"23 April is a symbolic date for world literature. It is on this date in 1616 that Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors, such as Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo. It was a natural choice for UNESCO's General Conference, held in Paris in 1995, to pay a world-wide tribute to books and authors on this date, encouraging everyone, and in particular young people, to discover the pleasure of reading and gain a renewed respect for the irreplaceable contributions of those, who have furthered the social and cultural progress of humanity. With this in mind, UNESCO created the World Book and Copyright Day. World Book Capital for 2017: Conakry, Guinea Each year, UNESCO and the international organizations representing the three major sectors of the book industry - publishers, booksellers and libraries, select the World Book Capital for a one-year period, effective 23 April each year. The selection committee singled out Conakry “on account of the quality and diversity of its programme, in particular its focus on community involvement” as well as “for its well-structured budget and clear development goals with a strong emphasis on youth and literacy.”" www.un.org/en/events/bookday/

I am so glad I didn't know it was national cherry cheesecake day.If I see any lost dogs they are not coming home with me.A picnic sounds nice but I'm afraid the food would blow off in this wind. Thanks for keeping up this thread DebDoesWW.

This is sooooo good!
Holiday Cream Cheese Cake
1 cup ground vanilla wafers 2 tablespoons sugar 1/4 pound margarine or butter melted or softened
In a small bowl mix together ground wafers and sugar. Blend in butter. Press mixture evenly against bottom of an ungreased 8 inch spring form pan.
3 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese softened 1 cup sugar 3 whole eggs 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Combine cream cheese and 1 cup sugar in large bowl. Beat on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add whole eggs one at time, beating well after each addition. Thoroughly blend in lemon juice, lemon peel, and vanilla extract. Pour into prepared pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Cool in pan on wire rack. Chill overnight before serving. Garnish as desired. We like a can of cherry pie filling as the garnish. Makes 10 servings.
