linda72Thanks. What she went through is exactly what the people who had the J&J vaccine got from that vaccine and some died. It's very scary but the vaccine is needed to curb this awful Covid. Two of my neighbors, that I graduated from high school with, who lived a block from me got Covid, both not vaccinated, died a week apart, so sad!

mac, I am very sorry for what your sister went through. My second Moderna hurt more than the first but other than being tired for 24 hours neither my husband or I had any side effects. We have had friends who felt like they had the flu so I don't know what makes it so different in different people.

borntexanThanks! My son asked me one day why people who weigh 250 pounds got the same dose shot as someone who weighs 160 pounds, I dont know? I recently found the papers we got when we had the polio sugar cubes back in 1963. DH and I were 26 years old and we took our three kids under five years old to get the three different sugar cubes to arrest polio. We went to the school gym crammed with people with no masks and no social distancing. The reason I mention this as I read recently that maybe more people would have gotten vaccinated with a sugar cube instead of a shot.

mac, I can remember getting the sugar cube back in the late, mid-1950's. It was in California and we had moved there from Missouri in 1955.

Everywhere I go there are help wanted signs, most of them offering bonuses. This used to be the time of year when high school students were vying for jobs with Parks & Rec, seasonal attractions, etc. Not blaming teenagers here - plenty of people aren't working, but the vacancy in the summer jobs is really hurting our tourist industry.
I believe it's going to backfire on the anti-workers at some point.

I believe it's going to backfire on the anti-workers at some point. The longer someone is out of the work force, the harder it is for them to get and stay employed. People get depressed, give up, start using drugs or alcohol, etc.

squid, NatureLover, if the cycle of unemployment continues, it will not only affect the well being of those people who no longer work but it will impact our country (and the world) for decades to comes. It can become a hopeless situation; I pray that doesn't happen.

Here is a cute memory of the sugar cubes and polio vaccine from the 1960s. I never thought about the safety of the vaccine back then; it seems everyone took it. Sugar cubes

The Galley Restaurant in Morro Bay CA has been open 7 days a week since 1966 but this summer they are closed on Tuesday due to a shortage of kitchen help. Many people who had been in the hospitality industry have found jobs with higher wages and benefits,

mac, I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. linda72, I still have my Sabin vaccine card from 1962. There is a worker shortage in many businesses etc. Many teachers who could not deal with technology retired and states are giving emergency credentials to those who may not be qualified. People receiving unemployment are not looking for jobs. There are so many reasons.

I just saw a headline about restaurant owners saying if they go back to masking indoors they might not be able to stay in business. I'm sure not finding workers doesn't help either.

I think restaurants were unfairly targeted and made into scapegoats. The people I know who contracted Covid all think they got it at a social event from friends or family - birthday party in someone's home, funeral, church service, riding in closed car, etc. Not to mention the ridiculousness of getting Covid from groceries. One of my sisters works in a grocery store and hasn't missed a day of work during the whole pandemic. Her store has only had 2 employees with Covid the whole time. One got it from his roommate and the other from a family gathering.
