squid I agree. The restaurants we went to took extra precautions to space people far apart, remove tables, put up barriers etc. Bars are a different story except those who did take out drinks only. Our son did IT for a large schoo district. Other IT workers carpooled, had meals together and did more social things. He wore N95 masks from day 1 and refused to partake in social gatherings to protect us, his wife and sons. Several of his coworkers had Covid but not him. He is still very cautious.

NatureLover. jamescat1 , Thanks for your concern for my daughter! linda72 Thanks for sharing the great story on the sugar cubes! I'm thinking we may have gotten the sugar cubes in 1964 not 1963. I have the small slips of paper we received that did not give the date we got the cubes, only the age. It says three cubes but I only remember going to the gym once. I know bbbearsmom got the sugar cubes, anyone else?

jamescat1, Our cards aren't dated only ages, from the ages looks like we got it in 1963 I believe and ours says to save it. A young gal my mom worked with got polio and was put in an iron lung, she was bedridden for a long time and in a wheel chair the rest of her life. We were scared to death of the iron lung. My Mom went to the doctor because she had been working with her and the doctor gave her a double shot of penicillin, Mom didn't get it. When the circus came to town that summer we weren't allowed to go to it, not a lot of attendance to it that year.

mac, we had a kid in our neighborhood who was in an iron lung - talk about scary! When the electricity would go out due to a storm, people in the neighborhood would go to their house and take turns pedaling a stationary bike that was connected to a battery that served as a generator. I remember Mom sending us over there to help out. One summer all the swimming pools and playgrounds were closed because parents were scared to death their kids would get polio. When the vaccine became available it was looked upon as manna from heaven, not a conspiracy by George Soros to make us sterile or channel 5G networks thru our bodies. Maybe we were naive, but the vaccine stopped polio dead in its tracks.

squidDo you remember anyone getting sick from the sugar cube? I don't believe we had any reaction and as you said it stopped polio in it's tracks which was a relief if you had kids!

I remember standing in line for the sugar cubes with my parents at a local elementary school. We moved in March 1963 so I think it may have been 1962 as the weather was mild that day. I never heard anyone have side effects or even worry about it. We were relieved to have a vaccine and everyone I knew got the vaccine. jamescat1, I am glad your DS was so cautious with his masks.

Mac prayers for you daughter.
I don’t remember the sugar cubes, but I also wasn’t born until 65. So thank you everyone who went down and took the sugar cubes before me
I am a manager, lately the interviews that I’ve given have been rather interesting. One person asked me multiple times during the interview how long it was going to take because she had other things to do. One person would not sit down, kept looking at the I watch, and would not talk with us. Another person told us they were available during our business hours turned around and told us they needed to have three day weekend every weekend. But to be honest most people on the job site boards are clicking that they are interested in our jobs and when we called them there’s either no response or they’re not interested. We think maybe people are saying they were applying for the job to extend their benefits. In the job that I have the pay is low the benefits are full But truly the rewards come from the heart ♥️

One of my uncles was diagnosed with polio when he was a child- 40's. They had to round up the entire family and they were quarantined. He lost the use of his left arm but other than that he was fine and the only family member affected. He lived a long life- played baseball as a kid, worked, had a family- it never slowed him down.

I wonder whats going to happen with the moratorium on renters being up today. I haven't heard anything in our area yet, how about your area? I feel sorry for the landlords. The banks didn't give them a moratorium on their mortgage payments, and they deserve to make a profit on their investment. Once tenants get this far behind on their rent payments, they're never going to be able to catch up. When the moratorium was originally put in place, I don't think anyone thought Covid was going to be around as long as it's been. I heard on the news about money that was supposed to go to either tenants or landlords (not sure which) to help them with rent thru the moratorium, but hasn't been distributed. It's a mess any way you look at it.

This was pre-October, 1955 but one of things I remember from when we lived in Missouri is hearing that some kid got polio from going down to the creek that was just outside our neighborhood.

I just heard on New York City CBS radio that there is a shortage of liquor due to the worker shortage. Everything needed is in short supply including bottles, labels and such. They mentioned a shortage of warehouse workers and truck drivers.
