Welcome to Alcohol Free Is What We Want To Be! .. We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE!
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN? September 5 - October 31
CIRCLE September 5 on the calendar. Now CIRCLE October 31 on the calendar. This is your 8 week AF Halloween challenge. For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself. Organize yourself healthy, organize your grocery shopping, ORGANIZE!
Do you fancy yourself a witch? a ghoul? a ?? How about visualizing yourself as a happier, healthier person? Envision your costume…except it won’t be a costume, it will be you!
Being AF isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a truce and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been lousy so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. If you decide to have a drink, don’t beat yourself up….this is a hard journey! Keep in mind you don’t have to finish the bottle, you don’t have to finish a bag of cookies…you have control…now you have to believe it!
Some of us can’t have “spirits” in the house…that can take a whole lot of self control. There are lots of tricks and ways to avoid A but essentially many of us bring an OCD attitude…..usually defined as obsessive compulsive disorder... to stay AF but for this challenge OCD means….Ongoing Celebration of Discovery! We can discover and celebrate ourselves!! And we don't need alcohol or excessive food to do it!
So what are you going to be for Halloween? A much healthier, happier person sounds like a great plan and it won't be a costume! Great success!

DH & I managed to get a walk in at the clubhouse with just light sprinkles. It was gloomy and drizzly off and on but never rained heavily. Did a load of laundry and puttered around the house putting things away, then was lazy for most of the rest of the day.
It's supposed to rain all week, although it doesn't appear to be raining yet, too dark to see the sky.
Jan- WTG getting steps 11/11, AF, blue dot. Glad your DB is feeling better. GL to your cousin with her surgery today.
Carole- Glad the concert was great. Sounds like you had a lot of time in the car. So sorry to hear about Jeff's aunt Barb.
Cindy- Sorry about the Patriots.
Murphy- Sounds like a busy day with church and choir practice, yay for working on Christmas music.

A lighter version of myself and maybe someone's fairy godmother September 5: 198.8 September 12: 199 September 19: 199 at least holding steady! September 26: 199.4 October 3: 199 October 10: October 17: October 24: October 31/Final weigh in: Happy Halloween! and congrats to your new self! Good morning, going to make it a good day. Yesterday's gray, wet, no to do list led me down the "check out" path. Poured out what was left this morning and moving on. My cousin went in for surgery at 7 this morning, had a text from her husband. She was upbeat and now we just wait. Talked to DS yesterday. They have sold most of the furniture they can, going to just dump the mattress and bed, he says too much trouble to take it all apart and expect someone else to put it back together as they don't have directions. I remember he and DH putting it together, like an Ikea project too many part and screws. GF will leave on the 12th, drive as far as Atlanta and her mom will fly down to drive to NY with her. DS will have the blow up air mattress left and works on the 16th. He will leave to come here on the 17th. No actual placement yet but they expected to hear from the recruiter today. There will be a job, but they may have to experience some snow this winter If there is still no job when he gets here, they may still fly to California to do the meet up with friends they had planned towards the end of the month. Youth!! They figure they should do it while the dog is still at the parents house. My goals today are just stay on track, get off the couch and move more, plan a dinner and be AF. I can manage that! Maybe by the end of the day we'll hear some news from DS, my cousin should be on her way to recovery, hope to hear from the fireplace guy at the cabin, and I can make some plans moving forward. I took my computer to Best Buy and they said maybe not back til Wednesday. Feel out of sorts without it. THis upstairs one works but is slow and often loses the internet connection. Oh well, more reason to work on other things. Have a good Monday all. Jan Amy Sorry about the restless sleep. Hope you can gt out to walk between the rain. I'm proud of you for going even when it's drizzling! Are the cookies gone? Murphy Have fun at Sam's. I need to go back up there and get some use out of my membership. I know Christmas will be here before we know it, just can't get my head around that yet, altho the stores already have decorations out. Hope you have a good week. Carole Glad you didn't have to drive home and you had fun at the concert. Sorry about DH aunt. Are you working all the time at the school now? Did they let you keep your day at the gym? Cindy Didn't stay awake to see the end of that game, DH doesn't like Brady so doesn't like to watch. I had already sat too many hours by then watching the Bears, then Packers. Any more word on DS offer? Cathy I know the kids will find a place, there are offers, a lot for him in ICU, she is harder to place in Peds. You have had a great year loosing the weight, just have to keep at it and not give up. Hi to all.

Back from errands. Carolyn needed to make a couple of extra stops. I'm glad I am available to go to Sam's with her. She wouldn't be able to lift some of the things by herself. I didn't buy anything. I'm good on groceries and I really want to eat out of the freezer as much as I can before my trip.
Amy - I think it's supposed to rain all week here as well although the sun is shining right now. It's so humid!
Jan - hope things come through for DS and GF. I think it is awesome that they will get to explore different areas through the travel nursing.
Carole - glad the concert was so good!
Nothing planned for the rest of today. It's nice to have a down day! Everyone have a great start to your week! Murphy

Hi girls! I just got back from a walk and am already over 5,000 steps! Holy Moly! Of course, yesterday I never even hit 2,000. That’s called balance, right? Did I mention for the month of September I had an average of 5900 steps? That makes me happy! Yesterday, I woke up at 8:45, showered, and made it to church in time for Sunday School at 9:45. I got home around 12:30 and pretty much stayed on the couch the rest of the day! Sunday was for sure a day of rest for me! Saturday, I did find some bargains. I spent about $8 and got several toys for Rylee and a game for Addison. Then we went to Jack’s game. I enjoyed watching the girls play together. Jack’s team lost, and DS wasn’t happy with the way Jack played. He’s not aggressive enough. Jack has already said he’s not playing next year. He did have 2 nice catches though! That’s what I concentrated on!
Cindy: I thought about you yesterday! I wasn’t sure who you would root for!
Cathy: I need your discipline! I have been flip flopping between on plan and totally off plan!
Amy: It sounds like a good day yesterday! I almost bought some homemade cookies at a church sale, but managed to leave them and the peanut butter fudge there. That doesn’t mean I didn’t get into the peanut butter later though! Note to self, NEVER use a spoon to eat directly out of the jar!
Murphy: It sounds like you had a good day yesterday! How are you doing with walking more?
Jan: Looking back, would you change anything about yesterday? I had lots of couch time, but no football time!
Carole: I’m glad you enjoyed time with your kids!

Hi All,
Amy, it is all nice to have a day of puttering and rest.
Murphy, yesterday sounds like a wonderful day with church activities. Glad that you are able to help out Carolyn. Has Sam's started putting out Christmas stuff yet?
Jan, sounds like DS and GF are moving along. I'm sure something will break for both of them. I hope your Cousin is doing well. It is a lot to deal with, prayers.
Carole, glad you were able to get "Ty" time and had a good time at the concert. I am sorry to hear about Jeff's aunt. Hugs
GG, I am a diehard Patriots fan. Love Brady when he was a Patriot, still think he is an amazing player but my heart is with the Patriots. I hope Jack sticks to his decision if he knows baseball is not for him.
Liz, how are you doing?
Cathy, glad the scale is behaving again! Keep on working it! You are doing great.
So the company left yesterday afternoon. DS and she had a great time at the State Fair, she enjoyed watching football, helped me cook dinner. She will be going home to India mid December and returning first of January. She is working on her Master's. I have no clue how this will work out. There are a lot of cultural differences to understand.
DS is still in waiting mode...the offer is still there but the paperwork still needs to be processed. One of the people he has been dealing with contacted him today apologizing for the delay. Still not counting on anything.
Nephew is in third week of radiation. Doctor is pleased with his progress, he is in no pain but just exhausted. His days center around the G tube feeding, radiation and sleeping.
Have my infusion in the morning.
Hope everyone is doing well!
Hugs, Cindy

Hubby caught a rat and dispatched it...did not ask for details or wish to see the rat. I figure there are more though he thinks there was only one...silly man.
My sister, in California, is going to see the oncology surgeon today. She has a quickly growing ovarian cyst that is "suspicious" but they can't be sure if it is benign or malignant without surgery and it seems ob-gyn oncology specialists provide better results than ob-gyn physicians not specialized in oncology surgery. I am hoping it is benign, her surgery is done quickly, and she has many years ahead of her. She is four years younger and my BFF.
I am going to forego the wine this week and may not get together with friends as covid looms large these days and I want to stay healthy. I might try altering an outfit or two and go through some of the clothes in the give away suitcase to see what might be worth altering?
Read posts quickly so feel a bit caught up but no personals right now.
