This thread is for all of us who have been on the weight loss merry-go-round quite a few times. We have banded together to make this our FINAL time. We offer support & motivation, WEIGHT LOSS TIPS, food ideas – whatever you need to make it your FINAL time. If you start the day’s thread, please copy and paste this paragraph, with the following 2021 Goals:
Carole: 1.) Journal Daily, thoughts, feelings, ideas 2.) Track daily, Good, Bad, Ugly, HONESTLY 3.) Move every day, 10-30 minutes, as able 4.) Limit/Reduce Alcohol, All of it! 5.) Be thankful for something - every day
Gabrielle 1. Wellness--take steps each day to address better wellness (moving, attention to my eating, getting sleep, etc.) 2. Debt-- continue to take steps to eliminate debt (including the kids college debt that we are covering) so that I have no debt when I retire 3. Connectedness-- each month have a plan to stay connected to those who I care about (maybe dinner once/month after COVID, Zoom, phone calls, etc. 4. Creativity -- seek out projects that keep me using the creative side of my brain (knitting, paint parties?, etc.) 5. Journaling/Self-Awareness--find a way to journal my thoughts and to think through challenges and opportunities
Sue: 1. Get moving - plan to utilize my Cubii 3-5 times per week at least 2. Moderation - limiting junk, snacks, wine and all things I know that sabotage my success 3. Good Morning!!
Happy FRIDAY here!!
Yesterday we had terrible storms - heavy heavy rains (like being in a car wash), thunder, and tornadoes...lots of flooding...but by evening it cleared - left a mess behind but our neighborhood did fine. I had to quickly call DM about the tornadoes as she lives in a mobile home. I knew they were predicted for west of her, but one never knows, right?! Naturally there is NO PLAN for her park to evacuate anywhere - she said later they talked about using the church across the road but nothing ever became of it. Really? All these years and there is still no plan for all these folks (it's a fairly large park with about 100 homes) over 60 years old?? I'm tempted to call their park office to find out what's really the plan - or maybe her township. Anyways, the tornadoes went south of her and touched down causing lots of damage - I guess the winds got up to 85 mph! They called it an EOS Tornado? Sorry, not a storm watcher - I also called DD25 Carly as her area was having the same awful storms - I didn't want her caught off guard - sure enough, she had no idea other than the fact it was very dark outside her apartment - I knew she was safe - just didn't want her venturing out to the gym in a potential storm.
Carly is doing fine. Figuring it all out and trying to budget their money - she's been cooking every day and showing us pictures lol Shrimp w/asparagus, Chicken w/green beans, and Chicken Tortellini - she has impressed herself LOL (and me!) - They have a large Aldi's near her and she's discovering great meals to put together - Ben works late each day so he isn't able to help with the cooking just yet - I think he does weekends - Carly was funny, she said he doesn't share the kitchen very well when he's cooking - he's the 'driver' - which makes me laugh, as that is pretty much me here! We have a very small kitchen and it's just easier to let me do it myself! LOL

Today is DH's Birthday! He is now the same age as me (56 yr old)
I have finished several contract reports - I didn't feel like I was very productive but preparing my monthly invoice to the schools I see now that I had a good month! Finished 4/7 - so that's all good. And one was VERY involved and long - but it feels good to get that cleared off my plate.
I also read a few different books on Keto - and actually started playing around with it last weekend. I fully committed this past Monday. It's going far better than I thought! I am using Carb Manager app on my phone and tracking every meal and ingredient. The trick seems to be to choose healthy fats as much as possible, which is honestly very challenging for me as I've had the mindset that Whole Fat was evil and to avoid fats at all costs! Right? But really, avoiding processed foods with carbs and sugar is the goal. It's crazy how many foods naturally have carbs in them - so tracking is a must for me as I'm very new at this way of thinking.
Here's a great find: Avocado Oil LOVE IT! We sautéed red peppers and red onions in it and wow! A very different and fun taste! Linds and I tugged over the leftovers as we both really liked that mix. We put them over taco ground beef on top of spinach salad - yummers - made leftovers for lunches this week. Also made lots of steaks on the grill for leftovers too - I made coleslaw w/vinegar and mayonnaise (not Miracle Whip, not Lite...) full Mayonnaise - wild, I know - no sugar added to the coleslaw but cheese, salt/pepper - it was good!
On Day 3 I did feel a little light headed and 'off' - maybe Keto Flu?? - so I ground up Pink Himalayan salt in a glass of water - chugged it down - voila! Felt better within minutes - It happened again around 2:00 yesterday so I repeated it but don't think I put enough salt in my water as it took much longer for the feeling to pass -
They also recommend being patient and gentle these first few weeks - no heavy workouts - but I am trying to fit in a slow walk just because movement is still important! -
I'm also enjoying my morning coffee w/heavy whipping cream. Aiming for that whole fat - I know, it's a total different way of thinking! I think I was born to eat this way - lol - Here are a few Healthy Fats recommended: Almonds (far more than just 10, but I'm not there yet) Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, Butter Whole cream Bacon drippings
They also warn to monitor amount of processed meats - like bacon - and choose hard cheese over softer versions - oh, and that Greek yogurt I embraced for years? Yeah, you can have it but it costs a good amount of carbs for the day so I've cut back on it - and also need to monitor the amount of proteins - it's less than most folks initially think when hearing about Keto -
So far this week I feel good. I think I lost the bloat. WI is down a bit, nothing huge or A-Ha! to brag about - but I'm determined to keep going forward knowing it can take 2 - 6 weeks to reach Ketosis

Good morning!
Thanks for starting us off today, Christine! Good to see you! It is another hot one here today and hoping for a slight break tomorrow-- 85 degrees at 5:30 am. I have today off (yahoo!) and I am looking forward to getting a few things done today. Wow, so busy at work as most schools come back on August 9th and the CDC and state health officials are announcing changes to safety protocols daily. We'll get through it and kids will be at school but, wow, things changing daily. Still tracking and staying on top of the healthier food choices.....and plan to continue into the weekend.
Christine: Wow, tornadoes? I am terrified of them! Yes, if I were you, I would call the park and ask about what their safety plans might be. How many times have we seen the devastation and mobile home parks in the news? Your mom is lucky to have you there keeping an eye on things. Yahoo for getting over half of the reports done too! Thanks so much for sharing your road to ketosis. I have seen avocado oil and have heard that it is a healthy oil, but we have really used mostly olive oil (like 95% of the time). I am going to look for some avocado oil...thank you! So glad that you are feeling good about this new plan (and is Linds sort of joining you?) I had to look up my yogurt---only 5 g of carbs so not too bad but you are so right...I was shocked (I remember) when I looked up an apple. Sounds like you are embracing the new learning and we are hoping to hear that you feel better! When do the kids go back to your school? I think that DL's last day is nex week, right? Wow, I can't imagine---it's been a long time coming. Happy birthday to Gary!
Jenny: How is the new guy doing? I didn't realize that you were short staffed. Does this mean that you will always be at the same place?
Sue: Hope that you had a good day!
Carole: I think that you are workling from home today? Hope that the day passes quickly.
Lisa: Good job heading out to the gym even though you weren't feeling it....if you imagine how you will feel when you are finished, I can't think of a time when I thought, "I am so bummed that I came to the gym." after I was finished! It's all part of making it a habit, right? Any big plans for the weekend?
Okay, well, think I will get started on some laundry to run it before the day gets too hot. I was thinking last night.... the Tour de France was on since the end of June and the Olympics came on right after. I think that the only thing that has played on the TV in the living room is sports since June 27th (NOTHING else) DH watches only sports----and he wonders why I don't want to sit down and watch a lively game of handball? LOL, oh well. Hope that you all have a good day!

Good Morning and Happy Friday everyone
Well training went really well and he caught on really quickly, which is good, he's from Washington and is studying Geology at Oregon State, and his girlfriend is studying Volcanology at Oregon State as well, he really want's to work in Quality Control but right now there's no opening's so they hired him PT to fill in when the scale techs go on vacation or want a day off and that way he has a foot in the door and can work up. His girlfriend is from Pittsburg and is home visiting her parent's after 2 year's of not seeing them. He's a good kid and really is funny I think he'll fit right in.
Today were blasting again so that's always fun. Here at 9:00am I have to call all the neighbors and let them know were blasting again and this time it's going to be loud, they are blasting a lot of the side of the cliff off so it should be a fun Friday afternoon.
Christine oh my tornado's? That's really scary stuff. I don't blame you for wanting to find out and evacuation plan for DM, that's even scary to think about them being in harms way like that and not knowing what to do or where to go. I would defiantly ask. I'm happy to hear Carly and Ben are settling in their new apartment together. I've heard about the Keto flu from a girl who lost a lot of weight after she had a baby and she say's it's the worst, but I'm glad your at least giving it a shot and I hope it works for you and Lindsey.
Gabrielle we are supposed to have a thunder storm tomorrow so I hope it doesn't set off more fires. It's also going to be around 103 here this weekend, it's just a miserable summer, luckily we don't have any smoke haze here in the valley, it's all out east. Oh I saw the most beautiful sunrise this morning, the sun was huge and it was all orange while rising, just absolutely gorgeous on my way to work this morning.
OK well I gotta run but I hope everyone has a great day:)
Jenny
