Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Interesting morning….had to jump start the car to get it to the shop for a brake job….and then worked a few hours. Sort of feel like I have been put through the ringer already. Got a few quiet things to do today- and am making spinach balls for an hors d’oeveres for study group later. The humidity is back……think I will check out the Christmas ornament instructions later on.
Really hoping that we can avoid some of the rain supposed to fall when Ida or the remains of it get here.

It does, indeed, sound like you've been put throught the wringer already. I know how that jump starting cars is. I've done it a LOT. Last year at this time we bought battery tenders and used them on our two old vehicles and they worked wonders! It was so nice having them start for a change. Anyway, sorry you had to do that in order that you could take the car to have it's brakes fixed. Vehicles can really be a pain in the neck. Right now our two older vehicles have a wasp or hornet problem. The hornets build their little nests in the door jams and in back of the mirrors and in one they're inside the gas cap cover.I think that dh went out in the night and sprayed them again.I do hope you don't get a lot of the bad weather associated with the hurricane and CJ too.
I had a bit to do yesterday that kept me from crocheting but I did get the towel topper done.Today I'm going to do some advance cooking and also work on the craft room again and maybe also the bedroom. It could use a good dusting. Then hopefully I'll be able to get some more things crocheted...little things that is.
While people are very concerned about the world situation and the violent storms here I sit and crochet and pray for all.
Happy Monday everyone.

Hello Ginny - Sorry to hear you had jumpstart your car to get to your appointment. Sounds like you have a busy day, hope you are able to rest tonight. Ruth - Hope your cooking goes well today and that you are able to get the things done you want to and then back to crocheting. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. It's still been warm here, but cloudy the last few days. I'm hoping we don't get a lot of rain from the hurricane when it passes by this week. Looks like it's predicted to go a bit north and west of here for the heaviest rain. I finished clearing out that plastic storage tote I mentioned he other day. I had saved 36 packets with the leftover fabric from quilt blocks done by 3 Block of the Month projects. I did get some nice strips of fabric to add to my bag of strips I'm saving for string blocks. And I made a lot of 2.5 inch squares to add to that collection. There were a few larger pieces and I added them to scrap bags that are sorted by color. I'm glad there are only 2 more colors to do this year, because I'm getting really tired of cutting up and storing these scraps I'd love to get back to working on my hand quilting that I was doing last week, but I seem to have lost my momentum with it, hopefully it will return soon. Take care everyone!

HI CRAFTERS, I spent some time yesterday cutting out red and white squares for the snowflake jelly roll,so block 3 is cut out. today I was working on block 4.
this bloating is the pits..or worse.just took off my clothes a little while ago and have a beach cover on. I will have to buy a couple of longer nightgowns, hate nightgowns, rather have pj's..
Saturday we went to a celebration of life, knew some of the people there. LYLE'S wife Pat died late winter or early spring,do not remember.I cannot believe how much he has slowed down these past few months.
he knows he should be someplace, told me he needs his land and trees.
I cannot believe how black his hands are from blood thinners.
I told Don his obit will probably be the next one I read of some one we know.
that's it from here.PHYL

CJ, I especially know today how good you must have felt when you finished going throught that tote. It's what I did today. Went thru bins and boxes and other containers sorting yarn. My crafting for today was to roll yarn balls. I had a lot of tangled yarn and now all the tiny balls are in a bag to go to Good will and the larger ones into a box that I intend to reach into and pull out a handful and whatever it is I'll make a hat with it. Of course that won't happen because I'll end up wanting the colors to at least coordinate with each other. I'm always surprised though, when people post finished items in the crochet groups, just how well colors that you never expect to go together well actually work. I, too, hope you can get back to the things you like to do most
Phyl, sorry the bloating is worse. If it's truly due to gastroparesis as your dietician suggested it could be relieved by medication. Did you talk to your doctor about it or is that why he's sending you to a gastroenterologist...or did you already see one. At any rate if that is still suspected they really need to have you get a gastric motility study.
Ok back to a little more decluttering before I settle in to crocheting. I did a little this morning before dh got up.

Hi!
Ruth, ugh- yellow jackets building nests on your cars does not sound like something fun at all. Jump starting a car is not a big deal…I am just thankful that I had everything there ready for me to get the car started. How did the towel topper come out? Is that for your DGD/DGS apartment?
CJ- perhaps when cooler temps arrive you will feel more like working on your beautiful hand quilting. Let’s hope that we are both spared the extreme rain from Ida.
Phyl- so sorry your friend Lyle is in such decline…hope you can find some comfortable pjs until you can find the source of your bloating.
Think I am going to watch a video on those Christmas ornaments shortly. I want to get started on them. Ginny

Hello Phyl - You are making good progress on the snowflake quilt. Sorry to hear you are still dealing with the bloating issues. Ruth - Good luck with decluttering, it does feel good to sort through a box of things, doesn't it? Ginny - Hope the video gives good instructions on making the Christmas ornaments. Sue - Hope you are well. It's a bit cooler here today and cloudy. Looks like we'll get the rain from the hurricane tomorrow. I'm hoping it stays a bit north and west of me. I filled up that empty storage tote really quickly I had some embroidery and hand quilting kits that I'd been keeping in a 2 gallon ziplock bag, so I moved them into the empty tote. I was going to pull out my Christmas fabrics and see what I have, but I'll wait and do it sometime this week. There are a few Christmas quilt alongs coming up and I might participate in them. The Fat Quarter Shop has one starting in September and it's a row quilt, but I was thinking maybe I'd just make one block a week instead of the whole row and make a wall hanging or table runner. I see that it's only 33x38 so maybe I will make the whole thing. Here's a link to info: blog.fatquartershop.com/mystery-all-the-trimmings-quilt-and-stitch-along/I sure wish they'd have a fabric kit that I like, but most of the time I really don't like the fabrics/colors. Most of these new fabric collection colors are just "blah" to me. I guess I'm not "modern" Take care everyone!

Same happened to me, CJ. I thought a couple times that I was going to have empty bins but they soon became full of other things.Christmas table runners and placemats sound like a fun thing to do.
I put all my really small balls of leftover yarn in one bin so now I just need to reach in and find a couple and do the tops of hats with them and use other larger ones for stripes. I think that you can make really nice hats using some small amounts of color if you pick the right colors and like in quilting sometimes the colors surprise you.
My dh got the great idea to try to kick at one of the yellow jackets which was very high up on the truck. Well as you would expect, next thing he knew he was on the ground with his foot under him. So now he has a lot of pain in the foot and his always constant pain in the hip in the same side is worse. His foot isn't swollen so for now just doing ice packs and he already takes aspirin 4 times a day. If it gets worse we'll go to an emergency ortho clinic that I found out is near our home

Ruth, that is horrible….I will pray for you and Dh regarding his pain in his foot and his hip. (This must be frustrating for you!!!!). Hope he will go to the clinic if that is what is best for him and that they can provide good treatment for him. That is a great idea to put all the smaller amounts of yarn in one tub, ready for use….I am sure you are really good at combining colors to make attractive hats.
CJ, don’t send that hurricane too far north…..that hits me!!! I do hope that you can avoid the worst of it (think we both will see some of it). Hope you can keep your power and get minimal rain. One forecast mentioned that the storm seems to be now moving quickly, which means it gets away from both if us faster- less wind, less rain. I totally agree with you on the fabrics for the September quilt along. None of the fabrics really pop for me, they seem kind of blah. I am sure you will be able to find another line of fabrics that suits your taste. its so easy to fill up a tote with craft supplies. Sounds like you are doing well getting things organized.
My trainee passed his road test this am. (Pfew!). I did watch the prairie point star video. The woman explains it all well, but she has multiple side conversations with her husband who is filming her. its a 24 minute video that could probably be done in 8 minutes if she used her time wisely. (Tough to watch all the segments where she is speaking about non crafting topics). So that was my crafting for the day.

Well the rain is here….they say the overnight rain will be heavy.
CJ- took a quick look at my phone and it looks like you will dodge this storm and its going to go west and north of you. I am happy for you.
I have heard all kinds of wild numbers for rain totals. According to my phone the rain ends around 6 am tomorrow which is a little sooner than they originally indicated. Hope the storm moves even more quickly out to see so it can dump more water back into the ocean where it belongs!!

Good morning although I know it's not morning where you are.
Today is a western NY day. Gray, cloudy and looks like rain. It probably won't rain though and if it does it won't last long and won't be much
Ginny, I hope that it doesn't rain too much there. You still haven't had your drainage issues solved so a lot of rain is not a good thing there.
I didn't feel much like working on gifts yesterday so I made two hats instead. I was 8 hats behind so am now only 6 behind. I do like making hats especially when I don't have to make them a certain size. I did see a pattern today for a cute pony hat that I might make for my two youngest grandsons.
I'll also work on the grandchildren's house warming gifts and try to finish the tote I'm making dgd for her birthday. I don't remember if I mentioned it but probably did and am repeating but it's going to be a red tote with white sections and in the first white section I'm going to put two litte red crosses since she works for the Red Cross.
I'll also be taking care of dh. I'm anxious to see how his foot is today but he's still asleep. He doesn't sleep well in the night so takes frequent naps which he's doing right now.
I also have yarn coming today so have to put that away. I did straighten out my yarn shelves yesterday before dh got up and told me about his foot and hip.
So, see you all later

Ruth, hope that if Dh is able to rest that he is not in too much discomfort. Of course you will take good care of him, I just hope he is not too stubborn to allow you to care for him. I know my Dh would have totally stubbornly avoided getting additional medical attention. The red tote to look like the Red Cross sounds like a perfect gift for your DGD. The housewarming gifts will be appreciated, I am sure. Have they decided on where they will rent an apartment? Hope that your yarn is perfect and that you can easily put it away…glad you got those yarn shelves straightened up!!! Wish I could send some rain your way….its gonna be a long night here I am afraid.
They say at 6 its supposed to start raining hard, but be done with by 3 am. My friend in Maryland says she is supposed to get 5 inches of rain in her area….I keep hoping that the storm moves just a bit more quickly than anticipated and that we are not hit too bad. They are saying we could get up to 6 inches. I wonder how CJ is doing and if she got the heavy rain my Maryland friend has seen all day.
Hope everyone has a good night. Ginny

Ginny, I forgot that I heard last week that parts of Tennessee got over 17 inches of rain in a matter of a few hours I think it was. I haven't heard anymore about that. At the time they reported that about 50people were missing. I haven't heard any more about that. It sounds as bad or worse than a hurricane. How can that much rain even come down that fast? I sure hope you don't get much
Well my septic saga goes on and on. Every since we got it pumpled the pipe keeps gettinng more and more full...it's not supposed to have water in it at all. We use very little water normally but since we saw the water level rising we've used even less and have been waiting to see if the so called septic and field cleaners would help. They haven't helped. So I called a company today and right away she knew who I had pump the tank. I was so surprised she knew that I didn't think to ask her how she knew. She suggested I talk to them. Well already did that and the owner didn't even suggest sending someone to inspect so I told his woman that I didn't want to deal with the old company anymore that her company sounds like they would be better able to diagnose and take care of any problem. So anyway someone is coming tomorrow to check it out. I hope this solves the problem because I'm tired of just taking sponge baths and limiting my doing laundry.Plus I need to get the issue resolved before winter comes and we end up with raw sewage backup at a time when nothing can be done because of frozen ground.

Ruth, I will pray that this company who is coming tomorrow comes up with a solid and effective solution for your septic issues and that they do not rob the bank in the process. Raw sewage backing up into your home is absolutely no fun!! Interesting that the person you spoke with today instantly knew who had worked on your system. Kind of makes you wonder, right? They do make back flow check valves for septic lines to prevent back flow, but that just prevents sewage back up into your home but does not solve the problem. It must be so frustrating taking sponge baths and restricting the laundry you can do.
I just picked up a wet vac from Jane…and as Ds is off from work tomorrow, we can use that if necessary. They are predicting 3-5 inches of rain. Ending 2-3 am. I am more ready for this storm than the last, and a lot of the furniture is moved and now I have the wet vac. I cannot imagine 17 inches of rain from a tropical system…and I have heard of some awful flooding in the south, even Pennsylvania. The weather forecaster I heard earlier said that by tomorrow at 10 am the sun will be shining.
CJ- hope you are ok…..I heard of big trouble in Maryland but not the county my friend lives in.
Ginny
