The testimony of the Facebook whistle-blower before Congress is brilliant. I don't see how they can avoid taking some action to regulate.

lani, My question is what does she plan to do with her life after this. After being a whistle-blower would anyone want to hire her? I guess she could get into the consumer advocate field.

Paranoid Patty, that's me, is worried about her life now. That old saying is sad but true. No good deed goes unpunished.

She could go into public service. She could write a book. She could go work at a think tank. She could get a job as a news analyst. And any company looking for good PR could hire her as an ethics guru. She has a Harvard MBA, still worth a lot no matter what.

lani, Thanks for your answer. I was thinking the same thing but couldn't put it into words.

Too bad it is behind a paywall but I just aced a conspiracy theory quiz in the Washington post. It was a lot of fun to take. It is amazing the conspiracy theories there have been over the years. I remember my dad told me people thought FDR knew about the upcoming attack on Pearl Harbor and let it happen so we could go to war. The oldest one in the quiz was that Oswald was not the lone assassin of JFK.

As a parent, when my son was younger, it was up to ME to keep him safe on social media, I didn't put that responsibility off on the platform. I know social media has grown tremendously since then, but I do get tired of parents blaming everyone except themselves for NOT paying attention to what their kids are doing online. (Not a popular opinion, I know, but it's how I feel)

bbbearsmom, don't forget W.R. Hearst started the Spanish-American War with false reporting in his newspapers. His rival publisher, Pulitzer, joined in, and public opinion eventually forced the president (was it McKinley?) to declare war. Remember The Main. It blew up by accident and the press convinced everyone that the Spanish (on Cuba) did it. (Just googled, it was McKinley.) The goal of the war was Cuban independence from Spain. I don't know if that qualifies as a conspiracy theory, but it still blows my mind.

lani, A good example of "fake news." DotRen, My husband was just saying the same thing. He was listening to the news and he said that in all the news about the Facebook/Instagram situation no one mentions the parents and their responsibility in the matter.

A couple of large employers in TX stated that the federal mandate supersedes any state mandate. (Who knew supersede is correct and supercede is not? Although commonly used.)
