WELCOME TO REGULAR & NEW POSTERS! This thread is full of encouragement & suggestions. New people, welcome! We encourage you to jump in. One day, one hour, one minute at a time is easier to handle than a week, etc. Lurkers, join in
Our goal is 21 days Binge Free (studies show 21 days to break old habits & start new ones!). Whether we make 21 or one, the point is to learn as we go, replace binges with other things to help us through stressful times. Some days are harder than others & we may slip; that's OK. The Binge Monster is in the shadows waiting to pounce. Hopefully this thread provides inspiration, courage, & support to become a Binge Survivor!
You may see different folks on different "Cycles." A Cycle is a 21 day block of consecutive binge-free days. Stay with us for as many cycles as you'd like.Everyone's definition of a BINGE is different. The Oxford Dictionary defines a binge as a spree of eating and drinking. To many of us, BINGE is defined as "eating without dignity." The dictionary defines "dignity" as a calm and serious manner or style, showing suitable formality or indicating that one deserves respect. Only you can define what a binge is for you. Going over points, as long as it was done with dignity and journaled (thereforeacknowledged and "owned") isn't binging--it is up to you to decide.
SPECIAL THANKS TO LESLIE5609 for starting this challenge on the Out of Control Board, in August '02, and thanks to all who keep it going.

C120D7, 1264 calories, 23 purple points, nutritional values fair to middlin', played pool but no other exercise. I'm considering a chiropractor but want to wait until I'm well past the prednasone. Life is good right now.

So here I am sitting here well after midnight again. Then I'm falling asleep in the middle of the day. Was so bored on Thursday.
I cried while watching the memorial service for my pastor on Sat. (Fr. Tom Murphy who was four months younger than me), but I think it started as tears of joy at seeing Father Rice, one of our retired priests, who was the principal celebrant of the mass. He was doing so much but then started to have physical problems and his doctor told him he needed to slow down. That was at least two years ago.
The assigned administrator Monseigneur Mathieu celebrated the Sunday mass I attended yesterday and told us we should expect a new pastor around the beginning of the year. Hopefully we will see a second parochial vicar before that. I think we have seven churches in our parish and even with a pastor and two vicars we were getting assistance from the retired priests that live in our area.
I finally got to skate again Sunday. I was on the ice for 1 hr and 15 mins and had two lessons in that time a 30 minute private one, and a 25 minute one in which the other skater, the coach, and I were the only people on the ice. I'm setting myself up to be skating Sun., Tues., and Thurs., through the second week of Dec. Thurs. will have two group lessons, a 25 minute edge class, followed by a 10 minute break for the ice to be resurfaced, followed by a 25 minute skills lesson, and then 20 minutes of practice time. I'm not sure yet if I will be able to get in a private lesson on Sun. or not yet. I had been taking the private lesson on Thurs. but that was when the Edge class was on Sun. No way do I want to attempt three lessons on the same day, plus the ice time isn't set up for that on Thurs. now.
Has anyone else bought "The Shift" the new book by WW's Scientific Officer? I haven't started reading it yet but I'm hearing good things in the virtual WS I've been attending. I did glance at the chapter titles and it's a changing the way you think about things (including yourself) book.
I have a stack of about seven books I really need to get going on. I'm in the middle of the one by the 99 yr old survivor of Pearl Harbor who was in one of the navy patrol squadrons that eventually moved to the former base here. I was standing next to him when the picture was taken.
Eating-wise I'm still going with too much chocolate and ice cream. I was up to 128.5 today, didn't weigh myself yesterday, and had a rising weight on Sat. Shorter walks with the dog and the skating have been my only exercise.
OK it is now after 1 am and mass is at 8.

I’m practicing some self-care this week: I go to the chiropractor today, I’m getting a B12 shot tomorrow (in hopes it helps with some of my fatigue, plus I scheduled a foot soak that’s supposed to remove toxins—not sure about that), and a long overdue mammogram on Thursday. I despise appointments but I’m glad to get these out of the way.
Nancy, I looked back through Coleen’s facebook posts. Her husband had been in and out of the hospital for over a month, some of the time at Oklahoma Heart Hospital. That’s good news re: the aides!
Kathy, I noticed 2 positives in your post: first, you’re still practicing yoga and getting some cardio in. Second, you left half a candy bar. I’m not trying to be funny, I’m serious. I would have devoured all 3 once I started. Would you consider logging your food without assigning points to it for a week or 2?
Lori, my former SIL had a terrible labor and delivery because she was drinking far too much water. Do you track how much you’re drinking? Hopefully your sodium levels even out.
Louise, I’m sorry to hear of your pastor. I hope you finally got some sleep.

Did a little better last night - woke up at about 1:30 AM, had a lightly buttered slice of 647 and 2 social tees so 105 calories and 3 points. I weighed in at 142 this morning so yesterday's 139 was just a fluke as expected. I woke up again at about 4:30 AM but had nothing to eat (NSV).
Louise - How nice that you're back to skating. Enjoy!
Jan - Good that you're taking care of yourself. You were right. The prednasone is starting to kick in.

Hi Everyone! I was tossing and turning all night but thankful that I'm feeling pretty good today! Nice to have some energy....
Nancy, Love reading Life is Good!! Glad to see the nighttime improvement and hear the prednasone is kicking in - thinking it means your foot is feeling better!! All positive!!
Jan, Self-care is so important! I may have to look into the B12... I'm not going to pay too much attention to the water...I drink at least 48 oz and try to get in a little more, which is not too much since I drink a lot of coffee - plus I have to drink a lot of water before giving blood or my veins don't cooperate.....
Louise, So nice to see a busy skating schedule!!
Kathy, Glad to see the exercise is going strong!! I'm sure it helps get you through your busy days...that darn sugar is so additive...Delayed Gratification helped me alot with controlling the sweets. If I see anything I want during the day, I save it for that night and mindfully eat it as my last snack. When I use to eat it during the day, it was just too hard to fight the sugar urges (also helped knowing I had a treat waiting)....maybe worth trying...

Lori - Even better - the new delightful night time aide just picked up Saturday and Sunday days. That means for the time being at least we're covered 7 days and 7 nights. I was beginning to think it impossible. What a coincidence - just today at table tennis someone was saying how she has to drink lots of water before a blood test so the veins will pop out. I never heard that before but will try it, especially since I have such a hard time peeing on demand. Live and learn.

I was relieved to see my temperature back down to my normal of around 97.7 today. I had over 99 (on Sunday) which I equate to 100 for those with 98.something normally. I called in and was told not to worry about it in the absence of any other symptoms. At skating I mostly worked on stroking and basic moves today with a small bit of time taken to working on the two foot turn using checking. I actually was having fun remembering what doing that well felt like. Checking involves turning your body with your arms out to initiate the turn and then snapping it back to complete it. What I'm not getting yet is any backwards motion coming off the turn; I just pretty much stop. Jan ,I went to bed around 1:30 and got up at 6. So it's 11:15 now, heading for bed. Lori , I've sort of tried to delay snacks for bedtime like you mentioned to Kathy. Right now I think I will go with not bringing the stuff into the house for a while along with making sure I have enough fruits there. I eat veggies too but like the sweetness of the fruit better.
