Welcome to Alcohol Free Is What We Want To Be! .. We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE!
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN? September 5 - October 31
CIRCLE September 5 on the calendar. Now CIRCLE October 31 on the calendar. This is your 8 week AF Halloween challenge. For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself. Organize yourself healthy, organize your grocery shopping, ORGANIZE!
Do you fancy yourself a witch? a ghoul? a ?? How about visualizing yourself as a happier, healthier person? Envision your costume…except it won’t be a costume, it will be you!
Being AF isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a truce and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been lousy so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. If you decide to have a drink, don’t beat yourself up….this is a hard journey! Keep in mind you don’t have to finish the bottle, you don’t have to finish a bag of cookies…you have control…now you have to believe it!
Some of us can’t have “spirits” in the house…that can take a whole lot of self control. There are lots of tricks and ways to avoid A but essentially many of us bring an OCD attitude…..usually defined as obsessive compulsive disorder... to stay AF but for this challenge OCD means….Ongoing Celebration of Discovery! We can discover and celebrate ourselves!! And we don't need alcohol or excessive food to do it!
So what are you going to be for Halloween? A much healthier, happier person sounds like a great plan and it won't be a costume! Great success!

DH & I walked at the lake and though it was cloudy, it did not rain. When we got back, I headed down to Publix to get my second Shingrix shot. After that I went to Home Depot to get a bag of dirt and enjoyed looking at all the pretty mums, pansies, and ornamental cabbage. It was tempting to get the pansies, but I think it's still too early. My arm is quite sore from the shot and I am generally achy all over, but apparently that's to be expected.
It's not raining at the moment, hopefully we can get a walk in before it starts raining again.

Good morning Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day. I need to get out and take advantage of it. Also want to maybe go to Sam's, the thrift store and have other errands to run. I think my computer is repaired altho they said pick up tomorrow. I'm going to call and see if I can come in today. Yesterday I just wanted sweets and carbs, I know for me that is an after effect of drinking the day before. Another reason it doesn't help my journey. Then got lazy and didn't want to make our stir fry for dinner so DH wanted Nachos with the football game. At least we had chicken to put on them and I wasn't that hungry after my other snacks in the afternoon. Heard from my cousin's DH through out the day. Surgery went well, she was in the ICU in the afternoon where he could visit. Sleepy but had a time where she could talk to the kids and DH said that made her smile. Now onto recovery. Not sure long they'll keep her at the hospital. I had a message that they can install the fireplace insert on Thursday yay. one more thing done. Not sure yet if I'll have to drive up Wednesday and spend the night or can just go early Thursday morning. I also got the pie painted on the shutter yesterday so it's ready to go back up north with me. COunting the days til we hopefully get to have DS home for a little bit, I will count it as my birthday present!! Just going to make it a good day, hope you all are too. Jan
Amy Hope you are getting your walk in and the soreness from the shot goes away. I need to schedule a flu shot. Yay for one cookie. I'm sure your planter will look beautiful.
Murphy Hope your day went well. Yay for passing up all the temptations at Sam's. Has the insurance said anymore about doing the roof?
Cindy I didn't realize the company was the "friend". Hope they figure out DS paperwork soon and he can get back to working. The kids seem to be going with the flow. I heard from the GF yesterday they are trying to get in a few nights out, trying some special restaurants and things in NOLA before they leave, things are finally opening up again.
GG You have made amazing progress with that new bionic body part!! You go girl. It must feel great to be able to be active after hurting for so long. Do you think Jack doesn't like the game, or doesn't like the pressure from his "fans" and coaches? DOes he have something else he'd rather play or do? Thinking back on why I "give in", I know I'm impulsive at times, DH was going to the store and asked, if I had been able to take more time to answer or think it through I'd probably have said no, but he was leaving and at that moment it was a yes. It's a crazy feeling that just seems to come over at random times. I can go for days and no urge or thought, then bam it's like I can think of nothing else. Most days if I distract, take a walk, move to another room, just disrupt the urge, I can move past. I'm still a work in progress but I'm feeling better and know I'm doing better than a year ago! still one day at a time.
Cathy I would not want to see a rat, our little mice now and then are bad enough. Staying away from the wine will probably be best for the scale, sorry you can't wee friends but better to be safe. Hope you can find some clothes to rework for yourself!!
Hi to all. Time to move and have breakfast.

Good morning! OMG, I can't believe I ate 3 apple cider donuts Sunday night! I want to kill DD for bringing over donuts and brownies. She didn't want them in her house because neither she nor her DH wanted to eat them! Definitely not doing well this challenge. I start off the day strong and then it just goes to sh#t! I am not quite at my all time high weight and I really don't want to get there, but I am not far from it. I am trying not to despair and hang in there. I need to start caring about life again; I feel trapped.
The pool is finally covered and it is pouring out so just planning on purging some bureau drawers of things that I no longer wear so I can put the clothes that are sitting in a pile on a chair in my bedroom in the drawers. Once I empty off the chair, it will go back into the kitchen and I will be moving my bike back in my bedroom, hoping that I will get a little motivation if it is there right in front of me. I finished the baby blanket and Fedexed it; it arrived the same day the baby was born, whew! Just working on a hat with earlaps for Isabel and almost finished with that. Heard of two more baby boys that will be entering the world so two more blankets for them. I have to tell these girls to keep their legs crossed, lol!
I really need to read all the personals, but Jan, I am praying for healing and a full recovery for your cousin. Will try to be more "here". xoxo

We're back from walking, very light rain, but pleasant enough with our rain jackets. Saw a family of deer, I never get tired of them, although I might feel differently if they were eating my garden. It's a gloomy day and I haven't found any motivation to do anything yet.
Murphy- So nice of you to take Carolyn on her errands.
Jan- Woohoo for steps 11/11, blue dot after the weekend detour, feeling rested, productive day. Glad your cousin's surgery went well and the kids are getting to do some fun stuff in NOLA. There are still cookies left, but I feel it's a win if I only eat one per day.
GG- Woohoo for getting so many steps, garage sale finds. Sorry Jack's team lost.
Cindy- I didn't realize the company was DS's friend either. Hope it all gets sorted out with the job soon. Glad your nephew is making progress, even though exhausted. GL with your infusion.
Cathy- Yay for the scale coming down. Yikes- I wouldn't want to see the rat either. Sorry to hear about your sister's ovarian cyst. Hope you find clothes worth altering.
Liz- Donuts are hard to resist! Sounds like you have a lot of projects on your to-do list. Yay for the blanket arriving the day the baby was born.

Why should you be careful playing against a team of big cats?
They might be cheetahs.

Hi friends! Lots of complainers today at the fitness center.
Amy, I love your jokes! I didn’t feel too well after my first shingle shot and my arm was SORE!
Jan, I’m excited for you to have DS at home! I officially start at the high school Friday. They wanted me sooner but I wanted to give my boss 2 week notice. I will work here 1 morning a week and be a sub. I’m praying for your cousin.
Liz, so good to hear from you! I can eat a 6 donuts in a sitting! Why do you feel trapped?
Cathy, prayers for your sister.
Cindy, I hope your infusion goes well today.
Hi Murphy and gg, need to get back to work. My friend is finally coming home with her son, she had him cremated. How 1 day can change your life.

Hi all. Got my computer back but it cost me eating 3 McDonalds CC cookies while I was driving around and out!! Guess the sweets are calling everyone, I walked by all the candy at Sam's club and said WAY too early to bring any into the house. Thanks to all for all the prayers and good thoughts. Cousin is recovering, a lot of sleep. Her DH said today her eye area was a lot more purple bruised and more swollen in her face but Dr says that's just healing and will take time. He asked that I send her lots of pictures from the cabin on Thursday to cheer her up. Getting some short ribs ready for the oven, I will be so far over points today, but trying to stay positive. Liz, I can relate, just can't find the focused motivation. Better on the AF, but just substituting food. We all need a trip to the Owl's nest with a private chef and Carole can be out exercise coach!! Hugs to you all, so glad you are here!! Jan

Hi girls. I had my pool exercise class, then did some errands. Came home and called customer service trying to get our phone bill lower, and made dinner. This girl is beat! But, it’s been an OP,day so far! We’re having meatloaf and the last of the funeral potatoes and green beans for supper. Yum!
Cindy: It’s football Jack doesn’t like. He says it hurts. Can’t say as I blame him at all! Baseball is his favorite. I didn’t realize who the guest was either!
Amy: You're so faithful at walking! I did walk 20 minutes before the pool today!
Jan: Jack says it hurts to hit people. Plus I’m sure he feels pressure to please his parents. I’ve been the same way with food. It’s like once I get to a certain point, there’s no stopping me. I know that’s not true, but my brain sure thinks so!
Liz: Those darned donuts! DD has no problem throwing food away. I can’t do that!
