CJ- so glad you were able to find credit card companies to stand by you- they have earned your loyalty for sure. I do the same thing, and am most loyal to two companies who have been good to me. If you have been a good customer with them for a long time they do owe you for that loyalty!!! Regarding your quilting- you are talented….and I absolutely do mean it regarding how different fabrics can stretch , even when they are quilt shop quality. Surely not worth beating yourself up over!! I have seen masterpiece quilts that I just plain did not like….and its all personal taste. Once I saw a quilt. That they were looking for votes on the most popular color scheme. I loved this quilt in the one color way….and the other I hated it. Same quilt, just different colors. Get busy with those orange scraps!!! And put that quilt away if it no longer pleases you.
Ruth, well good luck with a 7 year old and a 10 year old sharing a laptop. Yikes. So sweet that they can contact you that way and I am sure they keep you busy with their newfound correspondence.
Hope to get some embroidery done in a bit. Its been a nice break for me and is easy to do….until i get to those christmas ornaments. Ginny

Hello Everyone - Hope we all have a good week Ginny - Hope you can get some embroidery done, I love doing handwork and wish I would make myself do it more often. Also hope you get to work on the Christmas ornaments. Will you be working some this week? Ruth - It's sweet that your grandchildren send you emails, I hope they work things out with the laptop. I wouldn't want to be a parent now trying to figure out how much time to let children spend on electronics. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. I was able to get a lot done this morning. I finished the rest of my whirligig blocks (they are really just a rail fence variation) and my house blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge for the year. I went ahead and pulled out the brown fabrics to work with the orange fabrics. I still need to make a strip set of the oranges and one of the browns. Then I just need to finish trimming up the scraps and storing them away. Now I can decide how to piece these blocks into a quilt. I'll have the Whirligig quilt, the Houses quilt, the Strip Sets, and the Sudoku quilt that I've been saving 2.5 inch squares for. That's pretty good to get 4 quilts out of scraps this year. And I have so many scraps left! At least they will be mostly organized now. I'm putting pictures of the monthly blocks below and I'll make a separate post of my Summer Soiree quilt top. The weather here is very nice again, hope your weather is nice and you get to do some crafting The Whirligig block colors don't show well in this picture - first 2 on top row are brown, last one on second row is a dark purple, first one on last row is a dark blue.

Here's my Summer Soiree quilt top and a picture of the bonus half square triangles that I made into pinwheel blocks and a nine patch. I'll add them to my orphan blocks that I hope to make into a quilt top someday.

I love seeing your blocks, quilt tops, etc and enjoy seeing the color combos you've chosen. You really do fabulous work.
Ginny, it sounds like you're going to have a relaxing day today and getting in some embroidery. Yes Christmas will be here sooner than we think. It's hard to believe that this month has only a couple more days in it.
It's beautiful fall weather here. It's maybe a little warmer than it should be at this time of year but that's fine with me.
I've done my vacuuming so now I can relax and crochet.

well I'm back again. I've pretty much been crocheting since I posted earlier. I got this bandana cowl done. It's easy and fast to do and really looks nice when done. Mine is in Caron's simply soft speckle in the colorway they call blue gingham. The yarn looked nice online when I ordered it but when it came I thought it was pretty ugly but now that I've used it and made it into something it's actually very pretty and seems very appropriate for this item. Here's the link in case you want to see what it looks like in the yarn they used. spoonsandhooks.com/2017/11/24/free-crochet-pattern-two-in-one-bandana-cowl/I have two more to do and I'll use this same pattern for at least one more. I'm even thinking of making one for myself so that I can use it under my coat to keep my neck warm

Ruth, that bandana scarf is so very pretty!! I actually have a yarn that looks a lot like the off white bandana- its tempting to try to make that as i would not have to buy a thing…just another thing to add to my “to do “ list. its very pretty…and I hope you make one for yourself. You are always making for others.. the yarn I have is a speckle…tan with brown and black flecks. Wanna come vacuum my house? It needs it.! Tomorrow is a restful day for me- today a busy one. Glad you have nice fall weather- warner us probably better for you. Enjoy the nice weather while it is with you.
CJ- as always your work is magnificent. The colors came through well on my IPad. I love the little houses quilt! (Have always wanted to make a houses quilt). You are doing a great job of using up scraps- a nice way to be creative and useful also. The house pattern really unifies the quilt, allowing different color combinations.
Well I did it. I signed and mailed the waterproofing contract. Sounds like if till only take 2 days - of course the work to restore the sheet rock will be longer than that but somewhat less invasive.
gotta go straighten up the kitchen. G

Ginny, that bandana cowl is so easy! I did change the neck part from sc to hdc and also she says to do 50 sc foundation stitches and use an I hook. I had to use a J hook and do a chain of 58. You just have to make sure that when you get to the bandana part (you do the neck part first), that you have an odd number of stitches. For some reason she seems confused about doing a chainless foundation and losing a stitch like you would with a regular chain. In chainless foundation you don't turn so you don't "lose" a stitch. Anyway now that I'm on the last row before the cowl part I'll just do an increase to make the count an odd number(I'm using an I hook and 60 sts on this one). I'm using Red Heart with Love for this one and I wish I'd used J hook for this one too because RHWL is a thicker yarn than CSS. Your color sounds like it's perfect for this item.Oh and you also have to turn after each round if you want your's to look exactly like hers otherwise there's no need to turn.Turning does prevent that usually very visible slanting seam you usually get with hdc...not completely but a little.
I'm a pretty loose crocheter so the need for more chains is not because I crochet too tight. In the comments there were several others that said the same thing about adding chains. Oh and also I'm not good at chainless foundations but I did manage to get these done and although not exactly as it should be, once I started the actual pattern they looked fine. I love how stretchy the chainless foundation is.Of course you don't HAVE to use that either. you can do just a regular chain if you don't know how to do the chainless. I think you said you do know how.

Hello Thanks for your comments on my quilts, I appreciate them. I posted the Summer Soiree quilt top picture on Pat Sloan's Facebook page, and Pat Sloan herself said she liked it!!!! I was so excited Ginny - I'm glad you've signed the contract to have the work done and I hope it all goes well so you can be free of worry I've always wanted to make a house quilt too, a larger one than this one will probably be once I join the houses together. Ruth - That bandana cowl is so pretty and very stylish. I can imagine whoever you give them to is going to look very nice wearing it. And I can imagine it would be nice and warm when it's colder. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are doing well I finished sewing together my strip sets of orange and brown fabrics this morning and now I've sorted all my colored scraps for the year. I'm so happy to be done with that. I have a bag full of 2.5 inch squares, a bag of 1.0-2.0 inch strips and a separate bag of each color with 2.5 inch strips and larger pieces. I may take a break from Rainbow Scraping for the rest of the year and next year I can use what I've cut up I will try to put all the quilt tops together though. I've also been doing some hand quilting on my hand pieced sampler. I'm working on the outer border now and I'm almost half way done. Once I finish I'm ready to trim the quilt and stitch the binding. I'm going to use a different method than I normally do. I'll keep the quilt top a bit larger and fold the top to the back and hand stitch down. I did use a stencil for the outer border and used a chalk pencil for the first time. It works pretty good. Hope all of you are having a good day and getting to do some crafting

CJ, Yes I'm sure that having your sorting of small blocks and pieces done is very satisfying. Now you're all set for those rainbow quilts you want to make. I don't know Pat Sloan but when someone that has online tutorials and patterns and a good following like she has likes your quilt it really is a good feeling and in your case well deserved!
The bandana cowl has endless possibilities for variations. In both the cowl section and bandana section you can actually do any stitch you want or any stitch pattern you want. In the one I'm working on now I just added a row of bead stitch. You could make it with puff stitches, shells, clusters, granny stitch, sedge stitch, moss stitch, crossed stitch...you name it you can do it in this pattern.
I hope everyone has a good evening

CJ- that is quite a compliment that Pat Sloane said your quilt looked great!! It does…. Glad you are getting to the bottom of your scraps and are using them up. What a feeling of accomplishment!!
Ruth, I might give that bandana pattern a try. So very pretty…. And what a lovely gift.
Got a little bit of embroidery time in today. Hope I can work on christmas ornaments tomorrow. Ginny

We know what a great job CJ does and now Pat Sloan does also!
It's cold here today. It would be a good day to crochet a blanket which would keep you warm while crocheting.
I finished my last two bandana cowls and technically have all my Christmas gifts done for the adults. Now to work on the children's gifts.... those baby sharks. I also did another cup cozy last night because I saw a nice pattern yesterday. These are the ones that go over a take out type cup not a cup with handles.
First I have to work on the Oct and Nov birthday gifts.

Hello Ginny and Ruth - Thanks for your compliments. I'm still excited that Pat Sloan commented on my quilt top Ginny - Hope you were able to work on the Christmas ornaments. Ruth - You've made great progress on your gift items. Hope the baby shark isn't hard to make. It was another nice day here. I went out earlier to do a bit of shopping and it was really more to get my car on the road. I was looking for some of the Pumpkin Spice cereals that come out this time of year and I found Special K and Frosted Mini-Wheats. I love the Special K last year so I bought 3 boxes, and I hope it's as good this year. This afternoon I was able to finish the hand quilting on my hand pieced quilt. I feel like I could probably have quilted more in the border, but I could always go back and do that some day. I'm going to trim it up and get it ready for hand stitching the binding. I was checking to see if I could tell when I made this quilt and it was in 2002, so it's almost 20 years since I finished the piecing! I'll be happy to finally finish this one. Take care everyone
