Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today The weather here is so nice, only in the 70s with a breeze. I'm happy to have my window open and only a few fans going, no AC. I just came back inside from cutting some weeds around the yard - it's amazing how they grow! I finished the 4th block in the Summer Soiree quilt along this morning (picture of all 4 blocks below). I've struggled a bit with fabric selection for these. I have 5 yards of a coordinating fabric line and then I added in a few fabrics of my own (blenders). But I want to make sure I even out the fabrics in the blocks. I'm hoping for 6 blocks that look more "blue" and 6 that look more "green". I'm probably going to have to remake that first block in the top left hand corner. I got a bit "trim happy" and trimmed it down to 12 inches and they are supposed to be 12.5 inches. I'm also not sure I like that green fabric for the star points. I also hand quilted line on a Redwork piece that I found when I pulled all that stuff out last week. I think I can easily finish quilting this wall hanging if I try to do a bit each day. It's just straight line hand quilting, so not too hard. I'm using a thread that's probably over 10 years old, but it seems O.K. - it's a special hand quilting thread. Hope all of you are having nice weather and getting to do some crafting. Take care!

CJ- you have a natural good eye for fabric…..I am sure you will figure out what color fabrics to use for the Pat Sloan quilt…..yes, its a shame but sometimes just taking everything apart is the best way to fix a problem. What a bummer. Every so often I know Joanns has sales on batting by the bolt. A nice thing to take advantage of if you do not need a special batting.
Ruth, what colors will you be using for the afghan for your DGD? The one I am working on was originally sold as a grey/cream and sort of mauve/purple- or at least that is how it looked in the catalog. I changed the mauve/purple to a teal to match DD’s decor and even the sales agent at Mary Maxim liked that color change.
Got a few rows of crocheting in- I really like the yarn they sold- its soft and easy to handle.
Phyl- hope you get your test results today.
Sue- we hope to hear from you soon! Ginny

That is lovely CJ!!! I am such a big fan of the blue/yellow combination. So pretty and great fabric selection.

CJ, I like that green in the top left corner. I think it goes nicely with the other fabric. It's very pretty...that is all the squares together. I'm glad it's cooled off there and you were able to open the windows and let in some outside air.
Ginny, I'm not sure what colors to use. Dgd likes "earth" colors. I want to use Red Heart with love because it's so soft but I don't know if I have enough of any of three colors. I know I don't have enough white in that yarn. I do have some two shades of tan and some green, some gold, and some yellow. I even have a burgandy like color that would probably make the whole afgan look more "fallish". So I just have to decide. Maybe you ladies have suggestions because I know that both of you are good at putting colors together.I could even use the same pattern but make the color sequences different.

Ruth, IMO I would use the tan/green/gold/yellow (depending upon which tan) and get a nice fall look. I did take a look at RH with Love, and checked out the colors (which I hope have not changed from what Joanns site showed). The tan and the green shades will impact- if they “go together” well.It would be nice if the burgundy was a rusty burgundy. If the pattern is just a repeat of the same stitch pattern, perhaps you can add additional colors (maybe equal sized stripes) or use up a large quantity of the color you have the most of with smaller stripes. Or even just a two color afghan. Joanns seems to have that yarn on sale, I actually looked for a variegated yarn to tie colors together…thinking of a beautiful variegated SS I used years ago in a ripple afghan. Saw nothing….what a shame. I am sure you will come up with a lovely color sequence for this afghan. (Boy am I wordy!)
Had some errands to run this am and then Dd came over with the kids…..tough visit with her. She did not leave happy (much of her own doing).
Gonna go online to check out the pattern for making a quilted angel ornament. See ya later.

Thank you for those color suggestions, Ginny. I always seem to put colors together that are known to go together well but I'm always amazed in t7he crochet groups at the items people make with colors that you would never think would work together yet that do even more than you would ever dream. I do need that yellow you mentioned in this afgan because it needs to be brightened up some. I don't want it to be like the old ripple afgans people made years ago that ALWAYS had browns and oranges.
I'm sorry your dd left your home unhappy. Young people today often seem to have a lot of unhappy moments
I got an Annie's craft store catalog today and it's all quilts and sewing. There are some really great quilt pattern pictures in there. There are also some little dodads I would buy if the shipping wasn't so much.$7.99 shipping for an item that probably doesn't even weigh a whole ounce seems a little steep to me esp when said item only costs less than $4.

Ruth, try looking at quilt pictures in that color scheme to see what colors work together well. (You just got that Annies catalog- try that!). Gee, their shipping is high….never seriously entertained buying anything from them, so I never checked out their shipping rates.

The quilts in Annie's catalog are beautiful. They, of course have patterns and fabric but it's nice looking at the pictures and, as you said looking at color combos.I'm going to make myself decide on colors today and how I will make sections...whether narrower, wider or a combination of those widths.
I finally finished the cable stitch cowl. It was a struggle to get done only because I kept changing my mind on how I wanted to make it. It looks great with the mandala yarn. Now the blankets
It's a cooler day today too but I'm not going to do outside work yet. I'm a great procrastinator. Dh is also so we don't get much done.
I hope you all have a great day. Phyl, I hope you're feeling better. Sue I hope you are ok

Hello Everyone We're having another beautiful day here with nice temps, low humidity and a breeze. Looks like some hotter weather is coming though. I did some hand quilting on Monday on the old redwork piece I found. I finished about half of it, so I'm going to try to finish it all so I can bind it with the group of quilts I've been working on. This morning I was able to get all the quilts trimmed that I quilted recently. I have 11 trimmed and ready to work on the binding and hopefully I'll make that 12 with the redwork piece. Hope all of you are well and getting to do some crafting. Take care!

CJ- never ever thought that you would be speaking with such confidence about quilt bindings!!! Wow….glad you got some hand quilting done on the red work piece. Love redwork….so pretty and very classic. I am sure it looks great. How nice that you had one last day of good weather. hotter weather is coming soon….stay cool
Ruth- glad you were able to complete the cable stitch cowl. I know you will work out a great color scheme for the afghan…am looking forward to hearing what colors and design you use. As far as being procrastinators….well you are retired. Its ok! Tomorrow is another day.
Well today my email quilting buddy suggested making prairie point Christmas ornaments. What a great idea! I ordered some Christmas charm packs today from MSQ (it’s free shipping day) and will use that to make ornaments. They look pretty easy to make and so pretty. Its a great idea for me….
Temps are starting to heat up a bit but it is still not too hot. Yes warmer temps are coming….I ran some errands today too so I can stay inside tomorrow and not have to face the heat.
Phyl- did your test results come in?
Sue- hope you and Dh are doing well…and that your new caregiver is a big help to you. G

I changed my whole afgan plan. I've always wanted to make dgd a Drop in the Pond afgan but I forgot. So now I'm going to do that and will make the other for dgs. I think I'm going to make this Drop in the Pond with white, aqua and dark teal. I hope the dark teal will work because it's a different yarn. The white and aqua are Premier basix and my dark teal is Mary Maxim.I can't believe how nice and thick and soft this Premier Basix is but the Mary Maxim maximum looks like it's thinner. I forgot that. May have to rethink the third color.
CJ, it sounds like you will soon have all your quilt tops all completly done except for those you want to send to a long armer.
Ginny, quilted Christmas ornaments sound like a great idea. I know you were already going to make a quilted angel for your friend but now you will have other ornaments to give others and also use yourself.

Well here I am at 1:30 am still crocheting. After I realized that the dark teal was made by a different company I went back and check my Premier Basic section of my stash and found a beautiful turquoise. I started the afgan and they looked fantastic together. This pattern looks extremely complicated but it's actually easy. There is no closed captioning on this video and I can't hear it but she crochets along so that I could follow her even without hearing what she's saying. This pattern is so much fun! I hope those don't turn out to be the proverbial "famous last words".
Oh and Ginny, I don't know when the grandchildren are moving to their own apartment. They're still looking.
I did end up doing a lot of household things today and have a bunch I need to do tomorrow and I hope I can get to pulling out a few weeds outside.
I hope you are all sleeping soundly and getting a good rest. see you all tomorrow.

Ruth the afghan sounds so pretty and its great to hear you so excited over it!!! that is amazing that her video is so good that you can follow it without written directions . So nice when you have a fun project like that.
Ended up walking with a friend from Bible study last night. I am off to a lazy start this am.
See ya later Ginny

Yes it is definitely a hot day here so no weed pulling. Dh was out early though and did some things. Since I got up I've done some cooking but not much else.I will work on the afgan later.
