CJ we posted within seconds of each other....I agree, I am more a traditional quilt person. Batiks are pretty....but I do like traditional patterns. WHat is the color scheme of the churn dash quilt? Glad you had a good time and now have time to rest up till June's quilt shows! Ginny

CJ, I'm sorry to hear the quilt show was kind of a disappointment today. Won't be long until the three in June. I'll take some of your hot weather in exchange for some of this. It's about 32 here right now and still snowing. I wonder what it will be like on Monday when we plan on going out to take care of errands. If it's not good weather we'll just wait till another day but there are a couple things on sale that we'd like to get.I'm glad you got the old quilt top. Its something special to have for sure
Meg, happy birthday to Devin...again I can't believe he's 9 already.
Ginny, have a relaxing evening with embroidering. I haven't weaved in ends yet but will before the day is over.

Good morning! I would much rather be sleeping but DD is home for the weekend, and I got up to make her breakfast. (She is going out for the day with friends).
Ruth did you get much snow? I bet it must feel funny to have seedlings growing in the house for a summer garden and have 32 degree weather. Is this abnormal for your weather to be this cold this late? Perhaps those sales that you want to catch will run all week- and then postponing a day would not matter so much. Were you able to finish weaving in the ends of the afghan? It sounds so pretty.
Think I am getting some yard work in today. Supposed to be pretty warm later on (yuck). I do promise not to complain during the summer when it's hot...cool weather is much more up my alley.
Have a great day! Ginny

Ginny, yes it's normal here for us to have cold and snow well into May. And go ahead and complain about the heat. I'll enjoy it at first but it does get too hot even with our extremely low humidity.
It's great that your dd is home for the weekend. They come home though and spend it with friends but that's ok.We at least get to see them for a few minutes at least. Well mine are past that point now but I remember the days.
The last day of that sale is Monday so if I want the things I'll have to go then but I can live without them

Well Ruth, I do hope that you can get out to pick up those sale items! A few stores (Kohls being one of them) I have heard will honor the sale for an extra day or so if inclement weather was involved. Did you get much crafting done (or any ) today? What was your snow total?
After breakfast I did indeed head out to garden. My intent was to clean up the back- so that I could move a piece of the white lilac and the purple lilac- plus frame both with some ornamental grass. I thought it would look nice along the properly line. What happened was DH had planted some bamboo several years ago in that area. Then it became. Overgrown, so he THINKS he took it out. Ha ha ha. This stuff has an insanely invasive root system and I spent the. Whole time wrenching out stumps and roots. A boatload of work and I am not done. For sure I will be achy tomorrow. Then we went to BJ's- got what we needed there. After that, we headed over to my MIL's to remove her clothes, which I put in the donation box at my church. My sister in law seems incapable of doing much-and I refuse to have anything to do with my MIL's estate Mother's Day weekend. Last year was my first Mother's Day with out my mom, and my sister in law- in a completely insensitive move, asked that we have my MIL for that day, forgetting or not caring that it might be a tough day for me. Mother's Day weekend is just before the house closing......and I want to be nowhere near that house.
I did get some embroidery in last night- the first butterfly is almost done!
Hope everyone has enjoyed their day and got some crafting time in. Ginny

Well Ginny, it did warm up today to about 45 or so so the snow all melted so going out is not going to be a problem. It's the grocery store I meant. They had a good sale on Kefir which I have on my oatmeal every day so I wanted to get some. It was a huge sale but we'll see if we end up going or not.
Yes it does sound like your sil is not any help at all and also insenstive. No I hope you stick to your guns and don't go there on Mother's day weekend. They need to get there and do their share which should be doing more than you do.She is the daughter after all.But some people are just like that...leave everything to others
I didn't know that bamboo would even grow there but it sounds like it's trying to take over your yard. It sure does sound like a lot of work. We're planning on getting rid of our lilac bush. It's right in a space we want to use for something else. We do have other bushes but they're a different kind of lilac and don't always bloom. If it wouldn't cause ww3 I'd get rid of all those and get some new bushes to put in that space too. I did cut a lot of them way down last year. They're old and have bare spots so I cut out all the deadwood. We'll see if that helps any when everything starts to grow better for the year. THere are also sand cherry trees in that spot and I'd like them to be gone too. They haven't bloomed in years.
Yes I did get some crafting done. Part of my crafting was looking at my patterns then from there looking at a blog where a person that commented on the shawl pattern said she had pictures of the finished product she made from the pattern. It's actually a quilting blog but she apparently does knitting and crocheting too and the quilts there are just amazingly beautiful.
After that I started the shawl for the youngest dgd who is 5. She said she wanted stripes and wanted pink, yellow and purple. So I'm making it with those colors and white between the rows of each color stripe. I know I've said it before about patterns I've started then had trouble, but this is very easy and shoujldn't take long. The designer of the pattern sold it to All Free CRochet who then added info on how wide to make it for various ages so that's really helpful to me.
After that I'm going to make some booties. I know most people don't even use booties but they're just so cute I have to at least make some. I hate my feet being cold and I hate to think of little babies' feet being cold. Of course most people do use those jammies that have feet so guess it's not an issue but I'm going to do it anyway.
Have a good evening embroidering
Good evening also to Meg, CJ, and Phyl

Good evening! Ruth , I think it's a great idea to make booties! A little ones circulation is not 100% and a nice pair of booties would be nice! My pastors wife just made booties for herself. So glad it warmed up for you today and I hope you' will be able to get to the store Monday. The bright and happy colors in Dgds shawl sound so pretty! Bet it looks great! Hi to meg Phyl and CJ! Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all enjoying your weekend Ginny - Sounds like you got a lot of work done in your yard. I love all the ornamental grasses they are so pretty and easy to maintain. I hope that you will keep Mother's Day to yourself. That holiday bothered me for many years after my mother died, it takes a long time not to feel the loss. Ruth - Hope your weather is good for your errands tomorrow. You can have my heat too, I hate it! Yesterday, when it was over 90 degrees here I told myself that if I move, I need to move north, not south LOL. Hope you are enjoying your crocheting too. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are well. I went to a Celtic Festival yesterday and had a good time. I need to get up to my sewing room today and do some organizing of the things I bought at the shows the last 2 days. I'd like to get my weekly block done, but I don't know if I will - might have to save it for next week. Take care everyone!

Even though I like when the warm weather comes each year I couldn't live where it's hot and humid all the time.
Anyway Happy Sunday. I hope you are all having a good day. So far I haven't got any crafting done. I've been visiting with dh and the shawl being that it's made with many colors is something I can't easily carry around from one part of the house to another.
CJ, I started to organize my craft room yesterday but didn't get far. I'll work on that today too

Happy Sunday everyone, I just lost my post. I haven't done any crafting since Friday. At the moment my eyes are very irritated and the Dr. gave me some prescription eye drops. I will probably do some crocheting this afternoon. I went to church this morning and just got home.
Ginny, I hope you have had an enjoyable weekend with your DD. I think you asked me what colors I am using for my b/blanket. I am using Lion Brand Pound of Love. Colors pink, white & pastel green. I am doing rows of V stitch. I don't have a pattern. Though Lion Brand does have a pattern which is Pattern # 70118AD.
cj, I wish I could have gone to the Celtic fair with you. I would have enjoyed that.
Someone mentioned booties. I have a very old pattern that I used for my kids & grand kids. I also have a pattern for adult sizes and I have knit so many pr. that I don't remember how many. I knit them for the church craft faire when we had it and never knit a pr. for myself so a few months ago I knit a pr. for me and I love them so will make myself another pr.
Ruth, I still think that babies need some warm booties. I see so many babies with bare feet when the weather is cold. I do knit baby booties sometimes to go with the b/blankets that I donate.
Phyl, are you in your playroom? I wish I could come and play with you.
I wish you all a great Sunday and I hope you can relax and do your favorite thing.

Meg, you actually gave me the pattern for the booties that are knitted but it had instructions to pick up stitches and I don't know how to do that. I think it's a great idea to make and donate booties with the blankets. Maybe then the mothers will use them. Yes it makes me feels so bad when I see babies with bare feet when it's cold. I see many pics of both my dggs and they have hardly any clothing on ...either just a onesie or even just a diaper. I guess they keep it warm in their homes... I hope so...or the babies are cold. How was Devin's bday party?
Well I had some Lion Brand chenille yarn and some suede. I tried using the chenille and it was very hard to work with and it broke easily. I thought maybe the suede would be the same so I was just going to donate both. Well then I saw the suede on etsy and people were selling it for a lot because it's a discontinued yarn. I told my dh about that and he asked to see it and he liked it so he wanted to know if I could make him a hat and scarf with it. So I made several swatches to show him the difference in appearance of knit vs crochet and also with different size needles. He likes knit the best so I started the scarf knitting the stockinette stitch. I think with the nice texture of this yarn the plain stockinette is the best choce. I've made several rows and it really looks nice. of course he doesn't need the scarf till fall but it's a nice thing to have just sitting around so that I can pick it up at odd times when watching tv or whatever. The shawl I'm working on isn't easy to transport around the house with all the colors. This I can take with me when we go out and have to wait in line.I'm still donating the chenille because I don't like it but I have a whole bunch of this suede in various colors so now that I know it works so well I'll make things for the kids and grands with it.
Back to work

Happy Sunday!
Nice to see everyone here- I hope Phyl has had a good weekend and that she can check in soon.
Ruth, I do love that your husband encourages you to craft so much. I have not worked with either the chenille or the suede. Think I have some of the suede leftover from my mom. It does sound as though you have the secret to working with the suede- I am sure that the hat and scarf will come out great. Totally agree that many babies are underdressed, my own grandchildren included. Booties are a wonderful thing- and will keep little feet warm.
Meg, I will pray that your eyes calm down and that the irritation goes away. Hope that you feel good enough to get some crafting in! Thanks for giving me the colors you are working on for the v stitch afghan. It sounds pretty in those colors.
CJ- did you enjoy the Celtic festival? Glad that today you were able to enjoy looking over the goodies you got at the quilt shows!
I slept poorly last night... It's been a long day and I. Cannot believe I have to go back to work tomorrow.
Have a great night! See ya tomorrow. Ginny

I had a nap this afternoon so I hope I can sleep tonight.
Ruth, I didn't go to Devin's b/party, I wasn't invited. Neither was my DS who is her father. The party was at a bouncy place and kids from his class at schook were invited. Instead of going to the party I went to see the Dr. and got a prescription for my eyes so I probably would not have gone to the party even if I had been invited. The Dr. wants to check my eyes during the week. Devin did have fun over the weekend. He went to church with me this morning. I have never knit with suede let us know how it turns out. I hope your DH liked the scarf& hat when you get them finished.
Ginny, sorry you didn't sleep well last night and I hope you can make up for it tonight. I should be able to do some crocheting tonight.
DS and I went out to dinner at Sizzlers last night. I was hungry when I ordered and I ate way too much. So today I am eating lite.
I wish you all a good evening and sleep well.

Meg, I'm glad Devin had a good time but it was rude of your dgd not to invite you and your ds esp since you and your ds are very close to Devin and share (at least) his upbringing. I wouldn't have wanted to go to a kid party but I would be insulted if I wasn't invited. A lot of young people are so thoughtless these days.Maybe she thought you wouldn't like all the noise but she could have asked
The LIon Brand suede isn't make of suede at all. It's 100% polyester so I don't know why they call it suede except that I guess it's supposed to look like suede
Are the eye drops helping. Are your eyes irritated because of the injections?
We used to go to a Sizzler when we lived back in western Ny but there are none here. I really liked that place. And every once in awhile we have to eat more than usual but do what you're doing, Meg. EAt lite the next day.
CJ, I'm not sure what a batik is.
