Hi Ginny, thanks for getting us off to a new week. It was a busy day yesterday. Church in the a.m. then in the afternoon DS and I went to Home Depot and Sam's Club. I did have a short nap between church and my shopping trip. Home Depot was very busy, people buying gardening supplies and plants and that's what we were doing.
In the evening I worked on my afghan and got quite a bit done. I think it is about 40" long now and I want it at least 50" but probably longer. Then I will have to do a border. This afternoon I am off to a meeting at church. Hopefully I can do some more crocheting this evening.
Ginny that will be exciting to go to the BIG QUILT show and what a nice Christmas gift.
Have a great day everyone. I will try to check back later.

Thanks for getting us started for another week, Ginny. It does sound like your week will be very busy. I hope you were able to get all the things done that you needed done for your teaching on Wed. I loved the teaching part of my job.
I ended up getting a lot done yesterday. I did the weaving in of ends on the last three pairs of fingerless gloves I made, then did the plant thing, cooking and cleaning and was then able to sit and crochet and got a lot of my scarf done. I think dgd is going to like it and I'll make her a pair of fingerless gloves in the same stitching pattern. I just have to modify the pattern to fit on the back of the hand which I think will work out well. The designer calls for a finer yarn but I used worsted weight...Premier's sweet roll.. so had to adjust for that already but as I was crocheting I was thinking about how great this pattern with the shells and cross stitches would look in a very fine yarn and small hook. It would make a very elegant looking wrap. It's from a scarf pattern but I can see this particular combo of stitches used for many things and one thing I'm going to make with it is a baby blanket. I'll make several in this pattern with baby yarn and also heavier yarn.Since my dgd's baby will be born in early August she will need a lighter blanket then warmer ones for winter. Then there will be ones that I donate.I think I mentioned that I do have several blankets made already just waiting for edging. I have so many projects in mind that I have to make a list to keep from forgetting what I want to make soon and what I can put off till later. In using this Sweet Roll yarn I find that it's a nice thicker ww and kind of spongy and has a nice feel so, even though I have a room full of yarn already I may have to buy some more of this. It's a nice big roll and I got it at a good price. It will make nice baby blankets as well as many other things. I want to get some in the color for youngest dgd's shawl she requested. She wants stripes and this, while it doesn't make actual stripes, does make color blocks.
Two of the dgds want doll slings. I guess they saw women carrying babies in slings and want to do that with their dolls so I'll get to that soon too.Won't take long.
And Ginny, I saw a pattern for the prettiest mittens. Let me know if you want the link. I think you're dgd would love them
WEll I do hope you all have a very wonderful day and get time to do something relaxing for yourself.

Meg, we must have been typing at the same time. Looks like we both got in a lot of crocheting time and it sounds like your afgan is coming right along. I'm sure those kind of stores here are very busy too with people thinking spring is here but this Fri and Sat both we're predicted to get 5-8 inches of SNOW after all this nice weather. I haven't been to Sam's club in years. We used to go there quite often and got some great deals there but the prices started to increase and the good deals decrease so we just didn't bother to renew our membership. I did buy some items from there on the internet. They cost a little more if you're not a member but only $1 or so and for us that never adds up to what a yearly membership costs. Some people buy things in bulk there and think they're getting a good deal when they really aren't.For instance I know a lot of ppl buy tp there. Well in the grocery stores they often have sales on it and it comes out way cheaper than Sam's so I stock up then. A lot of people here live in very rural areas with no access to stores so they come in and stock up there so for them it works and apparently it works for you but it no longer works for meI did love the floats and hot dogs they sold in their snack counter though They gave you enough ice cream in the cup for 3 or 4 people and the beverage section was where you help yourself so you could have a ton of float if you wanted. Now your commissary I'd love to be able to go to. I've been to commissaries on post and base with ds and ddil and they have great prices.I never saw that great of prices in the BX and PX i went to with them but the commissary was great. That was quite a few years ago now though. He's out of the Army now and I don't think they ever go there anymore. It's not all that close to their home

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I hope your busy week goes well and you get to some embroidery time later this week. Meg - Sounds like it won't be long before you finish your afghan. Ruth - You should buy that yarn that you like while you can. You know if you go back to look for it later it will be gone! I hope you have luck with your zucchini this year. My father always had success with yellow squash - that stuff multiplied like rabbits Phyl - Hope you are doing well. I had recently bought a charm pack of this fabric and used white fabric for the small pieces: www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/67954/maywood-studio/maywood-studio/berries-blossoms-a-kims-cause-collection-25-mini-charm-packSo today I used this tutorial to make a small quilt top (measures 27x43). I did do a few things differently: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtLL4liuW8o1. I didn’t put the white sashing between the rows and I haven’t put any borders on yet 2. Instead of cutting smaller pieces of the white fabric I cut WOF strips of the white fabric in 2 ½ inch strips. Then I sewed the charms onto the strips and cut them apart. Then I cut each 5 inch piece into half (2 ½ inch pieces) and then pressed. It’s a cute little quilt and would make a nice baby quilt. Adding sashing and borders could bring it up to a lap size. It was pretty easy and quick to make.

Good evening!
Meg, this V stitch afghan sounds incredible and will be so pretty when you are done! YEs indeed Home Depot this time of year is a zoo with people trying to get all their spring plants in. I hope you were able to get the plants you wanted. Were you looking for flowers or vegetable plants or both?
Ruth, please do provide me with the link for the mittens. I can make a charming set for DGD of a hat and mittens. You have me smiling reading that you are not going to buy- but then are going to buy more yarn. If you have found a great yarn that is very workable, then I do think it's a good idea to get some! Love your idea of using a finer yarn to make the baby afghan. Of course that means you have to make 2 afghans for the little one- ha ha ha- not a hardship for you! I too agree that buying at SAMS is not always a bargain- and yes for TP- the local store is much cheaper when they have their sale.
CJ- that fabric is precious and makes a lovely baby quilt! Did the quilt take just one charm pack? Yes, my Dad's experience with squash (for us it was zucchini) was that the stuff grew like a weed. Just like your dad's experience with yellow squash. We once had zucchini growing up a pine tree 15 feet in the air and onto the roof of the house.
Long day.....think I am going to sit down with my embroidery for a little while.
Have a great night! Phyl - hope you had a good day Ginny

Ginny, I didn't notice before but these mittens are in women's size I did leave a message and ask if she had it in children's size but I would guess she doesn't. I'm going to work on these before winter...and in fact soon I think...and see if I can adjust the pattern for different sizes. But here's the link. I love how she has the thumb. So many mitten patterns have a really terrible looking thumb www.whistleandivy.com/2017/02/crochet-color-block-mittens.htmlCJ, I'm definitely going to go and look at that quilt. And yes, the size you mentioned would be perfect for a baby quilt. And you sure got a lot done today. Yes almost everyone I know who tries to grow zucchini ends up with a huge overabundance of them...everyone but me. well I found another that I think would be good for children but she says this is for ages 7-10 and I think your dgd is younger than that but I think you could just make the hand part shorter. oombawkadesigncrochet.com/2017/01/easy-on-mittens-for-the-family.htmlAs I mentioned, though, I'm going to work on those other ones and see how I can adjust to have it fit a child. Of course I don't have small children to try it on so will have to go by measurements I find online. I'd love to make these in several sizes and this last pattern of course could be made to look like the color block ones by just using different colors in that same way.

I got my scarf done! I even have the ends weaved in. It's 60 inches so I think that's long enough. I altered the edging the pattern designer suggested and I have to say mine looks better. She had too many sc's in her chain three spaces and it crowed the picot type thing. There were supposed to be 2sc, chain 3, 2dc in each ch 3 space. It made it crowded so the picot type things were bent too much.
Ok now the blanket

Good Morning!
Ruth, congrats on getting the scarf done! I do agree that sometimes simpler is better and IMO some designers seem to go overboard with fussiness, just becasue they can. It sounds to me like you simplified a project and it looks stunning! Thanks for sharing the link for the mittens. I will check it out later on when I get home. It's an inspiration to me, as I always figured that mittens had to be knitted. The only issue I have is that DD is so busy that I am afraid that hand made mittens might not be kept track of too well. I know for this past winter I went to Dollar Tree and bought 2 pairs of their kids mittens for DGD and DGS (each got 2 pair) knowing how chaotic it gets with kids and their stuff. Hi to Phyl, CJ and Meg. Have a great morning. (Yes I did embroider for a few minutes last night) Ginny

Good morning Ginny, CJ, Phyl, and Meg.
Ginny, yes mittens do have a tendency to disappear. Getting them at the dollar store is a great idea. Having a lot of them in a mitten/hat holder by the door is something I've seen.
Woke up to snow on the ground this morning. Snow was predicted for Thur and Fri or maybe it's Fri and Sat but not today. For those days it says 5-8 inches. Today we have just about an inch. Kinda cold though, in 30's so most of the day I'll spend crocheting on this baby blanket. Before that I want to sort out my clothing because they're all too large...the ones I have out...and I have to dig out my smaller ones and see if I need to buy some more but I doubt it. I have a lot of smaller ones I think but I don't think I'll fit into the smallest yet but I'll try them on and see which size will be the current size for me to wear.
I don't think this blanket will take me long. I don't want to make it too big. Then I'll check my list to see what's next.
See you all later and please all have a great day

Hello Ginny, Ruth. cj & Phyl. It's 12 noon and I am sleepy. I did get up early this morning and took Devin to school. I stayed up late last evening working on my afghan and I had a good audio book to listen to. The afghan is about 5o" now so I should have it finished soon.
Ruth, I get most of my groceries at the Commissary but I have noticed that some of the prices at Wal Mart are about the same, I don't shop a lot at Sam's but some times we shop there but we don't buy much food there. You are a very busy lady, you have so many projects going. Your family are blessed to have you as Mom and grandma. I can't believe you are still getting snow. I hope it doesn't last too long. Having to look for smaller clothes is a good problem. I need to get rid of a lot of the clothes I have in my closet. I am expecting an order from Blair for Janet & myself.
Ginny, we don't grow a lot of vegetables. Last year we made some boxes for Devin to try and grow some vegetables and we will do that again this year. The strawberry plants we started last year are growing well and have quite a few strawberries right now. Our azalea bush died so we bought another one. I hope your embroidery is going well. I am sure it will be very pretty. My V stitch afghan is getting really big to work but I will get it finished soon. It is very colorful. If I do another one I may not use as many colors.
cj, When you finish your quilts what do you do with them?
Phyl, I hope all is well with you.
I think I will go and take a nap while no one is home but me.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - The quilt I made only used one charm pack and I think the tutorial only used one pack too. The quilt would be larger with the sashing and borders added, but with just the one charm pack and the 2 1/2 strips it's a nice baby blanket size. Hope you got some embroidering done. Ruth - I'm glad you like the fabric and quilt. It's a pretty little quilt, nice for a little girl. I really like those Color Block Mittens. I'm glad you've made so much progress with your projects. I hope you don't get too much snow. It's supposed to be up in the 80 degree mark here later this week! Meg - How nice to have strawberries already. I've seen some of the farms around here saying their berries are getting ready. I'm glad you got more done on your afghan and enjoyed listening to your book. Phyl - Hope you are doing well. I didn't get any crafting done today since I was "working" on my air conditioner problems. I went to Home Depot and bought a window unit to use in my bedroom. Now I just have to see if I can get the broken one out of the window to put the new one in. If I can't then I'll just put it in the window next to where the broken one is and deal with that later. I also cleaned the filter and inside of the air conditioner that is downstairs. This is the one that wasn't blowing out cold air last year. I'm hoping the good cleaning might help. If not, I don't what I'm going to do to get that one replaced. It's big and heavy and I know I'll need help. These are the times when I miss having younger men in the family. My brothers are older and have health issues and I wouldn't ask them to help. And it's difficult to find good companies that will help with things like this. I do have two quilt shows later this week to look forward to, so that's a good thing Take care everyone!

Meg, the last time I was in a commissary was way back in probably 06 so that was a long time ago and things I'm sure have changed there as they have everywhere else. Speaking of strawberries, my dh and I were talking just the other day about when we had the vacation home in Arkansas and bought a whole bunch of strawberry plants and planted them there. Out of all of them only one survived. Guess even though it's the south it's not the place for strawberries.
So Meg, do you notice a difference in your tiredness level since you got the iron infusions?
I'm happy as can be. I dug out all my too big clothes and got out the next size...turned out to be also too big. So I went down to the next two and they both fit!!! Bigger ones are a little loose but will work fine esp for just around the house. I'm definitely keeping up my healthy eating and exercise because, even though there's some of my largest that I never wore, I don't want to have to wear them again. I'm still not going to get rid of them though.I don't think anyway. I'll have to think about that because people could use them. And that was all pants. Now I have to go thru shirts. I have way too many clothes.
Meg, another friend has mentioned Blair to me.She showed me a pic of a nice sweater she got from them. I remember their ads coming in the Sunday paper and maybe in the mail but I don't think I've ever bought from them. When I lived in western NY a lot of people from there would travel down to Blair to buy clothing because there was no tax on clothing in Pa. I don't know if they still do or not.
I don't buy too many food items at Walmart. They seem to have the highest prices in town esp on meat but there are a couple things that I always get there or usually get there anyway. TEabags is one of them. They difintely have the best price on tea bags and they sell Red Rose which is my favorite in reg flavor tea and the other stores don't sell it.
Ok back to work.
