Welcome to Alcohol Free Is What We Want To Be! .. We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE!
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN? September 5 - October 31
CIRCLE September 5 on the calendar. Now CIRCLE October 31 on the calendar. This is your 8 week AF Halloween challenge. For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself. Organize yourself healthy, organize your grocery shopping, ORGANIZE!
Do you fancy yourself a witch? a ghoul? a ?? How about visualizing yourself as a happier, healthier person? Envision your costumeā¦except it wonāt be a costume, it will be you!
Being AF isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a truce and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been lousy so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. If you decide to have a drink, donāt beat yourself upā¦.this is a hard journey! Keep in mind you donāt have to finish the bottle, you donāt have to finish a bag of cookiesā¦you have controlā¦now you have to believe it!
Some of us canāt have āspiritsā in the houseā¦that can take a whole lot of self control. There are lots of tricks and ways to avoid A but essentially many of us bring an OCD attitudeā¦..usually defined as obsessive compulsive disorder... to stay AF but for this challenge OCD meansā¦.Ongoing Celebration of Discovery! We can discover and celebrate ourselves!! And we don't need alcohol or excessive food to do it!
So what are you going to be for Halloween? A much healthier, happier person sounds like a great plan and it won't be a costume! Great success!

We walked at the lake yesterday, the level looked the same. We stopped at Home Depot on the way home for a bag of dirt for the whisky barrel, they've put their pansies out, but I think it's still a little too warm to plant them. When the time comes, I may make a trip to Grower's Outlet, I hear the selection is great and prices low. My projects for the day were to clean the basement windows and sweep the floor. Annie was excited for the company and did not freak out when I used the vacuum attachment to get the bugs, dirt, cat hair out of the window sills. I spent most of the afternoon on the couch, but did manage to get my 250 steps every hour except for one, when I was apparently napping.
It's in the low 60's and foggy this morning but is supposed to get back in the 80's again this afternoon.
Jan- WTG getting your steps (so close to 10,000!), blue dot, avoiding temptation at the store, rejoining WW. Glad you slept better and got lots of plants at 1/2 off or discounted. The pie on the shutter sounds cute. Hope it works out for DS & GF to go to San Diego next.
Murphy- WTG getting your groceries and doing household chores, going through your closet.
Cathy- WTG tracking, staying positive. Glad you are still able to get together with your friends.

Good morning! I've been doing a bit of work in the garage this morning. Just wanted to do a inventory of the food I've set aside to take on the trip to make sure I'm not forgetting anything that I am pretty sure I will use. I'll be going to church in a little while. Today is the monthly Senior luncheon and I'm helping serve. No other big plans for the day though. I might stop by Walmart on my way home if I'm not to exhausted and try to talk with the manager. I'll check back after I get home. Everyone have a great morning! Murphy

Good Morning All!
Our internet went out last night...no rhyme or reason. This morning I woke up to the sirens of fire trucks/ambulances/police cruisers. Not sure where the accident was but for the amount of manpower it must be bad. We have had some horrific accidents in the area with fatalities.
Went out yesterday to Lowe's to get some plumbing stuff. They didn't have the size needed for the regulator but DS thinks he can clean up the old one. I would rather have a new one if possible. Will probably check to see if another place has one. Walked through the garden center and they had some mums 50% off. They had other plants but wasn't sure where I would put them if I purchased them.
Will be back later...need caffeine before I can get the day started.
Hugs, Cindy

Good morning all. Going to head to knitting in a bit. Had a good day yesterday, finished my painting, will try drawing on the pie this afternoon. DH wants some helps putting the "fabric" covers over his trunk board liners this afternoon too so will keep busy. He said he'd plant the plants I bought while I'm at knitting if I'll help him cut and glue this afternoon. Fair deal. Can't believe my brain has already gone into overdrive about driving to California in a few weeks. Of course it goes through every roadblock in the middle of the night. Glad to be AF, and at least can work through it and go back to sleep eventually. I know it's all made up in my head, once I start on the journey, it just goes along, will work to think through the things I can control, and let go of the rest. My Medicare starts tomorrow and I need to find a new Dr. The last 2 I've had here have either retired or moved!! Starting from scratch is no fun but want to start building some kind of relationship so I can figure out if a hip replacement is in my spring plans. Maybe ask some of the ladies today at knitting for some ideas. Need to get moving. Will check in later. Jan
Amy Sounds like you got the things done on your list. What do you plan to put in the barrel, or did I miss that? We had some in California and they would get so dried out the metal rings would fall down and the slats would fall apart. You just need to make sure you keep the wood wet, at least there you will get some natural rain to help. Hope you can get in a nap today if needed.
Murphy Have fun serving at the Senior Center. have you ever looked to see what kind of programs or trips they do there? Ours does lots of trips to the theater, ball games, fall color drives etc. Hope you can get together with the manager at some point and sort out your ministry orders.
Cathy Glad you got to see friends. yay for not using up all your weeklies ha ha

Hi girls. Yesterday was WI and I was up .6. I was happy it wasnāt more. Itās a new week, and yesterday I had a blue dot. Tuesday I did my stretching class in the pool, along with 30 minutes of water walking and peddling on a noodle in the deep end. I was exhausted! Yesterday was 30 minutes of line dance. Once we got to the fast ones, I was out of breath and sweating! š Itās been a long time since I could say that! Today is PT and a visit to the funeral home. I think Iāll walk around the track and see how that goes. Tomorrow we plan on trying a bike ride at a local trail. Iām trying one thing at a time to see how it goes. Arenāt you proud of me? Lol
DSIL has Covid. He got the J&J vaccine. DD says heās starting to feel better. He had a rash, Chills and sweats, but no fever, and chest pressure. DD &Rylee are getting tested today. They have no symptoms. DD is hoping to get Rylee back in daycare next week. She is working from home, and of course wonāt let me watch Rylee. Nobody wants to give Grandma Covid.
I have to make some calls, and donāt want to lose this post! My plan is to come back for personals!

Hi friends. Itās been a rough few days. My nephew, my DBās handicapped son, has been in the hospital for 2 weeks or so. He stopped eating and is having seizures. They had to put a G tube in and now switching him to another hospital that can help with the seizures. He aspirated again. A friend of mine son was in a plane crash, a small plane. He was presumed dead, this was in WI. She was notified of this at work by 2 policemen. The FAA told her to stay in IL. Her sister flew in from FL and drove her and DH to WI, they are now confirmed dead. The plane went down in a swamp, itās been 2 days and they still havenāt gotten the plane out much less her son. So incredibly heartbreaking. Now Iām with DH at Dianeās place. Sheās moving to independent living with a full time caregiver. The stuff she has is sinful, literally. Boxes upon boxes of unopened things. Clothes upon clothes unopened. Itās really disgusting.
I need to go. Love you all

Hi all - just wanted to touch base. The Senior luncheon at church went well but I've just been exhausted. I didn't get home until almost 2:00. I've been on the couch since then. I'm just too tired to catch up on personals but wanted you to know I'm thinking of all of you. Carole - I'm so sorry for your friend. How tragic! I will catch up in the morning. Murphy

Hi Everyone!
We are having a nice rainstorm. Glad I held off watering the plants. DS and friend are at the State Fair so hope she likes the indoor auto show. Not ready to call her a GF. She is on a student visa from India. She is working on her master's. Her parents are very disappointed in her and have found someone for her to marry. She is 29 and per them, she should have a husband and children, stop the nonsense and come home.
DS has done the interviews, passed the background check and he has received a verbal offer but so far nothing in writing. They did ask if he would move to Louisiana....aaah no but the verbal offer was for here. Hopefully he will hear soon. I know he gets discouraged.
Amy, love the TOTD and it so fits for me. Glad that Annie was excited to have entertainment/company. I love pansies and am going to try them in the window boxes when it gets cooler. Hopefully the grasshoppers will leave them alone.
Jan, can understand your brain going into overdrive about the trip to California. I usually "cross bridges before I get to them" but it has saved me a few headaches and of course loss sleep. Hope one of your knitting friends has suggestions for a doctor. Welcome to the golden years of medicare! You have a great senior center. Our local one basically makes sure the seniors get fed...serve dessert first. How is your brother doing? Prayers for your SIL.
Murphy, glad the senior luncheon went well. Did you get any leftovers? Hope you are less exhausted.
GG, so glad that you are back to your activities! I'm sorry that DSIL has COVID. Glad that DD and Rylee tested negative!
Carole, so sorry to hear what your nephew is going through. My heart aches for your friend. Does Diane want to keep everything? DH's stepmother bought constantly from QVC and it was overwhelming. Hugs!
Cathy, glad you were able to see your friends but understand that you may chose not to when being inside. When I went to Lowe's there was a sign that you had to wear a mask and if you didn't have one, pick one up at Customer Service. The Lowe's closest to my home does not require masks. I always one with me but I still find it hard to breath when wearing one.
Hugs to all, Cindy
