Welcome to Alcohol Free Is What We Want To Be! .. We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE!
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN? September 5 - October 31
CIRCLE September 5 on the calendar. Now CIRCLE October 31 on the calendar. This is your 8 week AF Halloween challenge. For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself. Organize yourself healthy, organize your grocery shopping, ORGANIZE!
Do you fancy yourself a witch? a ghoul? a ?? How about visualizing yourself as a happier, healthier person? Envision your costumeā¦except it wonāt be a costume, it will be you!
Being AF isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a truce and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been lousy so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. If you decide to have a drink, donāt beat yourself upā¦.this is a hard journey! Keep in mind you donāt have to finish the bottle, you donāt have to finish a bag of cookiesā¦you have controlā¦now you have to believe it!
Some of us canāt have āspiritsā in the houseā¦that can take a whole lot of self control. There are lots of tricks and ways to avoid A but essentially many of us bring an OCD attitudeā¦..usually defined as obsessive compulsive disorder... to stay AF but for this challenge OCD meansā¦.Ongoing Celebration of Discovery! We can discover and celebrate ourselves!! And we don't need alcohol or excessive food to do it!
So what are you going to be for Halloween? A much healthier, happier person sounds like a great plan and it won't be a costume! Great success!

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit!
DH & I walked at the lake yesterday, ran into a couple that were walking their boat down to the lake. The husband said they don't drain this lake, hopefully he's right, although the water level is definitely down. Starting to see some fall color, always makes me happy. When we got home I got busy on my project of cleaning and conditioning the kitchen cabinets with orange oil. This involved getting on the floor to do the lowers, scooting on my butt to get all around the island. I was pretty stiff when I got up, but happy that I was able to spend that much time on the floor and actually get up, LOL. I got a lot of FP for the day, probably from moving my arms doing the cabinets. Talked to eldest DS, he's planning on coming on Tuesday before the music festival on the weekend, so we'll get to spend some time with him.
I saw one hummingbird yesterday. I guess I'll keep the feeder out until they stop coming. It's starting out warmer today, upper 60's, but is supposed to be another beautiful day.
Murphy- WTG working in your garage and serving at the senior center. Sorry you're so tired.
Cindy- Sorry your internet was down. Glad you got a nice rainstorm, hope DS & friend enjoyed the state fair & the job is confirmed soon. I've been surprised about how comfortable the KN95 masks are.
Jan- WTG getting your steps, blue dot. Sorry worry over the trip disturbed your sleep and you have to find a new doctor. Hopefully the knitting ladies had suggestions. Yay for DH helping with the planting, hope his project went well. Thanks for the tip on the whisky barrel, I'm planning on putting pansies in it when it gets a little cooler.
GG- WTG for the blue dot, that was a lot of activity with the water class, line dancing, PT. Congrats for getting discharged from PT. So sorry DSIL has Covid, hope his symptoms remain mild.
Carole- I'm so sorry your nephew is not doing well and your friend's son was killed in the plane crash. GL with Diane's move.
Cathy- WTG for healthy OP eating, tracking. Sorry the scale is not cooperating.

Good morning! I've been up since 4:30 but I was so tired last night that I was asleep early and I feel rested. I have a few errands to run this morning. Need to go by the bank and Dollar Tree and I have an appointment to get my nails done. After that, I should be done until Sunday! I plan to just chill at home until then! I'll be back when I get through with my running this morning. Murphy

A lighter version of myself and maybe someone's fairy godmother September 5: 198.8 September 12: 199 September 19: 199 at least holding steady! September 26: 199.4 October 3: October 10: October 17: October 24: October 31/Final weigh in: Happy Halloween! and congrats to your new self! Good morning. Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit. enjoyed my day yesterday even tho not much got done. DH did plant the plants and the front looks good. We didn't work on car parts, I drew the pie on the shutter and now need to go get some black craft paint to fill it in today. Going to still be close to 80 today and then change into high 60's with some rain coming through for the next week or so. Got some ideas for Dr's, want to find someone "young enough that they won't be retiring in the next 2 years!! May be back to square one with DS job and where they're going. I guess the job for the GF mostly entailed working with orphans/refugees? that were coming through, not much nursing. They are weighing the options. Now said they would be willing to take any city area for now as it's their first placement and they can become more selective next time. Heard even Atlanta came up! So, I will let that stress go until I'm needed or not and just hope they find somewhere they will be happy. It will work out. Yesterday a lady was walking by and asked DH if Finn was our cat.....She was not happy that she has seen him over by the senior center watching the birds and squirrels. Of course she suggested we put him on a long leash and tie him up in the yard. We are going to try to keep them in for now, they were NOT happy last night. While she said they shouldn't be wandering, she asked if he was fixed, yes, and said if he was feral they trap them, fix them at the shelter and then take them back and release them where they found them. ? My friend does that out in Oregon, so how is that different than regular fixed cats being out. I know people get upset if they catch a bird or ? but they are happy if they catch the mice. Always Drama. I better get some coffee and some 7am steps. Have a great Friday all. Jan Amy Sounds like a busy day, glad you could get up off the floor!! Yay for DS coming in a bit early and getting more time to visit! i love seeing the trees changing. Murphy Yay for getting your nails done and then having some quiet time for the weekend. Sorry you were so tired after the Senior lunch but glad you got some good sleep. Carole Sorry to hear about your nephew and friend's son. I saw about the crash, but they hadn't posted any names of the people or where they were from. Just awful. Can any of DMIL junk be sent back still? Maybe a the new place they can be more aware of what she's up to, if the packages keep coming and cut her off! Cindy Glad you are getting some "nice" rain instead of the big storms. Good to hear at least DS has an offer, hope it works out. That "friend" issue sounds like it would be messy. Hope your pansy's survive when they get planted. Cathy Darn that scale. Stay the course, I'm trying to find my way with the green plan and it's been different. I have brought out my scale and have even measured a few portions...ha ha back to the tried and true. Gg Sorry about DSIL getting the Covid, glad no one wants to spread it to you. Hope the others tests come back negative. You have been a busy girl!! so good the hear you are back out enjoying the things you like to do. Yay for no more PT, just keep doing your stretches! Hi Liz, hope all is well.

Hi girls. I never got back yesterday. š¤·š¼āāļø I made my calls, walked, did PT, went to the funeral home, got groceries, made dinner, cleaned up, and was done! Today, My funeral potatoes are in the oven, and I need to shower before going to the funeral. This man was only 63 and had stomach cancer. I know how hard losing parents is, I canāt even imagine a spouse. But you know all about that, Cindy! š I think DH and I are going bike riding after. Weāll see. I need to shower, but should be back later.

Back from my errands. Got my nails done and I chose a darker wine color. Makes it feel more like fall to have a darker color! Ran by the bank and by Dollar Tree. One more errand this afternoon and then I'm through!
Amy - glad that they don't drain the lake during the winter! I'm sure the last of the hummers will appreciate the food!
Jan - so glad that DS and GF have each other to lean on while they explore options! Does the placement service help them locate housing too? I'm assuming the dog will go with them?
GG - Hope the funeral goes ok. So sad. I saw a lady in the condos riding a 3 wheel this morning. Haven't seen her before. My beach rental comes with a credit to use on rental equipment. One of the options is a bike. I emailed them to ask about a 3 wheel but they don't have those. The lady did say that they get a lot of requests for those so if they do get any, she would let me know. I just don't know if I could get comfortable riding a regular bike again! If they don't get a 3 wheel in, then I probably will rent the regular one along with a helmet and just try to get used to it! I know that at least a couple of my college pals ride bikes often and are planning to bring their bikes with them. This island is very flat and is a great place to ride.
Cindy - saying a prayer for DS and the job prospect!!
Carole - have you started the new job yet? I know packing up all of Diane's stuff will be a big job!
Hi and hugs to everyone! Murphy

Iām back! Turns out my potatoes werenāt needed after all. Someone that came brought a huge big batch of scalloped potatoes, so they used hers. They didnāt want to hurt feelings. Usually I make my casseroles with light ingredients, just in case I get them back. But I didnāt this time. I sampled them when I got them home. Too much butter for my taste! Weāll have some for dinner and I can always freeze some.
Cindy: DS needs to find a nice normal girl we all approve of! Lol
Amy: All our hummers are gone. With this bird sickness, Iām wondering how many birds will be at our feeders this winter!
Murphy: DH decided he didnāt want to ride bikes. Iām glad I walked while I was in town! You should definitely rent a bike! Plus you will walk too, I would think! When do you leave?
Carole: So much sadness! We had a lot of that when we went through DHās parents stuff.
Cathy: Iām glad you are checking in!
Jan: I tried to switch to green and just couldnāt. I probably need to though for portions. Iāll see how you do!
Liz: Hope youāre just busy!
Itās been beautiful around here! Tomorrow Iām getting my hair cut, and then going to watch Jacksonās football game.
