes of Mare of Easttown on HBO. I woke up at 5:30 this morning and stayed in bed until about 6:15 then just got up. DD told me not to come today, she only has one zoom meeting and is going to wing it, hopefully Isabel will cooperate, lol. Since I didn't make it in to Boston to visit DH, I definitely will visit today and then pick up a few things at the market. Still tired so will come home after that and just rest. I am thinking it might be emotional fatigue causing the physical exhaustion.
Carole~ That was awful what that person said to you! I cannot believe how divided this country has become and so hateful. My kids choose not to be vaccinated either, and that is their prerogative, but I am urging them to please wear a mask when shopping or in indoor venues.
Murphy~ Yay for getting the new patio carpet. I got a kick out Kim's expression!
Amy~ Seems like quite a few of us needs rest. I was wondering if the fires from California have anything to do with it. The day before yesterday, there was such a smoky haze in the air that I actually thought that there was a large fire near us. The air quality was off the charts.
Cindy~ I am so sorry about your nephew, I will keep him in my prayers. Sorry that the job search for DS has been discouraging, hopefully it will turn around soon. No retirement as of yet, I am trying to deplete my sick time while on workers' comp and in doing so I am accruing service time which will allow me to retire at a higher percentage. I am sure the insurance company will try to stop the workers' comp at some point, but I know that won't be an issue since my surgeon is the chief of orthopedic surgery at a very reputable hospital and will explain to them that my injury prevents repetitive movement with my wrist and arm. Also, even if I do decide to have the surgery to remove the hardware, there is only a 50% chance that it will improve the pain in my elbow and arm. In any event, my sick time will be depleted around March 2022, and I will formally retire on my anniversary date which is April 18th. I will have 24 years in and go out at 60% of the average of my best 36 months of gross salary.
GG~ Glad you are starting to get around even though you are really sore from it. But just getting behind that steering wheel again would give me a sense of independence and that is a great feeling, yay for you!
Cathy~ All of a sudden that scale will move and you will be in the next decade!
Jan~ Glad you got to enjoy time with family and friends at the cabin. You'll be BOT in no time, I have faith in you!
Need to get a second cup of coffee and maybe knit a little.

Amy - sounds like seeds will stand a fighting chance! I just dod a little work in the garage and I was "esweating" again! Even with two fans going out there, I thought I would pass out!
Carole - that is crazy that your co-worker went off like that. Is there a reason that you haven't had the vaccine? That's really personal and if you don't want to answer I totally get it. It is a very personal decision I know! I think everyone has the right to make the right decision for them! I don't think we are through with Covid by any means and I don't know that I will sign up for a booster. I want to get more info about the variants that are occurring. Now that I'm retired, it would be much easier for me to really limit contact with others.
Liz - I am glad you have the day off from babysitting today. Although I know you won't get much rest going to the hospital. Any word on when DH might get discharged?
I know you have all probably heard about the CDC's new recommendation that many of us go back to wearing masks indoors. Knox Co falls into that category. Certainly not something I look forward to and it makes me start preparing to stock up on groceries again so I don't need to make any unnecessary trips out. I even pulled my dehydrator out and have a list of things I want to try. I've actually got some banana slices in there right now. Don't know how they will turn out but it sure smells good! LOL. Need to fix my makeup that I sweated off so I'll be ready to go get my nails done. Everyone have a good rest of your day! Murphy

Good morning girls! Well, week 1 of Golo is done. I am down 3.6 and DH stayed the same. DH was happy for me but did the no matter how hard I try I canât lose weight moan. So of course we had to talk about what he ate and drank that was off plan. My suggestion was to try to change 1 thing this week and see what happens. Weâll see! I am happy and will continue. I did track everything as best I could and I used all of my weeklies but 6. Most of my points were spent on olive oil and cheese. I go tot he dr in September so I will have bloodwork done then. Iâm eating 2 eggs most mornings, plus full fat cheese. I donât want to mess up my cholesterol. Today Iâm making granola to have with milk tomorrow as cereal. Iâm also making banana bars. They can be used as my carb at any meal. My carb at lunch will be cherries! Now when I eat my fruit I really enjoy it! My other goal for the day is to get my 250 steps per hour and to do my PT exercises. Plus I might put some padding on the piano bench and play a bit. Itâs so good to have time to just play for enjoyment.
Cindy: Glad some vim showed up. Hope vigor came today! Yesterday my only goal was to find a sympathy card and get it ready for the mail. Iâm finding smaller lists help me to at least do something! I also donât get down on myself for NOT going out in the heat. I just canât!
Cathy: Iâm glad you could check in. I hope you get to have your luncheon!
Murphy: Are you still playing your keyboard? Does your choir sing all summer or are you practicing for fall? Iâm afraid our choir is history. We lost our choir director, plus several of our older members have died over the last 18 months. We only had 20 or so members anyways, so it doesnât look good. đ
Amy: Did my check come yet? I guess the shingles shot is something Iâll get once Iâm on Medicare. I did receive my 2nd SS check today!
Liz: Iâm glad you listened to your body. Sometimes we just need to stop and rest! Iâm with you, our nation has gotten so divided and downright mean!! We all have our opinions. Heaven forbid if they donât agree!!
Hi to all that follow!

How will you love yourself today? Just take care of me, more water and more movement Move More Accountability 2 Just not getting my steps, part from travel, part from lazy and part from it's not comfortable to walk for long Sleep Accountability 3 Much better last night, not worrying about DH getting up for dentist, less crazy dreams Nutrition Accountability 3 Grilled tri tip, veggies, wine with dinner party, Journal Accountability 4 Catching up on my journal, will be glad to have my own quiet morning time back tomorrow Happiness Accountability 5 Glad to see family, also glad when everyone goes home Habit Accountability 3 Need to start tracking water and food again consistently Check in Daily Accountability 4 I'm here!!! Time Management Accountability 3 Not getting as much done as I think I should, but making a list helps. Labor of Loving yourself first! July 7: 195 July 14: 195.7 July 21: 195.2 July 28: August 4: August 11: August 18: August 25: September 1: Final Weigh In/September 4: Hi all. Getting a late start, went to breakfast with DB and DSIL, feel like all I'm doing is eating. and drinking. Yesterday DSIL's 2 girlfriends came by for a bit and before we knew it she had invited everyone over to our house for dinner. Of course asking right in front of the friends and then trying to back track...oh is that ok? was a bit awkward. DH wasn't thrilled but he had the excuse of disappearing upstairs shortly after a few snacks because his root canal was bugging him. Ended up the 2 girls and one husband. Of course 2 were vegetarians, all these crazy things, one lady asked if we could soak some brown rice all afternoon so her husband could cook it when he got here...WTF? Then he brought his own anyway. DH had grilled a tri tip, we had all these other special appetizers and things that DSIL made, then the wine, prosecco, just felt exhausting. Now everyone is gone and the quiet is fabulous We survived, I think my brother was a bit embarrassed, he hadn't met these people either and the one women was a bit....hmmmm....interesting. Oh well, another story to tell. Back to just eating better choices today, we have plenty of steak left over for burritos or something tonight with the huge mess of rice we now need to cook, ha ha. And now my sis comes Friday, we drive down to Ill. on Saturday for another big family party, my mom's favorite cousin's 100th birthday party. Then I'll be family overloaded and ready to head back up north. Debating and wondering what the mask situation will be at the party, at least it's outside. Don't want to come this far and then go to a super spreader!! Hope you all are having a lovely Hump Day and doing something you enjoy. Jan Amy Sounds like you had a busy day. I don't think Covid is going anywhere soon. But I'm glad for the most part the people vaccinated aren't having as bad a time with the new variant. Also if we go back to all masking again, the people who don't want the shot also won't want to wear a mask so how do you break the cycle? Just a hot topic right now. I'm looking forward to entering some things in the fair next year. Murphy Hope your nails turn out pretty, are you doing color or just french? I just think it's always a good idea to have some extra staples and paper goods in the house whether for snow, storm or pandemic! Let us know how your bananas turn out. GG Yay for the good loss on GOLO. Sorry to hear about your choir. I always feel good if I even get one or two things checked off my list, sounds like you're doing well with that. Liz Hope you can get to the hospital and the market but not wear yourself out. Sounds like you have a retirement plan, glad you had the sick days to use and still could accrue time. With your retirement do you still get Social Security? I hope your kids wear their masks when out still, hate for any of them to bring something home. Carole I'd say the lady at work was out of line, people are so emotional but there still needs to be a filter. Hope you didn't have to see her at pizza with your dad. Hi to all, will check back later.
