Kathy ~ That IS an advantage of moving - that no one knows much about you. I prefer to keep my business to myself by & large as well. But we still attend meetings in the same AA circle as when we met many years ago, so many old friends in common there.
Chele ~ I know what you mean about enjoying just the two of you. For years DH and I spent Christmas Day with each other. We would attend our AA Alkathon in the morning, then return home. His VBF invited us for a number of years to his restaurant, but we didn't go - until we got to know his kids better after the divorce and we went to be with them. Most of DH's family went to their "other side" of the family on Christmas Day - but now that one niece lives near us she has taken over hostess duties and we stop by there in the afternoon. But, I never felt the least bit cheated when we spent the day together and we enjoy our time after we get home.
Carolyn ~ Yes - the Pretzel Salad has a layer of crushed pretzels (with butter & sugar) baked and cooled; then a layer of cream cheese and Cool Whip (& sugar) which chills overnight. The top is jello with frozen fruit (I used raspberries this time as that is DH's and DBIL's favorite). Everyone in our family loves it - and I only make it at Christmas.
The Pretzel salad has a funny story behind it. We went to Missouri to visit friends who had moved there and she made it for supper. She and I had it again for breakfast. When I got home, I asked her for the recipe and she told me I already had it. Seems the church we all attended (at one time) locally had published a cookbook and it was in there. Sure enough, I found it and have used it many times since then. Still love it .....
Well, DH is ready and the car is loaded up, so I guess we'll get an early start. DBIL will be happy!
