Lovely Monday to everyone! Looks like its going to be a warm week for me, somewhat humid also. I am going for a walk this am with a friend, really wanted to go early but she asked to leave later. So we will be out in the heat- which is not supposed to be too bad. I did watch Chesapeake shores last night, not a bad episode IMO. I was watching Yellowstone with my DSIL. Its a show that Dh and I even watched a few times. (DSIL and I sometimes watch the same show her in Florida and me here and we text each other in conversation). I remember I really do not like Yellowstone- turned it off and read until Chesapeake shores came on, which I crocheted through while watching. www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/makeover-garlic-spinach-balls/I reposted the link for the spinach balls so you do not have to go back to last weeks thread to find the recipe. DD#2 and DSIL want more masks….so at some point today I will make those. They are easy to make and thankfully they use up fabric that I have here. I am enjoying a quiet morning catching up on some news and sipping my tea…hope everyone has a good Monday. Hi to CJ, Ruth, Phyl, Sue and all who stop in!

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm glad you have a few shows to watch, hope you enjoy them. What pattern are you using for the masks you are making? Hope you can get them done for your DD and DSIL. It's sunny and warmer here too, probably humid but I don't know since I haven't gone outside I tested out the block that makes the center star points on the Autumn Glow quilt and it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be (see attached picture). I found a darker orange/pumpkin colored fabric that has the same pattern as the gold fabric I'm using and I'm going to do the center star all in the pumpkin colored fabric. I also decided to add another red fabric for a few of the leaves. The Snowman quilt along starts this week, so I fussy cut a few of the snowman from the fabric I mentioned a few weeks back (see picture). I'm going to pick 4 of these to be the centers in my blocks for this small quilt. I did some hand quilting last night in Block #5 of my sampler and hope to do some more today. Hope all of you get to do some crafting and have some nice weather. Take care!

Sitting, relaxing and sipping tea sounds like a great thing to do. I hope your walk is not too hot. I know you already plan to take water with you. You will enjoy being with your friend
CJ those fabrics will be great for that center star. I love the colors and I love the little leaves on the other fabric.
Well I finally finished one potholder and the tote bag. Now onto working down my list. The tote bag didn't end up exactly like I wanted it but it is just a tote bag and will serve it's purpose. So with just getting those two items finished you can see that my past few days...maybe even a week has not be very productive as far as crocheting goes.
I also just got finished writing the letter of thanks to my Indiana neighbor so dh will be happy about that. I wish I had a nice card to go with it but the letter will have to do for now. Whenever we get to go there I'll have to take them something based on this state. I'm not sure what that will be yet.
Ok I'm going to go find my list and start working on it.
Have a great day

CJ- what a nice job fussy cutting those snow men! That quilt will be adorable for sure. Glad you got some hand quilting done too..and you must have one massive stash of fabric at your house! You seem to be able to just pull out these fabrics and not have to buy more. Impressive for sure. I have a lot of teachers in my family.- and its near impossible to teach 6-8 hours a day through a multi ply mask. I found an easy pattern to make a single ply mask which is what I am using. It works and they say its easier. Honestly unless you are wearing an N95 mask, they are rather useless. Will find the link and post it.
Ruth always nice to work your way down a list and know you are making progress. Bet it feels good to have that thank you letter written….it feels good to be gracious. Glad you got a potholder and tote bag done. Bet the tote bag looks great….no one but you will notice that its not exactly as you wanted. Have you made any decisions regarding your septic system??
Well I think today and tomorrow my crafting might be grape jelly. I have to go to the store now and try to find more sure jell and cheese cloth. I thought I had maybe 4 batches of jelly out there in grapes and it’s probably more like 8 batches. Dd and the kids are coming over tomorrow to help make jelly so it will be a messy but fun day.

I felt very lucky last night……got to the smaller food store and hoped they would have the supplies I need to make a ton of jelly today. Of course, each store is organized differently and I had to ask where to find the cheesecloth and sure jell…..thankfully they had both and a decent amount of them So I am expecting Dd and the grandkids here this am to make a bunch of grape jelly.

Hello Everyone - Hope you all doing well today Ginny - Hope the grape jelly making goes well. I can still remember the taste of my grandmother's grape jelly. Back when she made it she put that layer of wax on top of the jelly before putting the lid on it - the old days I used to make a lot of preserves - strawberry, peach, fig. But I haven't done that for several years. The hardest one I ever made was Seedless Black Raspberry preserves. This is my favorite preserve, but it was a lot of work running those berries through a food mill to get out the seeds. I only did that one year Ruth - I'm glad to hear you are making progress on your list and that you were able to get the letter done. Phyl and Sue - Hope you get to do some crafting. It's in the mid-80s here today with a pretty sunny sky with white clouds. I'm looking forward to the temperatures getting into the 70s again. I finished Block #5 on my sampler and have half of Block #6 hand quilted. I hope to finish the rest of that tonight. I'm starting to get tired of this project, but I want to push on and get it finished. I also cut all the fabric required for the blocks of the Autumn Glow quilt, so now I can start piecing blocks as I have time. A new quilt along started today, but I'm not sure if I'll participate. It the "All The Trimmings" from the Fat Quarter Shop: blog.patsloan.com/2021/09/-free-all-the-trimmings-sew-along-part-1.htmlI may think about doing just one block for each row and making a table runner. I have a QUESTION for all of you. This has been bugging me because I guess I missed where people changed how they talk. Here's an example: I say: Would you like to go with me? People now say: Would you like to go with? When did people stop saying "me" at the end of that question. It's so strange but I see it everywhere in books and when people write on the Internet (like on message boards). When I went to school we never ended a sentence just saying "with". I keep wanting to say "with what" Do you all notice this or when you learned grammar in school did you learn differently? Thanks for your thoughts. Take care everyone!

I agree CJ. Many things the younger generation does mystifies me. They do not know grammar, they speak in "ghetto speak". they know nothing about the history of our country. It's amazing when Jessie Watters goes into the street and asks questions of college students and other adults, just how deficient their education seems to have been. They don't even know that certain places are not states but are cities. They don't recognize pictures of very famous people. Show them a picture of Beyonce and they know that. Show them a picture of Abraham Lincoln and they have no clue. They don't know that Ireland is not in Africa.
Ginny, I remember you making grape jelly last year. I've never made jelly, jam or preserves or any canned thing for that matter except once I made bread and butter pickles with my aunt. Your grape jelly reminded me that Welch's used to make grape preserves. I haven't seen them in years. Even strawberry preserves is now more like strawberry jam. I do love Cherry preserves because it still has chunks of cherries.

CJ- I would like to go with you to an Amish market! Does that answer your question???
Ruth your memory is sharp….. made jelly 2 years ago I think. Think I missed last year…..
Back to language. When did it become “so fun” to do something! What happened to something Being “so much fun”?
Holding a sleeping grandson - hard to read and respond

Ruth-Yes love Jesse Waters and how he exposes the ignorance of different generations!
CJ- my grapes are concords with seeds so I have to strain the juice using cheese cloth. I can imagine the seedless blackberry jelly was also quite a process

Ginny, sadly we have no concord grapes here. They're my favorite. They used to have them in stores here about once a year but now I haven't seen them in many years. Holding a sleeping grandson on your lap is a wonderful feeling. It sure doesn't seem like I did that 4 months ago. I can't believe my youngest great grandson is already four months old.I'm glad you were able to get your needed supplies for the jelly when you went out to buy them a couple evenings ago.
Just one year ago today we had a huge snow storm that broke many trees. Also that's when we had hot water heater issues, bought a new one, installed it and it didn't work either. Now it's septic problems just a year later.. IN between were those other plumbing issues.Facebook is good for something I guess...reminds you of everything.

Hello Everyone Phyl - It's always fun to find things we forgot we had. Hope you can get your Jelly Snowflake finished and that you enjoy the time sewing with your friends. Best wishes on the health issues. Ruth - Sorry you don't have concord grapes there. I have found them in the grocery store a few times. My father used to have concord grape vines in his yard. I feel for you having septic issues. We had to have a whole line dug up in the yard and replaced several years ago. Lots of my problems in the house are all plumbing/water related! Ginny - I remember using cheesecloth for straining things too. Hope the jelly turns out well - I bet the grandchildren will love it. I'd like to go to the Amish Market. It will be 2 years in December since I was there. I'm just not ready to shop in a store like that - it's always crowded and in such a small place I just think it would be easier to catch the virus. Sue - Hope you are well. It's a warm day here. but sunny. I worked some more on the Autumn Glow quilt this morning and made all the half square triangles for the leaf blocks. I just need to trim and press them and then those blocks will be ready to assemble. I'm saving the star points blocks to do after I finish the leaves. I also did some hand quilting last night and finished all 6 blocks on the sampler quilt and started working on the sashing. I'm happy to be moving along with this project. I really thought I'd never finish it Hope you all get to do some crafting and are having nice weather. Take care!

Good to hear from you Phyl. Best of luck adding foods back into your diet, and I hope that you are able to identify the problem food and easily eliminate it if necessary. Yes, I have heard that hospitals are getting full of unvaccinated sick people and we are not in winter yet. Stay careful and safe…. So glad your favorite seam ripper and thread puller have been located. Do not blame you for not taking that class awhile ago….especially when you had a long drive to get there. Enjoy your sew day next week with Nita and Barbara when they come over.
Ruth-so its been quite a year for you- but this is one of the”joys” of homeownership. Have you had any luck figuring out what you will be doing with your septic system?I would think that Concord grapes are out of favor because they are seeded. They have a distinctive taste, andI cannot imagine another grape for jelly. Its hard to believe that your youngest DGGS is already 4 months old!! Wow he must be starting to roll over now and almost able to sit up with some support. they grow so quickly.
CJ- looking forward to seeing what you do with the Autumn glow quilt!!! Hope I answered your question about language. My sister is a bit of a language snob, and those trends you mentioned bother the heck out of her.
Well obviously I was babysitting.. DGS is a bit over a year old but as this is the first day I am sitting for him recently I decided to pick my battles…and hold him. He was very well behaved so was his sister. Thankfully it was a good day for me.
No crafting today. But i got lots of mask requests from the grandkids, and remembered some other fabrics that I have that would make great masks for kids.
See ya tomorrow. Sue, hope you are doing well. Ginny

CJ- glad you finished your hand quilting!!!! I wonder if you got to an Amish market just when they open if they would be less crowded. I would love to go to one also…but for me its a long long drive.
