Welcome to Alcohol Free Is What We Want To Be! .. We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE!
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN? September 5 - October 31
CIRCLE September 5 on the calendar. Now CIRCLE October 31 on the calendar. This is your 8 week AF Halloween challenge. For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself. Organize yourself healthy, organize your grocery shopping, ORGANIZE!
Do you fancy yourself a witch? a ghoul? a ?? How about visualizing yourself as a happier, healthier person? Envision your costumeâŚexcept it wonât be a costume, it will be you!
Being AF isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a truce and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been lousy so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. If you decide to have a drink, donât beat yourself upâŚ.this is a hard journey! Keep in mind you donât have to finish the bottle, you donât have to finish a bag of cookiesâŚyou have controlâŚnow you have to believe it!
Some of us canât have âspiritsâ in the houseâŚthat can take a whole lot of self control. There are lots of tricks and ways to avoid A but essentially many of us bring an OCD attitudeâŚ..usually defined as obsessive compulsive disorder... to stay AF but for this challenge OCD meansâŚ.Ongoing Celebration of Discovery! We can discover and celebrate ourselves!! And we don't need alcohol or excessive food to do it!
So what are you going to be for Halloween? A much healthier, happier person sounds like a great plan and it won't be a costume! Great success!

Doing the laundry yesterday did revive me a bit, but I still spent most of the afternoon on the couch. We had a frozen vegetable quiche from Costco for dinner and I made apple salad to go with it. DH & I watched another episode of La Brea, one of the few programs we watch together. La Brea seems similar to Lost, hopefully there is a plan for the show, I felt like they were making up Lost as they went along.
It's another beautiful day here, may be lawn mowing day.
Carole- I'll have to look for Juno's mud pictures on FB. Yay for being off work on Monday and Tuesday. Glad your dad enjoys being at the townhouse. I don't anticipate working much, maybe just covering my replacement when she takes time off.
Cindy- Thanks for getting us started. Yay for doing some Halloween decorating, your yellow and orange mum sounds beautiful. Yay for karma taking care of the bank president & CFO. So sorry about DS's friend with Covid, these break through cases are troubling. DH has the coverage of the Falcons' London game on, seems to early for football!
Cathy- Glad you are still able to get your reviews done despite the uncertainties of your electricity. I like just looking around at Costco too but DH doesn't have the patience for it. I'll take the lights off the bushes after Halloween since they are orange and purple.

September 26: 199.4 October 3: 199 October 10: 201 Expecting that!!! Back to onederland next week!!! October 17: October 24: October 31/Final weigh in: Good morning all. Had a good day yesterday. Did give in to the pre birthday revelry but not overboard and not today. Talked to friends yesterday about DS move, lots of places I can visit and stay. My friend who now lives in Hawaii but still has their house in Portland was actually in Portland when I sent them a message yesterday. They are deciding if they should sell their house or keep renting it out. I think the cost would be more than DS would want to pay, even thou their stipend would cover it, but it's still been offered as a place to go when they get there while they look. Many things are falling into place so I know this is a good move. We watched some football yesterday, I read, had our beans and rice which turned out well. Today there is a craft show at the convention center, I have the Sunday papers to read and then will make my turkey dinner. DH just made me a giant plate of french toast with strawberries and bacon, should hold me over til dinner!! Just going to make it a good day and enjoy. Hope you all have a nice Sunday. Jan Cathy Glad you got to talk to your daughter and can still download books to read. I'd sort of forgotten about the no sales tax in Oregon, kids will love that! Hope you can get back to Costco someday and get your fix I decided I really like it a lot better than Sam's club. Cindy Glad the "GF" is nice, hope it doesn't turn into a heartbreak or worse! yay for getting some plants. I sure hope DS can get something soon, I'm glad the Karma caught up with the bank managers. I'm sure it will be a football da around here but we aren't loyal to any particular team so it's often just background noise. But better than CNN! Hope you get some cooler weather soon. HOpe your DS friend recovers without too many long term affects. Carole See, it was a good thing to have a muddy dog!! Silver lining, clean bathroom. Do you know anyone doing the Chicago Marathon today? Yay for having 2 days off, any fun plans? Then kids get a BIG housing stipend, it's almost ridiculous, like over $1000 a week each!! But they want to save as much as they can so they can either travel next summer and not work, or someday have money in the bank if they want to buy a house somewhere. Amy Sounds like another beautiful day. Haven't seen any of La Brea. Do you just have front to mow or is there some in the back too? Yep too early for football, that would make a long couch day if I started now Yum, ice cream bar...Klondike? Dove? Want to head out to the craft fair. Will check in later.

Hi all and happy Sunday! Good church service this morning and I'm just relaxing a little before heading back for Motel Ministry. Sundays are busy! I came home and started some deep cleaning in the kitchen. There is a funky odor that I cannot locate! I've run vinegar and baking soda through the garbage disposal and I've got the dishwasher going on a sanitize cycle right now with some vinegar in there and I'm hoping that will fix it. I've checked every place I kept food to make sure there isn't a rotting onion or potato and found nothing. I'm scared that a mouse had gotten somewhere and died but I've seen no signs of a varmint. I have to find whatever it is before the trip because I sure don't want to come home to that!! Sorry for the lack of personals. Will catch up tomorrow. Murphy

Hi girls. Beautiful day here. I basically spent yesterday on the couch. It took me FOREVER to get to sleep. I tossed and turned for hours. Then slept until 9:45. I had such a headache. But today I feel better. DH gave me my B12 shot, so that should help too. Today I was on the organ and the bell choir rang. It was so pretty! I plan on resting this afternoon and then Rylee is spending the night tonight. There will be no resting once she gets here! Lol
Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

Hi all. Just enjoyed our "Thanksgiving" dinner, and of course I feel stuffed but tracked it all, didn't go crazy on the mashed potatoes, my favorite! and we'll have left overs for a few days for sure. Mostly a couch day, crazy football games. Did get out and take a walk around the block and walked the craft fair. disappointing, more vendors, tupperware, home sale jewelry, than actual hand made things. Guess it helped me save my money. Haven't gone to look for shoes yet, maybe tomorrow, didn't want to go on the weekend. DH bought ice cream for dessert and I may indulge in some later this evening, told him no wine and glad he listened!! Just sitting and knitting on an afgan I started long ago. At an easy part where it's 6 rows of back and forth knitting so no thinking involved. Have a nice evening all. Murphy HOpe things went well at motel ministry. Hope you find what's causing the odor!! GG Have fun with Rylee!! church service sounds lovely. Glad you got a better night's sleep.

Hi All,
As predicted it was a football day. Patriots and Bucs won...so much easier when they don't play each other but watched the Patriots cause that is my team. Did more Halloween decorations but have missed a tote, probably thinking it is a Thanksgiving or Christmas box. Will search in the AM. Plumber will be here in the AM so hopefully that job will be easily completed.
We are currently under a tornado watch! Have put the plants under cover along with anything that might blow away!
Company is here...she made dinner...not quite sure what Indian dish it was, but thinking tiki marsala. I just gave her free range of the spice cabinet. Defrosted chicken for the meal. She does not like meat, not cultural thing, just doesn't like it.
Amy, Costco had Hagen Daz ice cream bars on sale...very tasty! I think the football games in London are fun to watch because neither team seems totally invested in winning. Binged on TIME and MIDNIGHT MASS but need to catch up on LaBrea and Impeachment.
Jan, use to love the stipend that DH would get when he was traveling. It is fantastic that they can combine "forces" for a lack of a better word. How was your birthday? Wishing you a happy day for whatever day it was...couldn't quite figure it out!
Murphy, hope you were able to "dispose" of the smell. I sometimes smell something and can't track it down but stuff gets a good cleaning.
GG, hope you are feeling better. Know having Rylee with you will definitely make you feel good!
Cathy, glad you are able to somewhat keep up with the reviews. I agree that Costco is like a candy store...I've bought two skirts there and have bought clothes for my brothers and nephews over the years. Now I try to stick to my list. The store is so close that it could also be my grocery store.
Hi Liz!
Hi Carole!
Going to pay attention to company and DS. Guess she will go home tomorrow. Plumber tomorrow so hopefully one task completed!
Hugs to all, Cindy
