This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ******************** Happy Weekend.
Saturday is “I love yarn day.” This one’s for you, Karen. It is also National Moldy Cheese Day. I do love a good Maytag Blue or a Camembert. 😋

we are at average temp or less, heading for cool down! Yea. I am slowly getting rid of some plants and dirt in a small raised border by the eastern back wall to simplify life. I will have a couple pots there easy to plant and water if I wish.
Tree guy has a lot of thinking and pruning to do plus the dead almond to cut down.. $$$. It may be four weeks because they are so busy after all our stormy weather and summer heat.
the garage needs cleaning up major. Have a fold up canvas dog crate we got for Micki ten years ago that he hates…will take that to a rescue place this week.

Thanks for the start, Chele, and the yarn tribute. Maybe I can get back into that some after my presidential stint concludes. I didn't realized "stinky cheese" had its own day. I used to eat that from time to time but I don't know what variety. It was just "bleu", according to the tag. Sorry about the chocolate reaction. I've been that way off and on since the early 90s and finally gave up on it totally last year. Chocolate is probably what started my reflux because it severely relaxed my lower esophageal sphincter and it took years to get that right again. But early on, I would break out in a rash and develop difficulty breathing. So my symptoms changed over time, but they were all related to ingesting dark chocolate. I do miss it sometimes but not as much as I used to. I can eat small amounts of cocoa in things like brownies, but solid dark chocolate like Dove Promises is off limits. Was this a YS day? Are your green beans still producing?
Kathy, the TX-OU game has been really exciting so far. TX scored 2 TDs in the first 2 minutes of play. At the end of the Q1, TX led 28-7. May the rout continue for my Horns. I saw that UCF is playing on ESPN+. Will you be able to watch them? Good luck to your Noles. I heard your state is now trying to copy the TX abortion ban. How far do you think a law banning a man's reproductive rights would get in any state legislature? Are you getting any rain from the system off the coast? The tropics have been a bit quiet for the last few weeks. Hopefully that will continue.
How are you feeling today, Linda? I hope you didn't wake up with the same issue you had yesterday. I'm sure the rescue will appreciate the fold up grate much more than Micki did. Container planting is so much simpler than in-ground. Keeping them watered can be a challenge, but otherwise, if they die you can easily replace them. Do you put irrigation heads in your pots? Good luck getting the tree guy there reasonably soon.
Liz, are you having to do so many errands on the weekends now that Gary has retired? He can't get your hair cut for you, but hopefully he's doing some of the other things. Are case counts and positivity rates dropping there? Deaths are still up here, but that's a lagging indicator anyway. But who knows what new variation will be next?
Dale was out the door to the state park by 6:30, so I got a jump start on my day. Bed is changed and associated laundry done. Arya has 6 weeks worth of dinners in the freezer. Vacuuming is done. That should be enough. I'm having a varicose vein issue that was bothering me when I got up yesterday. Inherited condition. DF's DM had them bad and she worked retail, so she was on her feet a lot. I have a calf sleeve on it and use some arnica gel after I got out of the shower. I've been icing it now and then as well. Hopefully I can get on the other side of it with non-invasive methods. DB and family got to the RV park around 6:30 last night and said traffic was awful (no surprise there). They were planning to go to an Indian village in NC today, so maybe I'll see them tomorrow, depending on what they decide to do (they aren't much for planning). I hope all of you are enjoying a beautiful fall day like we are.
Waving to the rest of the gang.

I inherited the veinous insufficiency issue too…the valves poop out and blood pools with gravity making ankles, legs swell. I let it go too long and onr got big and required actual hospital surgery. After that every few years I see vein surgeon (real one who fixes aortas and such, not a cosmetic place) and he snips out small ones with a local and steri strips and injects a couple. I keep putting it off because of Bob's never ending issues.
Hope your day went well.
Finally finished cutting up and pulling out the big spiny aloe plants, bagged and trashed. Evened up the area and got a potted palm in place of it. It's a volunteer from the tall one two yards over. When it gets too big , I will just get rid of it. DH helped me use a plant mover dolly to bring a shefferia in a pot over to use the leftover space because it really prefers shade under the pomegranate tree and looks leafy green there by paved area with the two white lawn chairs with the white and yellow cushions..water for them is water drip/ tube with mini bubblers system off irrigation bubbler. There is a simple screw on adapter that the bubbler goes on top of so you have both. One area of pots has a full size drip line on a more complex attachment. I can run drip lines off it to pots. Those have spiked mini bubblers.
it will be a lot easier to blow leaves out of that area when it comes down in Dec.
Talked a long time with dsil way younger who is more like daughter us. They are finally getting a while house generator finally as the area near Albany, NY is overbuilt and it loses power at the drop of a hat. Two of my nephews now work as dealers for a casino nearby..good salary.
I have now lost five pounds since mid August. DH has lost 7.5 in three weeks being much stricter. He will switch to my level next week. Is it me, or does the weight disappear everywhere but the middle?
Trying a new stuffed pepper recipe for supper. think I will sub beans for the hamburger.

Chele, thanks for the start. No moldy cheeses here! I hope the chocolate sensitivity is just from the particular kind you were eating. Karen, I'm streaming ESPN+ now. It's part of the package that came with my phone deal. UCF and ECU are tied 3-3 at halftime. FSU did well at NC and looks much improved. I hope they can keep it up. Norvell even got the Gatorade treatment or actually whatever non-Gator brand they're using this year. They showed the TX game highlights right after the FSU game. My condolences on TX blowing such a big lead. That was a crazy game! There has been some talk about FL doing an AZ style fraudit as well as copying the TX abortion law. I think FL elections have been closer than TX as far as Republicans vs Democrats, so there could be quite a backlash here if they get that passed. We finally got some rain yesterday, so my lawn is happier. Linda, congrats on the loss! I was down 0.2 this week, so I guess I found the rest of the pound from the 0.9 loss last week. You're losing at a good rate. I think I've been losing it from all over, but the middle seems to be the last to go for some reason.
Liz and Becky, hope you're having a good weekend.

Yea..every little bit helps. Think of it as four times as much off your knees!
thought I was fine for the day after making the stuffed peppers to heat up later…nope. DH wanted light bulb by side garage door replaced…not much room to get fingers up in there. Unscrewed it and had nothing but the glass part! Did the old jam a raw potato in there and turn thing. Not much room for the potato either! But it worked. Trying to get ambition to walk dog we When sun is gone. Dog walk wiped Out my ankles yesterday.

Good win for the Noles, Kathy. Congrats to UCF. That was a tight one, but not as tight as TX A&M and Bama. Not an Aggie fan but glad they pulled that one off. It's nice to know that the Tide is vulnerable. The TX loss was a painful one, but had some excitement. Oh, so close. I was ready to go into OT and then they scored at the last second.
I haven't had a varicose vein problem for about 20 yrs, Linda, and the last problem I had was due to my using a foam roller a bit too aggressively. No other problems and not sure what's causing this one. There are a couple of vein places in Knoxville that advertise on local news but I don't know if they are vascular or cosmetic practices. Might have to do some research if the pain doesn't resolve in a week or so. Having drip irrigation in the pots makes things so much easier. Congrats to DSIL on the whole house generator. Do they have an installation date confirmed yet? I heard they had orders backed up into next year due to high demand. Congrats on the loss. Middle is where I have always lost last. Age hasn't seemed to matter for me. How's the ankle oing today? What kind of beans did you sub for the beef in the pepper dish? How did it turn out?
No word from DB/DSIL, so I don't know what they are planning to do today (yes, it's already afternoon), so I have no clue if I will see them today. Yes, they aren't planners. I have enough to keep me busy. Dale asked for a special tofu recipe, so I have that marinating and also roasted some fresh-from-the-garden zucchini to make into a soup. Weekly load of workout clothes is done and put away. I signed up for a couple of webinars that I need to catch up on, so that will be the afternoon if I don't hear from the out-of-towners.
Hope everyone is having a fine fall Sunday!

Argggg.. Someone called briefly and said we were supposed to be called by a nurse Thursday or Friday to get instructions and give her info before Bob's brief laser eye procedure Monday. No call. No answer to our messages for two days. Not supposed to be aneasthetic other than drops. So we will go earlier for papers if needed and so he is not eating before. This was a great place two years ago.
I have reached a real anger point with medical people and communication. From now on when there is no timely call back, we will show up in person. I am tired of worry and wonder.

Karen, thanks! It was nice to see FSU have a good game and I'm glad UCF was able to pull out a win. I was also glad to see the Aggies win. I saw something about Jimbo being the first former Saban assistant to beat him. I feel your pain on the TX game. FSU lost right at the end in 3 games this year. They were due for some good luck. My middle always shows a weight gain first, so I guess it makes sense that it's the last to go. Age hasn't mattered for me either. Your DB/DSIL sound like my DS/DBIL, lol. Traveling with them can be an interesting experience.
Linda, that is so frustrating! I've found so much going downhill as the big medical groups buy up smaller practices.
Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Hi Chicks. Remember me? LOL. I read the posts but am really tired. I had my first FB live party Thursday night. My part went okay but the hostess still needs $60 in net sales. Most of the ladies she knows are older and I don't think they understand the process. I don'[t know if I mentioned it but I am going to start Mary Kay also. Whether I sell any or not is another question right now.
Karen Sorry about your Horns but what about my Aggies beating Alabama at the last minute. They should have won by more than that. Maybe Jimbo will finally start to earn his enormous salary. My FB feed was full of Gig 'em this morning.
