If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

Labor of Love, July 7 - September 4
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes āhow can you love someone else if you canāt love yourselfā.
There are many ways we donāt show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over āwhy did I drink too muchā and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierā. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start forgive yourself, or tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnāt here, so letās deal with the present.
So why is it so hard? The mind set "I messed up today so might as well just finish the bottle or finish the bag of chipsā has to be changed.
The purpose of this eight week challenge is to discover the reasons behind our drinking and do the hard work it takes to change the behavior. It is a journey of self discovery that you may or may not want to share. This can be painful, this can be bring up old memories, this can be too difficult to tackle. The reasons are so varied. But remember this is a safe place to vent and share and if you are not comfortable sharing here, feel free to use our private FB site (by invitation request).
So does anyone think that alcohol is your friend? Anyone think that the next morning just looks so much better after a night of drinking? Does drinking bring you serenity? So why do we drink?
Some people can have an easy time of giving it up but for most, it just isn't that easy. Many of us start off great and then hit the wall at 10 days. Have you tried to journal your feelings as each day progresses and see what happens when you hit that wall?
"I will let the serene moments wash over me. I will cherish them. They soften me. And the blows of today's tumultuous storm will be lessened."

Good Morning!
Worked a bit too long in the yard yesterday. DS cut down the pyracanthas and I hauled the branches to the patio so we could cut them down to manageable sizes. The birds are missing them but there was no way they were coming back and I just want to clean up the area. It still needs more work but with the heat, it was exhausting.
Going to try to get another hour of sleep. Will be back later.
Hugs, Cindy

Accomplished....Finished knitting my sock, even with Finn's help, need to sew up the toe. Determined....To loose the bloat/pounds I found this week through tracking, walking and drinking water. The scale told me what's for this AM. Happy for a new week, points and chances to do better. Didn't find anything at my sales yesterday but got my errands done at Walmart. Sis got here late afternoon and we all just ordered pizza for dinner, that I've already come this far, why not mentality. Will pack some snacks to take with us today, heard there is going to be a taco truck at the party. I can work around that, bringing my diet Squirt and will also bring a large iced tea. Planning will help. Stay out of the A and if I want a bite of cake, have a bite and be done. See if I can recruit sis help to keep my on track, I will be the DD so that's a good reason not to drink. Going to stop by a favorite yarn store and snoop our old hometown before the party too. Should be a fun day. Hope you all have a great weekend!! Jan Murphy We seem to post at the same time Sorry about your finger, I've stopped using the mandolin, too scary, use a small Cuisinart instead. Did you celebrate with your Chik Fil A? Glad the money is tucked away in the bank. Cindy Glad you got the bushes out, hope you can get some things done before it heats up again. Hi to all. Check in when I can.

After we dropped DD off, we headed to the park to check out the trails and the farmer's market. Part of the trails circle the park, some go off into the woods. We saw at least 4 deer, including a mama and two younger deer. Saw a hawk flying low in the trees. The farmer's market was small, but we did get some potted herbs and a couple beautiful tomatoes, since we don't have any ripe ones at the moment. The guy selling the herbs seemed very knowledgeable, so I asked him several questions about the care and cultivation. When we got back, I went back to work on checking yesterday's OR cases and running reports, finished up before 1pm. Then I was lazy on the couch for a couple of hours, felt much better after a nap. DH has been craving Chinese food, so we ordered delivery after DS got here. Played Trekking, the national park board game with DH & the kids. I beat DS & DD by two points.
We got an unexpected thunderstorm around dinner time last night. It felt good to sleep in past 8am this morning. We'll be heading out to walk shortly. It's supposed to be another hot one, but a break in the heat is supposed to be coming on Monday. I'll be doing stuff for work this weekend, hope to finish most of the EOM reports tomorrow. My replacement is off all next week.
Cathy- Hope your laundry dried before sunset, your electricity was on more than off, and you enjoyed your wine.
Murphy- Glad the closing went well, you're having fun with your dehydrating project. Yay for sleeping in!
Jan- Hope you are having fun with your sis and the party is great. WTG finishing the sock knitting. Thanks for sharing G.L.A.D. with us.
Cindy- Thanks for getting us started. WTG getting some yard work done in your oppressive heat.

Finally started stirring around some and got my "to do" list going. Just a couple of things left to do. It's already hot and humid here. We "might" get some rain or storms tomorrow and I pray we do. My thumb is better today. Still a hunk missing out of the side but not bleeding anymore. I wish I knew of a farmer's market somewhere close. My neighbor Judy gave me some zucchini and cucumbers from her sister's garden this week and I forgot how much I love really fresh veggies! The cucumbers went in with some sliced grape tomatoes and onions and I put Italian dressing over them. YUM!! I could make a meal off of that!
Cindy - this is the time of year that we really have to pace ourselves when we get outside! I don't even like spending much time in my garage because it is so hot!
Jan - loved GLAD! What a great reminder! I did celebrate with chicken nuggets! They are the best!!
Amy - what herbs did you get? I do love fresh cilantro and basil!
Liz - how is DH today?
Carole - how is work going? Is Ty still home?
I have okra going in the dehydrator. Thankfully, I didn't have to cut that up! Just used a couple of bags of frozen sliced okra. I like to put a few pieces in soups. I'm going to have to buy more canning jars if I keep this up! I'm meeting the family after church tomorrow for lunch to celebrate my sister in law's birthday. We will meet at Olive Garden and I'm thinking I'll stick with soup and salad again. That is best for me to keep from over-indulging!
Hope everyone has a great rest of your Saturday! Murphy

Hi girls. Not much new. Yesterday DD came with Rylee. She enjoyed playing with Birdie. We went for a short walk, which was nice. Then they both ran and ran in the yard. Both were tired when it was time to go home! Birdie goes home today. Depending what time the kids are coming, we may take her home and go out to eat. But neither one of us wants to leave her at her house if the family isnāt there. Last time we did that, she ran all over looking for them. š Sheās no trouble when sheās here. But no, I donāt want a dog! Lol. Iām going to try to go to church tomorrow. Walking isnāt the problem, sitting is. If I canāt do it, I can always leave. Iāve missed going.
Cindy: Glad you got some work done, but also glad you didnāt stay out in the heat too long!
Murphy: DH cut off part of his finger on one of those contraptions!
Jan: That stupid scale has a way of getting our attention, doesnāt it? I have no doubt that it will go back down again soon!
Amy: Will you have to work 8 hours a day next week while she is on vacation?
Hi to all Iāve missed. Iām thinking a nap sounds good right about now!

Hey All!
Woke up with chills from being out in the sun too much yesterday...so I went out in the sun today!....not as long but probably not the best plan. Vegged for rest of the day....then had to go out and figure out why the bird bath crashed to the ground. There is just so much to do....this happens every year....gee, will I learn? LOL!
Was up too early and think I should go to bed early...watched Fast and Furious Nine...it was good if you have watched the others.
Hugs, Cindy
