Welcome to Alcohol Free Is What We Want To Be! .. We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE!
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN? September 5 - October 31
CIRCLE September 5 on the calendar. Now CIRCLE October 31 on the calendar. This is your 8 week AF Halloween challenge. For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself. Organize yourself healthy, organize your grocery shopping, ORGANIZE!
Do you fancy yourself a witch? a ghoul? a ?? How about visualizing yourself as a happier, healthier person? Envision your costume…except it won’t be a costume, it will be you!
Being AF isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a truce and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been lousy so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. If you decide to have a drink, don’t beat yourself up….this is a hard journey! Keep in mind you don’t have to finish the bottle, you don’t have to finish a bag of cookies…you have control…now you have to believe it!
Some of us can’t have “spirits” in the house…that can take a whole lot of self control. There are lots of tricks and ways to avoid A but essentially many of us bring an OCD attitude…..usually defined as obsessive compulsive disorder... to stay AF but for this challenge OCD means….Ongoing Celebration of Discovery! We can discover and celebrate ourselves!! And we don't need alcohol or excessive food to do it!
So what are you going to be for Halloween? A much healthier, happier person sounds like a great plan and it won't be a costume! Great success!

DH & I enjoyed walking the nature trail. When we got back I planted a mum by the garage and some from the porch on the east side of the house to see if they'll survive the winter. Helped DH with the yard mowing work and picked at least 15 cherry tomatoes. We have a couple of cucumbers almost ready, the broccoli continues to grow under the netting. Spent the rest of the day on the couch.
I will be working on a report for work that my replacement asked me to help with.
Jan- Hope it was a happy birthday. WTG for blue dot, AIM on Saturday, steps, plans for the next few days. Glad things are falling into place for DS & GF's move to Oregon. Sorry the craft fair was a disappointment, seems like the ones I go to have a lot of vendors too. Glad you enjoyed your turkey dinner, I'm planning one for when DS is here.
Murphy- Hope you enjoyed your busy Sunday & find the source of the odor in the kitchen.
GG- Glad you felt better after a day of rest. Enjoy having Rylee.
Cindy- I am happy for you that your teams won. It was nice of your company to make dinner. Hope it's a quick fix for the plumber.

Good morning all! I was totally wiped out after Motel Ministry yesterday. Remember that I stepped back from actually going to the motels to serve food because it was just too much for me physically for me. But I'm finding that even just helping package all the meals is physically hard too! We packaged up 600 bowls of chili, 200 salads, 600 baked potatoes and over 600 portions of crackers and cornbread! All in a little over an hour! By the time I got home, it was all I could do to crawl on the couch! LOL. It's still a gift to be able to participate though! I woke up really early this morning but I don't have much planned for the day. I do want to make a run to the library because I hear that I can make check out books on CD for my trip. I'm just not sure that they would let me check them out for over a month! Keeping my fingers crossed. I'll be back after while. Murphy

Good morning. Just had a nice day yesterday, did what I wanted and didn't overdo it eating. Had some Halo for dessert and stayed in my points. See if today I can get a few more steps than yesterday. Mini Goals. We need to go down to the city office at some time today to sign off on our driveway project. No other plans than that. Our contractor said he just doesn't really have time to put in our basement floors and it's hard on his knees so he has found us a guy that will do it. Hopefully sooner that later so we can finish that project. We currently have a lot of moulding to paint for finishing off the walls. Have plenty of leftovers to eat for the next few days, will keep me out of the grocery store!! Pretty sure we'll be driving up to the cabin tomorrow to close up, unless it's really raining. Supposed to be the warmest day of the week and will be good to have that done. Hope you all have a great Monday. Jan
Cindy Hope the plumber comes and can finish quickly. Glad your teams won, mind did too. That was nice of the GF to make dinner, is it GF now? Hope there was no real tornado or damage.
Amy It's crazy with mums, there are the ones they often sell at stores that are considered annuals, or you can get the hardy mums that come back. But maybe your winters are mild enough that they all will survive. Hope so. I'm sure DS will appreciate the early "Thanksgiving" and fun for your family to all be together to share it. Glad your garden is still thriving.
Murphy That is so many meals, yay for being able to help even if it's exhausting. Take a nice relaxing day and take care of you. I think most libraries now do let you keep things for a long time, or you can renew online if it's not a new release. Hope you find some good things to listen to.
Hi to all. Will check in later. Off for coffee!!

Good morning! Not much to report here, went to DD's yesterday; my niece and nephew were visiting, and Elyse wanted me to go over. I stayed for a few hours but just got tired and wanted to come home. I drank wine yesterday, big mistake, because I always get heartburn or acid reflex when I do have wine. It kept me up for quite a while. Today I am planning on starting a sweater for Isabel after I get back from the market. Other than that not much planned, however I do plan on being AF today, I need to try at least. Oh, I forgot, I did get on my bike yesterday, if only for 5 minutes, but I got on. I moved the bike back in my room because I finally cleaned out drawers and threw out a lot, and was able to put away clothes that needed to get into drawers. Got rid of the chair that was holding a stack of clothes, then was able to move the bike in. Sorry for lack of personals, will try to do better.

Well this turned into a busy morning! I had chipped a front tooth sometime in the last couple of weeks. It wasn't sensitive or painful at all but I was really self-conscious about it. So I called the dentist this morning and they were able to work me in right away! So I had to scurry around and get ready to go there. I've never had what I would consider "pretty" teeth but I just didn't want anything to get worse while I was on vacation! After that, I went to the library and got signed up and was tickled to find out that either renting CD's or downloading a book wouldn't be any problem. They have automatic renewals up to 3 times I think! I didn't check anything out today but I'll go back next week and try it out to make sure I know how to listen to something downloaded to my phone through the car speakers. I am soooooooo not tech savvy! LOL. Then I went to donate a small load of purses I cleaned out of the closet.
Amy - I think I found the source of the odor in the kitchen. The underside of the rubber thing on the garbage disposal was pretty yucky and I hadn't thought to clean that off. I'm still not 100% certain that a mouse hasn't died in the wall but it does smell a whole lot better in there!
Jan - I am so tickled to have found the books on CD in the library! That is going to make the trip so much more enjoyable!
Liz - Yay for getting on the bike! What color is Isabel's sweater going to be?
Cathy - the scale will move! You are doing all the right things!
Cindy - that was nice of you to turn your kitchen over to your company to experiment!
Not sure what I'll get into for supper. I need to get in the kitchen myself! Everyone have a great rest of your Monday! Murphy
