If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

Labor of Love, July 7 - September 4
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes âhow can you love someone else if you canât love yourselfâ.
There are many ways we donât show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over âwhy did I drink too muchâ and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierâ. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start forgive yourself, or tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnât here, so letâs deal with the present.
So why is it so hard? The mind set "I messed up today so might as well just finish the bottle or finish the bag of chipsâ has to be changed.
The purpose of this eight week challenge is to discover the reasons behind our drinking and do the hard work it takes to change the behavior. It is a journey of self discovery that you may or may not want to share. This can be painful, this can be bring up old memories, this can be too difficult to tackle. The reasons are so varied. But remember this is a safe place to vent and share and if you are not comfortable sharing here, feel free to use our private FB site (by invitation request).
So does anyone think that alcohol is your friend? Anyone think that the next morning just looks so much better after a night of drinking? Does drinking bring you serenity? So why do we drink?
Some people can have an easy time of giving it up but for most, it just isn't that easy. Many of us start off great and then hit the wall at 10 days. Have you tried to journal your feelings as each day progresses and see what happens when you hit that wall?
"I will let the serene moments wash over me. I will cherish them. They soften me. And the blows of today's tumultuous storm will be lessened."

DH & I walked at the lake after dropping off DD. Came straight home for a change, got wet spraying the bird feeders with the hose. One has sprouts in the bottom, so it's still soaking in a bucket outside. Got cleaned up, went to Publix for my Shingrix shot. Turns out Medicare doesn't cover it (I didn't buy a drug plan since I'm only on two generic prescription drugs). Decided to get it anyway, even though it's $169.99, per shot. My mom suffered so with leg pain after she got shingles. My arm is sore, but otherwise, so far, so good. I hear the side effects are worse after the second one, which I will get in a couple of months. They gave DH & I another vaccine card to keep track of. After I got the vaccine, I went on to Walmart for a couple of things. Got some T-shirts for $5, bought a couple of daylillies that were more than half off. I'll put them in the ground today after we walk. We made veggie lasagna for dinner. I did wear my mask at Publix and inside at Walmart and have been noticing more people doing the same. I wish the CDC had not announced that masks were not necessary indoors for vaccinated people earlier, it's hard to go back.
Hot in the 90's with no rain yesterday, the same is predicted for today. We may get rain on Sunday, along with it cooling down into the 80's.
Liz- So sorry about your fatigue, you've had so much going on. Sounds like you have a good plan for your retirement. Our haze has mostly cleared up, but there is an air quality alert for Atlanta today b/c of the heat.
Murphy- WTG working in the garage and working up a sweat.
GG- Woohoo for being down 3.6, Golo really seems to be working for you. Yay for another SS check. Haven't seen your check yet, but told DH to be on the lookout for it.
Jan- Glad you slept better. Enjoy the peace and quiet today, have fun with your sister and at the party this weekend. GL with all that brown rice.
Cindy- Sorry about the unexpected company, water lines and overhead lines.
Cathy- Glad you could check in.

It was a noisy, wild night of thunder and rain last night. Feel badly for the people camping out at the air show in tents! They had predicted severe weather, canceled all air show events of the evening and closed at 5 yesterday. Doesn't look like any damage around here but saw on the online newspaper that a nearby town lost all power and they want folks to stay in the house until they can clear up powerlines. Gray this morning but dry. We had put the cats in the basement early evening so they wouldn't get stuck outside, they were ready to escape and go out this morning. I'll head to knitting around 9, then on to the grocery store for some produce and a few staples. The goal is to keep the junk food out of the house. My DB brought 2 kinds of chip dip and some things they left here that I will send home with sis after the weekend for her DH to enjoy. No cookies may jump in my cart today and I mean it!! And no wine, ice cream, candy bars or bakery. I think that's a goal I can actually meet today! Ha ha. We've just been able to go back to the senior center for about a month, wonder how long they'll let us keep meeting, if they'll require masks now or just close up again. Pretty sure this will mess up school openings again, school's will be open but have to continue wearing masks, glad I don't have to deal with that. Need to get moving to get my 7 am steps! Hope you all have a great day. Jan Amy Loved the TOTD, so true!! I've finally gotten to see some of the Olympics, at least something enjoyable to watch on TV. I'll need to get to Walmart today for some cat food, have to see what plants are left here. I'm feeling a rice, chicken broccoli bowl in my near future CIndy Hope your company went home at a reasonable hour and you got some sleep. Cathy Did the power go back off? Glad you could check in, and hope you get to visit with your friends this week. Hi to all, I'll check in this afternoon.

Congratulations!
Good morning all! I slept better last night. Still up before 6:00 but I don't mind that. We had a good choir rehearsal last night but I was awfully glad to get home to my bed! LOL
Amy - I am glad I got the shingles shot before I quit work and had to change insurance. My doctor only gives one shot so at least I didn't have to get that second one. We are so hot and dry here. I pray that we get a little rain by the weekend. A friend of mine had a fire on her property yesterday because it is so hot and dry. No idea how it started though but the fire department was able to get it put out quickly.
Jan - what in the world will you do with all that brown rice? Freeze it in portions? I'd be tempted to just chuck it all in the garbage so I don't have to deal with it! The bananas were good. First time I ever dehydrated them and it sure does concentrate the flavor! They will be a good snack though. Right now I have some zucchini and squash drying and will have that on hand for soups. My nails are a bight pink! Now I have to do my toes to match!
Cindy - sorry about the company!
GG - yay for the loss!! LOL at DH complaining when he is doing stuff to sabotage himself. I'm sure guilty of that!
I worked for hours yesterday on a HOA matter. We have a couple of residents who haven't paid HOA monthly dues in YEARS and we had to file a lien on their property. Now they are trying to sell and I had to get a summary together of what they owed and talk with the accountant about figuring interest. Makes my head hurt!! I'm still scheduled for the closing on my property tomorrow. Will be nice to get that done and out of the way. I've got my list of stuff to do today to keep me busy. May check back later. Have a great Friday Eve!! Murphy

Jan we were posting at the same time. That storm sounds rough!! Glad your kitties were safe and sound indoors even if they wanting to be outside exploring!
Amy - I forgot to mention that I agree that I wish the CDC hadn't reversed themselves on the mask issue. I'm washing my masks in the laundry this morning and plan to start having them in the car again. I haven't seen anyone around here with masks on yet. I'm such a homebody that it's easy for me to avoid people except at church.
GG - I haven't played my keyboard much since the trip to Jekyll Island. Must get back to that!
Dryer is buzzing now. BBL Murphy

PT wiped me out! He said he started me slow but we were going to increase today. He sure did! He also said that after a big surgery it will take awhile to build up my endurance. That and not moving before the surgery means I am out of shape! But Iâm working at it!! I have to wear a mask at PT and I hate it! Today I kept lowering it so I could breathe. Itâs Rain Day in Waynesburg, Pa. And yes, it rained!
Iâm tired. More tomorrow.

Hi friends! I worked a double today. Itâs been hot here, Iâm trying to embrace it because in a few months itâll be cold. We had some strong storms too. I left my book outsideđđ» It actually didnât blow up too much. I work early tomorrow (4:45-9:00) then back 2-5. 3 hours will be nothing, so thatâs fine. Iâll try for personals tomorrow. Good night!

Hi girls,
Long day watching Isabel, poor thing was just not having a good day. Tomorrow Iâll got to go he hospital and visit DH. They started him on broth yesterday and today soft foods. Itâs been a week since the last process, so far so good, we should know by next Wednesday if the leak has healed. I canât believe he has been there 17 days.
I have to say that a majority of the people around here have been wearing masks even when they said you didnât need to. I have not stop wearing a mask in the market or stores. I have dined indoors twice and I will not be doing that anymore. Even though I am fully vaccinated, I donât want to take a chance and possibly transmit to either DHâs or the baby. I am still trying to get my kids to get vaccinated, actually praying that they will.
I need to catch up on personals. Good night my friends.

Sorry, I missed reading Wednesdays posts. Amy, no offense taken. Murphy, honestly i donât know why I didnât want the shot to begin with. I think it had to do with not wanting to get sick on the 2 nd shot. When I had Covid, thank God it was not bad, at all. I only got tested because my friends did and I had been with them. Now I donât like some of the horror stories im hearing about people after theyâve gotten the shots. But, there are just as many horror stories of people who didnât get it. I just feel like the government is just a bunch of liars, I was so naive before all of this! However I donât think theyâd give something horrible to the president. I donât know. I think weâre not going to have a choice soon anyway. Im rambling, sorry!

Hi All!
We hit 110 degrees today...air quality warnings! It is suppose to be worse for the next few days. I needed to do errands this morning and wanted to get some fresh produce so by the time I got home, it was too hot to work outside. It just gives me an excuse to veg when I have lots to do inside. Hopefully I will get up early tomorrow so I can water plants, spray weeds and get the birds feed. Hummingbirds are about! I bought a solar fountain for the bird bath and want to get that going in the morning. I brought it outside for just a moment and it started charging up!
I found some seriously distressed plants at the grocery store and bought them. I think I can nurture them back to health. As I opened up the hatch to my SUV, little eyes were staring at me. There was a toad!! I admit to giving a bit of a scream...it just stared back at me. It was sitting on my reusable grocery bags so it was easy to carry it out and I put the toad in the garden. I'm sure it was in the plants but I never saw it.
AT&T was out today supposedly increasing the strength (??) of the bandwith ?? it seemed to solve the internet problems. There have been so many accidents around here lately with wires coming down.
Amy, hope your seedlings succeed! I do try to keep the bird feeders as clean as possible but for some I have bought duplicates so I can get the bird seed out there while I soak the others. Do you have bunnies? I find the bunnies eating the seed and grass early in the morning.
Murphy, yay for getting your hair cut and a manicure! Woot, way for taking good care of yourself! Hope your sleep improves! How is Callie doing? I'm doing a bit more of stock piling as well. Glad the banana chips worked out well!
Jan, agree with Amy, the snake was smiling at you! You handled your company quite well! I don't think I did. I think it showed that I wanted them to leave. I find some people are at just loose ends.
Liz, vent away! Please take good care of yourself! Being a caretaker is draining and you need to "refuel". Any update on DH coming home? Thanks for the update on your retirement. The important thing is to take care of you!
Cathy, yay for being AF! Are you finding the thought of a glass of wine would be nice? Not necessary, but nice. Hope you had a great time with your friends!
Carole, prays for your friend's daughter...I hope she is doing better. It is difficult to understand how a person could say no vax, should die, though I have heard it on different news sources. Amazing how people can be judge and jury. It worries me that freedoms are being taken away. I really feel there is not enough data in general and, for say, women wanting to get pregnant. After many discussions with my RA doctor and PC doc, I finally decided to go with it. I have many friends who haven't gotten the vax. They are also 10 years plus younger than I am and as the news tells me I am elderly.
GG, woot for driving! Now you need to believe!! Glad GOLO is working for you!
Read through the posts but probably forgot half of what I read. Watched "Murder on the Blackpool Express" on Amazon. It was really kinda funny. Now I need to get my steps in before I plant myself into a chair.
Hugs to all, Cindy
