good morning!!
Ruth, the quilt as you go videos are decent…and if you were to start making a potholder, table runner or placemat using that technique it would work out fine. Its QAYG just means that you will attach the fabric to the batting as part of the process, instead of making a quilt top and then attaching the top to the batting and backing. Its easy and does not require much precision with cutting…until you get to the binding.
Hot here today. So looking forward to fall weather. Ginny

Phyl, hope you are feeling better for your sew day! Are you improving much??? Of course now it’s a bit late but I wonder if you could order some snowman fabric for the sew along. Of course trucks, Christmas trees, sleds,Santa’s …. All would work out great based upon the coordinating fabrics you used. I am sure CJ will be able to describe exactly what to do knowing how talented she is at quilting.

Hello Everyone Phyl - Here's a link to the page where she is selling the panel for the Snowman quilt along: jacquelynnesteves-shop.com/collections/fabric/products/snowmen-silent-night-fabric-panels-buttonsI think any kind of fussy cut fabric for the center will work with this quilt along. The truck would be cute. Last year I did her quilt along for the Fa La La and made one in Autumn/Fall colors. Sorry you still haven't been feeling well. Ruth - I'm glad to hear your projects are coming along. Hope you can find a YouTube video to help you with a quilting project. Ginny - It's hot here too, hopefully this is the last week of hot weather for us. Sue - Hope you are doing well. I haven't done any quilting today, if I don't get it done in the morning I can't seem to get to it. I did order some fabric online since I want to participate in Pat Sloan's Happy Everything quilt along that starts next month: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/happy-everything-sampler-from-my-holiday-book.htmlI've never made an asymmetrical quilt before and I thought this one would be a good one to try. I wanted to buy a coordinated fat quarter bundle rather than trying to work with fabrics I already had. This is the one I bought: www.fatquartershop.com/30s-playtime-fat-quarter-bundleI figured this would make a pretty and bright quilt. I'll probably need to add in some background fabric from my stash but hopefully I already have some that will work. I'll decide once I get the fat quarter bundle and I can see what the fabrics look like. I'm think a white fabric will probably work. I didn't buy this fabric from the Fat Quarter Shop, I just used their website to show you since it has the best picture of the fabric. I found the fabric cheaper at another business. Take care everyone!

What happened to fall weather??? Got my AC back on and I think it will be on for a few days. I slept miserably last night due to the heat.and humidity.
Thanks CJ for doing a much better describing to Phyl what was necessary for the snowman quilt.. Think that is a great asymmetrical quilt to start on! I agree, my eye usually goes to symmetry , but this quilt has enough symmetry to not seem too abstract. I like it. The fabric bundle you bought is very pretty and diverse enough in colors that it will work beautifully and make a dramatic and pretty quilt. I agree, a white on white fabric would be lovely to tie it all together.
My crafting for today might very well being getting the recipe and ingredients to make slime with DGD. I stopped at dollar tree and bought some craft supplies to make things with her when I see her next. G

I've been here a few times but each time got interrupted.
Happy new week all
Phyl, I hope they can find something to make you feel better. You are not a person that likes to sit and do nothing so you need them to help you with this problem.
CJ, Yes I'd go to another site to order fat quarters also. Can't believe that one is over $100. They are pretty fabrics though.
Ginny you are so good at finding crafts to do with your grandchildren. Thank you for the info on quilt as you go potholders. I do have some bookmarked already but just haven't got to doing them yet.

Hello Ginny - Hope the slime making goes well Ruth - Hope you are getting to work on a few projects. It's hot here again today and I saw that next week is supposed to be in the 80s too, but maybe it will be a bit cooler. I'm tired of the heat in the house. I had planned to work on my Autumn Glow quilt this morning but then I received a phone call and by the time it was over it was too late to work on the quilt - maybe I'll get to it another morning this week. I also have the Mini Sewing Bee blocks to make for this month. They are cute little pinwheels: temeculaquiltco.blogspot.com/2021/09/tqc-journal-issue-no-14.htmlI've been saving the patterns for the All the Trimmings quilt along and would like to make the blocks, but I'm just not in a Christmas mood right now. I'd rather make Autumn quilts. Here's a link to see today's block - it's a cute stocking: blog.patsloan.com/2021/09/-free-all-the-trimmings-sew-along-part-2.htmlInstead of making a larger quilt, I thought it might be fun to just make one of each of the blocks and make them into a table runner. Take care everyone!

CJ, that stocking really is cute and it looks like it's not all that hard to make. I went to the other site too and saw the pinwheels. They also look pretty easy except how in the world to you keep from cutting off the points. I see that, also, the one they showed there was puckered where the points come together. That would be me if I ever made any. And it would drive me crazy so I'd have to take it out and do it over or just abandon the whole thing. I hope the phone call you got that kept you from Quilting was an enjoyable one and not one that caused you anxiety. So today I spent some time with dh and helped him make his meal whatever he called it. Then he went to take a nap and I chatted with youngest dgd via email. I was surprised she had email about a month ago when I got one from her but it's from the homeschool coop that they attend once a week. She likes to do little chats and asks me various questions so today she asked what I liked to make the most so I told her blankets and hats, maybe shawls and earwarmers. She said she loves crochet blankets. I don't know that she's ever even seen a crochet blanket but who knows. Anyway she asked me if I could make her one and said, "if you don't want to I totally understand". Well you know what my answer was. Of course I'll make her one. So I sent her some pictures and she picked one called snowy mountains blanket by Daisy Farm Crafts. It's one I've been wanting to try since it came out. So it goes on my never ending list I've finished my triangle shawl neckwarmers for now and am working on the baby Yoda for ds. I sent him one last year but it was a very simple one so I'm making him the more detailed one that I made for dd...and sorry, I remember I already said that. Then it's the rest of the Christmas things and dh's blanket then I'll start of the mountain one for dgd. So I have 4 more of those neckwarmers to make, two things for the 4 guys in the family here, two of the baby doll bassinette purses and clothing for those 5 inch dolls and maybe something for the boys that live in Montana but nohurry on that as I won't see them and they won't be visiting here for awhile.

Good evening!! CJ- I love those mini blocks….but doubt I have the patience to work on something that small. I agree they are adorable pinwheels- what fabrics will you be using for them?? I went to the Pat Sloan site and found that depending upon the fabrics used, I was unable to really see the stocking- the block on the top right with a white fabric stocking, well it just did not seem as obvious to me that a stocking was there. Its a cute block….but going back to you working with fall fabrics, sure would look silly in fall colors. And yes, I know you had no intention of making a stocking block in fall colors. Funny how a phone call can disrupt our plans for the day. Hope it was a happy call. Ruth, here is the link for the potholders.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfn13KReGCUWhat I like about it is the random pattern, cutting precision is not necessary unless you are going to make a specific pattern. The slime recipe was PERFECT. Its on PBSkids.org. 2 ingredients, white elmers glue and borax. And water. As it reacts it starts out runny….and then firms up. We left it alone for about 3 hours and it firmed up even more and made a perfect slime. DGD had a great time making it and it kept her busy playing with the stuff for a long time. Have a good night all. Ginny

I had the same experience looking at those blocks. I didn't recognize it as a stocking right away.
Do you use 20 Mule team borax? I'm going to take some of that with me when I go to visit. I know that at least the younger kids would all love to play with slime.
That you for that video link, Ginny. I'm going to go there now and watch it. I might have to take some time out of crocheting and make a couple. I think I know the perfect fabric for it in my stash.

It sure was 20 mule team borax. And you only need a tiny amount of it!! www.pbs.org/parents/crafts-and-experiments/homemade-gak This is the link for the slime (they call it gak). You do not need it but food coloring makes it a bit more fun. DGD loved her pink slime…..and I used real elmers glue - got it in 4 0z bottles from dollar tree. Directions are easy to follow. What was I thinking???I now have 2 cats. Both approximately the same age and both young enough that they still enjoy playing. At some sick hour in the middle of the night they decided to chase each other (friendly play). Actually, I am glad they get along so well…just wish I had slept better ha ha ha.

I bought some of the 20 mule team borax to use for an ant problem we had a couple years ago. Haven't seen an ant in the house since. Since I had the box of it left I used it in laundray a couple times but have plenty left. I see it only takes a tsp for each batch. Once back in 2005 we saw toys marked way down at the Walmart in Arkansas. Since we were going to stop at ds' house on our way back to Wy we bought some to give them. They only had 3 children then. The gift we bought for the oldest was something that used slime. I'm pretty sure the parents didn't care much for the slime toy That's one of the benefits of being the grandparent. I'm sending their youngest finger painting for his 4th birthday which is in Nov Yes that's cats for you. They like to play and don't care that you're trying to sleep. I one time was babysitting my dd's children for a few days and their cat would come in a wake me every morning. At least it was morning but I'm not a morning person. I hope they will play quietly tonight so you can sleep. I'm working on the baby yoda, as I mentioned, and really coming along on it. The part I dislike is sewing on the parts but at least I have a lot of the parts made.I should have them all made by tomorrow and then will sew him all together on Friday. I also want to get the gifts wrapped and packed for the two dgd's who had bdays in August and will have one in Sept since we're going to the post office next week to return the Directv equipment. And yes, they tell me I have to return the remotes which I was planning on doing anyway because we already have a whole bunch of remotes from other devices we've had in the past.We tossed some but they seem to multiply. I also have to return the power cords which we didn't have to do with Dish and cable. At least they aren't having us return anything from the sattelite dish itself which we had to do with Dish Network.Expecting to have to do that is one reason we put off terminating our service with them until summer

Hello Everyone Ginny - I'm glad to hear the slime making went well and that your DGD had fun with it. It is fun watching kitties playing with each other, hopefully they can limit that to daytime hours so you can sleep Ruth - The baby yoda sounds like it is coming along and I hope you can get the other gifts ready to be mailed out. Good luck with getting things worked out with your DirectTV things. I've found all things to do with cable TV to be frustrating - it seems like it should be easier. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well It's another hot day here, I can't wait to get done with this weather and have some wonderful Fall weather. My phone call yesterday was sadly to let me know about the death of someone I know. It was expected, but still sad. Then in the afternoon one of my neighbors was taken away by ambulance, so I hope that they will be O.K. I think it's easier to see the Christmas stocking block pictures by looking at Pat Sloan's Facebook page - Quilt Along with Pat Sloan - that's where a lot of pretty pictures are posted. I was finally able to get some quilting done this morning and finished the small blocks for the Mini Sewing Bee (pictures below) and the next block for Pat Sloan's Summer Soiree quilt along. There is only one block left (next week) and I'm having some problems deciding on my sashing fabric. I really need to look at that this week and figure it out. I see that Pat Sloan is starting up another quilt along after this one finishes - it's called the Fall Frolic and it runs from Oct 13th to Dec 22nd. It only has 9 blocks and she has already shown the layout for it. I like that she does this since it helps to pick sashing and border fabrics. Here's a link to info on that and Block #11 of the Summer Soiree: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2021/09/block-11-summer-soiree-and-next-sew-along-reveal.htmlI'm not sure if I'll participate or not. There are just a lot of quilt alongs going on right now and I get to where it's too much Take care everyone!
