Welcome to Alcohol Free Is What We Want To Be! .. We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE!
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN? September 5 - October 31
CIRCLE September 5 on the calendar. Now CIRCLE October 31 on the calendar. This is your 8 week AF Halloween challenge. For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself. Organize yourself healthy, organize your grocery shopping, ORGANIZE!
Do you fancy yourself a witch? a ghoul? a ?? How about visualizing yourself as a happier, healthier person? Envision your costume…except it won’t be a costume, it will be you!
Being AF isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a truce and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been lousy so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. If you decide to have a drink, don’t beat yourself up….this is a hard journey! Keep in mind you don’t have to finish the bottle, you don’t have to finish a bag of cookies…you have control…now you have to believe it!
Some of us can’t have “spirits” in the house…that can take a whole lot of self control. There are lots of tricks and ways to avoid A but essentially many of us bring an OCD attitude…..usually defined as obsessive compulsive disorder... to stay AF but for this challenge OCD means….Ongoing Celebration of Discovery! We can discover and celebrate ourselves!! And we don't need alcohol or excessive food to do it!
So what are you going to be for Halloween? A much healthier, happier person sounds like a great plan and it won't be a costume! Great success!

Using Saturday morning's weight for my WI, although scale not up that much after yesterday. DH, DS, & I took the golf cart to the nature trail. A lot of people out on their golf carts, probably snooping the garage sales. The trail was nice, more trees starting to turn, nice breeze. When we got back, we had scrambled eggs & bacon, fresh fruit, and the glazed croissants from the grocery store bakery, very yummy. After DS left, we got busy mowing the yard. I badgered DH into helping me adjust the sprinkler head so it mostly misses the whisky barrel. I filled the barrel mostly full of dirt (need one more bag) and put some pine straw around it so the bed looks nice again after the digging. Picked 25 more cherry tomatoes, they just keep coming! and we have one cucumber almost ready and more to come. The broccoli is growing, not sure what it's supposed to look like, we had flowers on the butternut squash, but no signs of any squash yet. I grew it from seed from one we bought at the store, so no loss if it doesn't produce. It was almost 3pm by the time I was done in the yard, I showered and settled on the couch. Needless to say, I did not make it out to the yard sales again. Around 4, DH went to the hotdog food truck and brought back chili cheese dogs, yummy.
It's overcast this morning and is supposed to rain. Hopefully we can squeeze in a walk before.
GG- Hope you had a nice afternoon with your girls and got some good yard sale finds.
Jan- WTG getting your steps, blue dot. I don't think I've had delicata squash. I am happy being more retired, don't miss the work at all. I made oatmeal scotchies, they turned out more flat & crispy than I expected, but very yummy.
Carole- Yay for having Ty home and the Blake Shelton concert.
Cindy- GL with your company- hugs!
Cathy- Looks like the scale is moving in the right direction, finally.

A lighter version of myself and maybe someone's fairy godmother September 5: 198.8 September 12: 199 September 19: 199 at least holding steady! September 26: 199.4 October 3: 199 October 10: October 17: October 24: October 31/Final weigh in: Happy Halloween! and congrats to your new self! Good morning Had a good day yesterday, knit, read, watched football. Oregon game was painful as they gave it away at the end, DH was not happy Today more of the same. Rainy this morning, will get the paper, watch some football. Will need to get my steps at the store or dancing around upstairs. DS said yesterday they sold their couch and some other furniture, must be down to nothing in the apt. Still no word of what's next, just have to be patient and know it will work out. Heard from DB, he is doing better, slow going but feels better. Cigna Insurance is denying many of the tests the Dr wants to have done. Such a mess, health insurance in America mostly stinks! My cousin will check into Rush hospital this evening for surgery early tomorrow. She's ready to just have it done, I worry more about her DH and kids that are trying hard to be upbeat and positive. Just have to keep moving forward. No big plans for the day, hope to hear something tomorrow about when I need to go up north to get the fireplace project done and then close up. Hope you all have a great Sunday. Jan Amy Glad your garden is giving you treats. I felt bad that I had to buy a carton of cherry tomatoes yesterday, but they sure were still yummy! I have more to pull out in the back, and the animals have eaten holes in the tomatoes I had left. Looks like your scale is moving too!! Yay . Glad you got the yard work done before the rain came. I know our new plants are happy it rained last night and today. Delicata is yummy, so easy, no peeling, just cut and roast or ?? tastes kind of like sweet potatoes. Cindy Did the company stay overnight? Being a hermit is not so bad. Keep checking in when you can. Cathy Glad to see you can at least check in. Looks like the scale is moving again. GG How was your girls day out? Carole Hope it was a fun concert. Was it part or Summerfest or just a regular show? Not sure if Summerfest is still going or over, it's changed so much. Glad you got some Ty time. I surely couldn't drive home from Milwaukee after a concert, even AF, I'd be asleep Hope you got to sleep in this morning!! Hi to all. Coffee and breakfast time

Hi friends! Concert was great! Jan, it was at Fiserve Forum, where the Bucks play. Alexis drove, I give her anxiety when I drive apparently! I would’ve needed a diet Mountain Dew if I drove home! Is DS and GF becomi g travel nurses? We found out Jeff’s aunt Barb died unexpectedly. She was 63 or so. I kind of feel she died of a broken heart. She had taken care of her mom for years. She died at 100 years, 6 months ago. She was such a kind lady. Never married. She always gave all of the kids Halloween and Christmas treats and money I need to take Ty back. Have a great night.

I was NOT feeling well yesterday...think I ate something off but who knows? Just glad I feel better today!
I have read all of the posts...nothing new here. The scale likes to hover around 160 and seems intent on remaining here. It is what it is. I will stay OP and even if I never drop another pound, know that I am better off today than I was when I weighed over 200 pounds!
JAN: Hope your son and his girlfriend figure out where they want to be next and find the perfect job(s). As nurses they shouldn't have too much trouble finding employment. When and where will they move next? Any idea at all?
GG: I know you had fun on your afternoon with the "girls"
CAROL: How nice to see your son and spend time with him AND to go to a concert with Lex.
CINDY: After so long NOT socializing, I find I prefer being on my own to being with others. Funny. I hope you are enjoying your company.
