Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Cloudy/hazy, 68 degrees now, going to 85, with bad storms expected later, especially tonight and over night, with high winds, and possible tornadoes. The Weather Service is advising everyone to make sure their emergency kits are ready to go.
Marsha, that amount of rain in your rain gauge should bring our rain total for the year up to normal, even maybe a bit over. Now that I think of it, it is strange I did not hear of any amounts from all the rain we got the other day/night. If we get storms tonight, as predicted, I hope they are early in the evening, I hate those that are while we are sleeping! How did it work out for your DD, going back to Madison? I am so sorry for your Aunt. Have you gotten a hold of your Mother? I think with the treatment plan your DA has to have, I think you can assume the prognosis is probably depressing. Hopefully her care team can adjust how she is feeling with meds to offset all of the side affects, especially when her DD has to go back home. You wouldn't be thinking of going back out there for awhile to help her, are you?
Robin, about bra's, I have seen them priced even more than the $60 per bra I paid the other day. And these (according to the bra lady) last almost forever, with proper care. The main reason I bought them is for what they do for me. To put it bluntly, I could almost tuck the girls in my pants, and was tired of not finding anything out there that can bring them up. These bra's do that. I was amazed at how I looked afterwards. There is no shipping charge, just the tax. I am a bit surprised that you of all people, with how organized you are, do not have something set up for some kind of schedule, at your office. With having more than just family working there, people need that kind of organization.
Gareth, yes, rebooting the laptop usually helps, but that is another issue with it too lately. When I turn it on first thing in the morning, it just freezes up before the sign on screen comes up, so I have to turn it off and use the button to restart it. This machine is not that old so I have no idea what is going on. Now this morning it worked fine, just like it is supposed to. So who knows what is wrong, if it keeps happening, I will Google it, thanks. Are you all, there in Iowa included in our predicted bad weather later today? With those temps, it seems your conditions will be ripe for the storms.
Carol, that is so funny!!! I had not thought of that, about watermelon and the new size of bras, together like that, when I posted it!!! That did make some kind of sense, didn't it? Omg! Your kind of heat would be unbearable for me! Those would be days that I do not stick my nose outside. In fact most hot and humid days here, I do not go anywhere. I expect when you got to your vehicle to go home, the inside was stifling! Another reason for me to stay in. Is that heat/humidity supposed to hang around for awhile? How did your eye appointment go? Was a date set up?
Hi Anngie.
Looks like we will eventually all be back wearing the dreaded masks once again. I will have to try and remember where I stuck all of mine.
Another month that we have just about flown through! My goodness, before we know it, it will be fall, and then Halloween! I have a bad feeling, with how it's all going with the variant, about getting up north to see the fall colors.
Not much going on here, need to really focus on my workout; for some reason the scale is showing me up a pound which I have no clue as to why. Not having any sodium, measuring my food, tracking, and of course drinking a ton of water, so hopefully it is just something funky going on with my body. Then after my workout, I need to get my emergency kit out and see if it is up to date. I have no idea if it is.
Have a good day everyone.

Karen, I will have to go back and see what I wrote about organization in the office, not sure what you were referring to. I think that since our secretary left, which is almost 2 years now, we were less organized about certain things because I never got her replacement trained right, we spent so much on many things, but then I just had to do my own work we never figured out certain things, and then COVID hit, and we were just overwhelmed. We are working with 1 less employee, which is working out better financially, and I am not sure if we really need to hire someone else, or we can manage as is. It's a long story, but DH has tremendous knowledge, but loves to have another attorney do some of the things he can really do on his own, and should do. It's actually pretty complicated. And, with the Wacoal bras, that's exactly what they do, keep things held up better. Also, just so you know, when I worked with the high school students training them in breast self-exam, I learned something from the videos we showed, as women age, none of them are perky like Playboy models.
Carol, I didn't think of it, but definitely get the watermelon reference.
Marsha, I also hate cutting watermelon, or any melon really. I don't mind as much cutting the watermelon once it is already in quarters, even though I pay more for it per pound that way. Also, when one of the stores not too far from me changed to a different company, they sell cut up fruit much cheaper than some of the others, so when I get over there, I buy it that way, but that is not often enough. Be back later, have to get moving.

Just came in from my walk and taking a few minutes to cool off before hitting the shower. I'm dripping wet. It's only 77Âş but so humid. 99Âş later so I'm in now for the day where it's cool. Ragbrai the annual big bicycle ride across Ia comes through our city today where they have an overnight stop. I can't imagine bicycling in this weather. I think the majority of the riders look upon it as it being one big party from the stories I hear. They start out at the crack of dawn to get to their next destination so they can party the rest of the day away. Our area expects two million in revenue from them being here which sounds unbelievable.
Karen, no we're not due for any bad weather though I'd almost like to see it to get some rain. We're so below the normal rainfall for this time of the year.
Robin, I was sad that I couldn't find the the bra I wear on Nordstrom Rack. Since I'd have to pay postage to return one if it didn't fit I won't order any. I can't even find my style on the Wacoal site anymore so they must've discontinued it.

We called ds for his birthday last night. Left a voice mail and he called back. Very short call. Happy Birthday. Did you celebrate? See you Saturday. Good bye. It was really strange – I had no idea how to talk to him or what to say. I was afraid of saying the wrong things, of prying, or judging, and when I hung up I worried that I had said too little. This is so dysfunctional. DD made it back to Madison fine, no weather, and she had 45 minutes before she had to leave for her lesson so all was well. I guess she left her class 15 minutes early to get on the road a little sooner. I’m glad she waited.
Karen – I will need to find my masks also. I know where some of them are but I also know I had more than I can find right now. I don’t think we will go back to masking in the office so I won’t need as many, and I can always make more I suppose. I will be surprised if Wisconsin goes back to masks - it was such a battle the first time. I read this morning that they are saying studies are showing a Pfizer booster should protect against the Delta variant. I had Pfizer so I’d go get the booster if that was offered.
Gareth – my friend who rode across the country with his daughter on high wheel bikes posted a trailer from the film being made about their ride. I’m looking forward to seeing it but I don’t expect it will be available “mass market”.
I think I'm going to go to the fabric store at lunch. I want to make a baby blanket for my niece who is due around the same time as her brother's wedding (end of August/beginning september) and I'm thinking of making one for each of ddil's 2 sisters who are due september and october. Is that too weird? I go back and forth on whether that's "appropriate".
Dinner tonight eggplant parmesan. Last night was leftovers. I had a burger and dh finished the schwarma. I have not been journaling well and have not been exercising. Why do we do this to ourselves?

I have no problem with going back to mask wearing. Not my favorite thing whatever helps the number of infected people go down. I dread all the whining and complaining people will do. When I was out yesterday, I noticed more people wearing them. The doctor's office yesterday had a everybody must wear masks sign on the door.
My eye doctor appointment took three hours! I knew it was going to be long but not that long. I had to fill out forms and talk to 4 different people before I even saw the doctor, then I had to talk to the insurance woman. It was after 6 when I finally got home. I think someone dropped the ball and didn't contact me so I would have known I could have filled out forms online.
I don't have an appointment for the procedure yet. I have not been wearing my contacts for 2 weeks now but the doctor wanted me to go another week without them, something about the form of the eye. There are 3 different choices, 1 is for just plain ole cataract. The second for more money of course will be cataract removal and like lasix where I wouldn't need glasses for distance, but would need reading glasses. The third for a lot more money will correct both distance and near vision along with cataract removal. I think I will go for the second option. I would love number 3 but with the stuff that has gone with house I don't think we can afford it right now. The insurance doesn't cover the extra.
I have found being out in the heat and humidity is a migraine trigger. I have to make sure I stay hydrated.

Gareth, you would be surprised how many people do that ride. That must be the one that Linda from our Facebook Booklover thread's DH is on. He is in his 70's, a retired judge, and he rides a lot. I know she said he was in Iowa now for a ride he does every year, so it has to be that.
Marsha, sorry about what is happening with your DS. After sitting for 2 hours with a couple in their 90's, signing their updated will, and talking about gifting they want to do, and with their single daughter, family dynamics are strange in all families I realized. The daughter, who is around my age, is single, never had children. The son is married with 3 children, and works in the business that the older couple owns, and was gifted half the business many years ago. One of his sons, who happens to be my older DS's friend, so I know him, works in the business too. 1 grandson is married, with a baby, the other grandson is engaged. He's the one who is DS's friend, so is already 36. They are having a civil ceremony at the end of August, and will wait to have a wedding. There is always going to be some jealousy somewhere.
Carol, I am seeing most people wearing masks now. I think I mentioned the other day that I felt guilty that I did not put mine on to go into the UPS store. I didn't remember you mentioning the eye surgery, so thanks for explaining. Hope it all works out well.
My DGF texted me that she called the restaurant to say that we wanted to be seated outside. They have a nice garden in the back.

I typed up a lengthy post here and I don’t know what happened to it. So I guess I’ll do a shortened version of it.
Robin, I’m sure you talked about but I don’t remember why you wear a mouth guard? Is it for teeth grinding? After reading your last post, I have a question. Do you find people split their assets equally amongst their children or do most divide it up according to where they feel the need is? I have my own opinion on that but I’d like to get your take on it. When you mentioned jealousy somewhere I got to wondering!
Karen, as of last Sunday there are five months till Christmas! I don’t even want to think about it. I think you’re right about the mask wearing. So discouraging.
Marsha, I’m so sorry about your aunt. Sometimes, though, the most grueling treatments are the most successful. Hopefully this will be the case with your aunt. I truly wish I had some words of wisdom for you regarding DS. I can feel your pain just in reading what you post. I did read once that we can’t change the other person, we can only change how we react to them. Not much help, I know.
Carol, do you have cataracts in both eyes? Do you wear a mouth guard for nighttime teeth grinding?
Gareth, I do the same - set something aside to save it for latter! And at my age I’m still doing it! lol
I had my annual physical today and I’m a “well child”. However, I’m close to having to take meds for cholesterol. Now I REALLY need to lose weight. I have blood work in six months.

Someone asked - my aunt is 95 (or thereabouts). I can't believe they would recommend any kind of treatment on a woman that old if they didn't believe there would be some kind of benefit from it.
Anngie - yes you are so right. I can't count how many times i said to my kids - you can't control anyone's behavior except your own.
I didn't find anything at JoAnn's. There was a much better selection online, even with most of what I saw online coming up unavailable for shipping. But I did buy some thinner batting for making microwave cozies since the ones I made came out too thick. I ordered the supplies for the baby blankets when I got back to my office. Stopped to pick up a tuna on a croissant - so good! Such an indulgence!

Anngie, I would say that most split equally among children, not taking into account who has children of their own. However, there are some who will give more to one child. I have even seen them say they want 75/25. One person who is the son of an old friend of my in-laws. Their drafts were originally 50/50. Coincidentally, we also know his wife's side because the wife's sister married one of my DH's best friends from law school. Both have inherited money. That couple's son is a doctor and rather successful. I am not sure what their daughter does, but they decided they wanted to change to 25% to their son, 75% to their daughter. We have other clients who have 2 sons and a daughter. The daughter lives nearby and helps them out a lot, so they want to give slightly more to the daughter, but it is causing a lot of ill will. I could really write a book about it. There actually is a book about it, The Nest. With these 3 couples, we are talking about millions though, so each child will get a substantial inheritance no matter what. But, it is rare when it does not cause some kind of fighting, including between the spouses. With this couple today, the daughter-in-law is mad that the money is going to their son, not to both of them, even though the son has plenty on his own because the father gave him half their business years ago, and it is a successful one.
Sorry I wrote a book about this. I had a very nice, and delicious, dinner with my friend. I of course ate too much, but brought home half of my fish, and plenty of vegetables, so I have a nice lunch for tomorrow.

Robin, I find it interesting that the parents would even tell those involved what they plan to do - especially since it’s not divided equally!
