Welcome to Alcohol Free Is What We Want To Be! .. We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE!
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN? September 5 - October 31
CIRCLE September 5 on the calendar. Now CIRCLE October 31 on the calendar. This is your 8 week AF Halloween challenge. For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself. Organize yourself healthy, organize your grocery shopping, ORGANIZE!
Do you fancy yourself a witch? a ghoul? a ?? How about visualizing yourself as a happier, healthier person? Envision your costume…except it won’t be a costume, it will be you!
Being AF isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a truce and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been lousy so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. If you decide to have a drink, don’t beat yourself up….this is a hard journey! Keep in mind you don’t have to finish the bottle, you don’t have to finish a bag of cookies…you have control…now you have to believe it!
Some of us can’t have “spirits” in the house…that can take a whole lot of self control. There are lots of tricks and ways to avoid A but essentially many of us bring an OCD attitude…..usually defined as obsessive compulsive disorder... to stay AF but for this challenge OCD means….Ongoing Celebration of Discovery! We can discover and celebrate ourselves!! And we don't need alcohol or excessive food to do it!
So what are you going to be for Halloween? A much healthier, happier person sounds like a great plan and it won't be a costume! Great success!

DH & I walked at the lake, the water level looked about the same. I'm not really sure why they drain it, DH said he read somewhere that it has to do with flood control and the winter rain. The ducks may know something is up, we haven't seen any for several days. On the way home, we stopped at Walmart to buy a half whisky barrel to use as a planter in the front, they were on clearance for $20. The plants are 90% mums, they still have some herbs, cabbage, collards, roses, asters, etc. I know at one point last year all they had were pansies and ornamental cabbage. After we got home, we tackled the last section of weed hill by the woods that we've ignored all summer, looks much better. I picked a few green beans and 25 cherry tomatoes. I added our beans to a bag from the grocery store, yummy.
It's gradually getting warmer, but was nice when we weeded yesterday.
Jan- WTG getting steps, blue dot, tracking. You could track your food on Fitbit or MFP until you're back on WW. DS is coming October 22. I'm not sure how much we will see him, he & other DS are attending a music festival. We are planning on going to Indiana for Thanksgiving, unless the pandemic is much worse.
Murphy- Yay for a productive morning. Hope enjoyed your chicken and dumplings.
Cindy- Sorry about the sink in the garage, hope DS can fix it. Has he heard anything more about the job? Sorry about the lost post and the meter cover.
Cathy- WTG healthy, OP eating, tracking. Glad you were able to post.

A lighter version of myself and maybe someone's fairy godmother September 5: 198.8 September 12: 199 September 19: 199 at least holding steady! September 26: 199.4 October 3: October 10: October 17: October 24: October 31/Final weigh in: Happy Halloween! and congrats to your new self! Good morning. I saw one yesterday....Who needs Halloween, I've been wearing a mask and eating candy all year! At least I'm trying to cut back on the candy and junk. Had many temptations yesterday at the store, talked myself out of all of them, helped knowing I had a little bit better choice at home that I could manage the points. I picked up and put back one small cup of ice cream, single serve, 640 calories...yikes. Can't say the scale is moving but at least I feel like I'm trying and being a bit more mindful. Went to the nursery and bought $75 worth of grasses and plants, that's with many of them 1/2 off or on sale. We'll try to get them in today, may need a few more, but then can work the bulbs around them. Primed the shutter, will do the exterior paint today. I think I'm going to stencil or paint a pie cooling on the outside so you know it's the kitchen shutter. We always have to write on the back which window they go on and it wears off. We'll see. Talked to DS last night. He could of had a job at Cedar Sinai but the peds job for GF was ICU and she hasn't done that and didn't feel comfortable. So now they are looking at San Diego, he would be at Scripps at UCSD and she would be at Rady Children's Hospital. Seems like a perfect opportunity to me. Also looks like I will be driving the Prius out there at the end of October. We'll see how it all plays out. Road Trip!! Today is just work around the house, we will have left over BBQ for dinner, we had a yummy Ahi with mango salsa that DH made yesterday! He wants me to make buttermilk pancakes and berries for breakfast, looks like a higher carb day for sure but I just keep saying better that A for now. Hope you all have a great hump day. Jan Amy I will look at the FB tracking, have done that before or MFP. I did get an offer for 3 months free at WW, I have to decide by tomorrow. May just stay on digital if I'm going to miss most of October meetings anyway. That would take me to the new year and I could rejoin with meetings then if I wanted. Hope you get to spend some time with DS, glad he'll get to hang out with his brother tho. yay for finishing weed hill and picking some veggies. Cindy Sorry about the sink and water, strange. Hope DS can fix it. Yay for nicer weather. Will DS help plant the bulbs? Which football teams are you cheering for now? Still a Pats fan? Cathy Glad you checked in. Will they offer booster shots over there or still just trying to get enough doses for everyone's first shots? Are people there resistant or want the shot? Murphy yay for getting your paperwork in order. We are working on that, have things filled out and now it's down to the details about personal effects, everything would go to DS as he's an only, but how much junk will he want, so trying to figure out if some art or would be donated, sold, whatever. Did you ever talk to anyone at Walmart? Hi all.

Hello all! Been piddling around the house this morning. I went and picked up a few groceries for myself this morning. My big order on Monday was just stuff for Motel Ministry. Except for milk, I really don't plan to buy any groceries for October so I can eat as much as I can from the fridge and freezer before my trip. My only plans for today are to vacuum everything really good and I want to try and clean the couch this afternoon before I leave to go to choir practice. That way the cushions can dry while I'm gone.
Amy - yay for still getting produce from your plants! I remember buying a half whiskey barrel years ago and you could tell from the smell that it really had been used for whiskey! I never had plants grow as well as those did so I guess it was good fertilizer!
Jan - WTG for resisting the goodies while you were shopping! I think that is one of the biggest benefits for me doing grocery pickup! If I don't see tempting stuff I'm not as likely to give in to temptations! The funny thing is that I usually do have a box of Oreo cookies around. But I can have one or two and then leave them alone till the next day! I love them but I just don't want more than one or two a day. Salty stuff is another story! Keep me away from nuts or crackers!
Cindy - sure hope that DS is able to get the sink fixed.
Cathy - I wondered what people were thinking about getting the shots there as well.
I have been looking through my closet this morning seeing if there is anything I truly "need" to fill in. I could use a medium blue shirt but I'm pretty much covered on all other colors. I found some thinner tunic sweaters on Amazon that will go well with jeans or with nicer pants. So I'm pretty well set. I've got a list of clothes to take to the beach but will keep an eye on the weather closer to the trip to see what I'll take. Average temps are usually in the low 70's in November so it should be nice! Hope everyone has a great Weds! Murphy

Hi again. Just got back from a nice walk at the park, went over while waiting for the paint to dry on one side of the shutter. I also rejoined WW, figured 3 months free would get me to the new year, if I'd get my act together I could actually be close to goal with some focus. We'll see. I retook the questionnaire and they said I should do green. I will try it for a bit but it's such a head game, hurts me to track chicken, eggs, corn etc and now see points for them!! Maybe I need that wake up, too many free foods I was over indulging in. This is the old program that I actually lost my weight on and I haven't done much with over a year or two of Blue. Still going to eat our BBQ for dinner and use the points, will plan meals a bit more accordingly the rest of the week to try to work into the new mindset. No other news, maybe time for some knitting or reading. Have a good evening all. Jan

It was nice to be with friends but doubt I will continue to meet with them if/when they decide to play indoors.
I am not sure who is and is not interested in getting vaccinations or if there are pro/con camps. I know that some of my husband's family has chosen NOT to get vaccinated but most have. My friends have all gotten vaccinated and would get boosters if they were available, probably. I am not sure what the availability is like if people want to get vaccinations...know they were short for awhile and not importing.
