Welcome to Alcohol Free Is What We Want To Be! .. We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE!
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN? September 5 - October 31
CIRCLE September 5 on the calendar. Now CIRCLE October 31 on the calendar. This is your 8 week AF Halloween challenge. For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself. Organize yourself healthy, organize your grocery shopping, ORGANIZE!
Do you fancy yourself a witch? a ghoul? a ?? How about visualizing yourself as a happier, healthier person? Envision your costumeā¦except it wonāt be a costume, it will be you!
Being AF isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a truce and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been lousy so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. If you decide to have a drink, donāt beat yourself upā¦.this is a hard journey! Keep in mind you donāt have to finish the bottle, you donāt have to finish a bag of cookiesā¦you have controlā¦now you have to believe it!
Some of us canāt have āspiritsā in the houseā¦that can take a whole lot of self control. There are lots of tricks and ways to avoid A but essentially many of us bring an OCD attitudeā¦..usually defined as obsessive compulsive disorder... to stay AF but for this challenge OCD meansā¦.Ongoing Celebration of Discovery! We can discover and celebrate ourselves!! And we don't need alcohol or excessive food to do it!
So what are you going to be for Halloween? A much healthier, happier person sounds like a great plan and it won't be a costume! Great success!

September 5: 175.2 September 12: 174 September 19: 173.2 September 26: 174.6 October 3: 173.6 October 10: October 17: October 24: October 31/Final weigh in: Happy Halloween! and congrats to your new self!
I called my replacement b/c I haven't been able to log into my remote desktop for a week or so. Apparently it was some problem with the internet connection to the desktop. Anyway, we chatted for a while, then I did some education modules that were overdue. After that I had breakfast/lunch then settled on the couch. DH was out and about for most of the day. I felt really tired, whether due to the rainy weather or the Shingrix vaccine, so not much accomplished yesterday. My arm is still pretty sore, but otherwise feel okay.
Jan- Yay for getting your computer back and getting your steps. I agree that it's too early to have Halloween candy in the house. Safe travels to the cabin tomorrow.
Carole- Sorry about the complainers at the fitness center. Glad you like the jokes, most are pretty corny, but I figure if it makes me laugh, you guys might find it funny too.
Murphy- The rain IS dreary.
GG- WTG staying OP despite your busy day.
Cindy- Hugs!
Cathy- It's good to listen to your instincts about not going to cards.

A lighter version of myself and maybe someone's fairy godmother September 5: 198.8 September 12: 199 September 19: 199 at least holding steady! September 26: 199.4 October 3: 199 October 10: October 17: October 24: October 31/Final weigh in: Happy Halloween! and congrats to your new self! Good morning. I'm hoping my walking at least burned off some of my extra points yesterday. I had left the house about 10:30 and know I can't make it without packing a snack if I don't know when I'll be back. had a lunch plan but wasn't home til 2:30 and was just too hungry before then. I avoided the mall foods and Sam's food, drove into one Mcdonalds and the line was so long, talked myself out of it. Then went to another store and by the time I was on my way home I caved. Just another lesson, pack snacks or a sandwich, even if I end up not needing it. No big plans today, need to find some cat food, pack my shutter in the car, figure out some snacks for the cabin as there is NO food there and I don't know how long the fireplace work will take. Kind of hoping it's not so late that I have to drive home in the dark, we'll see, I could stay if necessary. GOing to bring my knitting and a book at least to work on. No other big plans for the day. Hope you all have a good Hump Day. take care, Jan Amy Are the work models to keep you licensing up to date or reports for work? Hope your arm feels better today. Yay for one cookie, that's discipline!! Cathy You need to do what makes you feel comfortable. I'm glad your sister could get her surgery scheduled so quickly and wasn't put off by full hospital beds. Will she go to the city or have it done locally? Cindy Hope you wake up full of energy today, sorry the infusions make you tired. Murphy Has the rain stopped? Do you have a fireplace at the condo? We bought a TV stand for our basement that has an electric fireplace that is very cozy looking and actually blows out heat. I can handle the gray and rain a lot better when it feels cozy inside. If DH wouldn't freak out, I'd put up my little Christmas tree with the white lights on it already GG Sounds like you had a good day. I can see why Jack doesn't like football. I'm surprised they are already playing tackle, many of the kids still have flag football until they are older. He should stick with what he likes to do and hopefully his parents will accept that. Carole Sorry there were crabby folks at the gym. Have they started to have to wear masks again, or just being crabby? What did you do with all the stuff from Diane's when she moved to assisted living? Liz Today is a new day, what's on you plan? I'm sure I couldn't do that many baby blankets!! Are they close friends? I was also interested when you said you felt trapped, in a marriage, care giving role, just out of sorts not working and doing the same day to day? My brain was thinking of those things, it's hard to reinvent yourself when you retire....who am I now? Hope you figure some things out and make the time to take care of you!! You are worth it!!! I'll check in later.

Hi All!
GG, sorry about mixing baseball up with football...duh on my part. Maybe baseball is just his game. Sounds like you are staying on plan!
Amy, I wondered the same as Jan. Are the educational modules to get up licensing/certification? Haven't done the shingles vaccine...know I need to but I just get tired of needles.
Jan, I keep a protein bar in my bag for the in case. I think because it gets so hot around here, I try to remember to put an ice pack in a cooler before I pull out of the garage. Usually put water in it if nothing else. I hope the fireplace insert finishes early enough to head home. Your shutter sounds amazing! How is your cousin? Any dates settled for DS coming home?
Murphy, how are you doing today? How is Callie doing? Rain for me is such a mixed bag. I love watching it, love the gloominess (okay I'm a witch at heart), but if I have to function in the world, not so much fun.
Liz, I think I understood the feeling of being trapped. I don't have the stress that you have but even happiness stress, is still stress. I sometimes feel trapped by my choices and yet I don't know what I would change. Please feel free to vent.
Carole, is the move for Diane completed? Did she agree to getting rid of stuff?
Cathy, glad your sister was able to schedule the surgery, prayers for her. Will her husband be able to support her? Or am I mixing up family members. You are being wise to follow your instincts about meeting up with friends.
Talked to my SIL...she turned 75 today. We talked about what is going on with her son and she had no idea that he was texting with me. Unfortunately she had to attend a funeral today for a dear friend's ex husband. They were still close but could not live together. My brother could only attend the mass because he had to take his son to radiation. Not the best birthday.
DS finally decided that the plumbing job was beyond him...it seems like the plumbing might have been jerry rigged. So scheduled the plumber for Monday. Called the ophthalmologist's office for an appointment to get a baseline for cataracts...only took me 8 months and the appointment is in November. And called the roofer to find out about the gutters. Supposedly the "money decision" will be made on Friday. Worked on the garden that normally gets flooded. Trying to create a sorta, kinda, french drain.
Hope everyone is doing well!
Hugs, Cindy

My sister's husband will go with her and stay in a nearby hotel while she is in the hospital. Their youngest son will be there the week after her surgery to help and support them as needed. Her husband gets tired easily as he has pancreatic cysts and with his back surgeries and fusions isn't able to lift or do weight bearing that might be needed.
No real news here.
