People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself āEnough is enough and Iām getting in shape!ā On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

Bridgette seems totally fine now. She still howls like crazy at Fred when he eats something but heās gotten a lot better in refusing to share. As I kept telling him once she knows she isnāt getting any she stops but throws herself down in her dog bed and pouts. At those times she is just like Bailey! The difference is Bailey gives up pretty quickly once she realizes no food is being shared.
I had a pleasant surprise yesterday. I was playing a game on my iPad and all of a sudden I was getting a FaceTime request and it was from my oldest DGD Maddie! She never FaceTimes me so I answered right away. She is the one who is in vet school at VTech. She was sitting outside under a tree and wanted to introduce me to her new dog Cooper. Heās a four year old Border Collie. He had been used in training the students on how to properly care for a dog. Once the class is done the students have the opportunity to adopt but are carefully checked first and told what to expect from the breed so there are no surprises and no returns. They come from the local animal shelter and Cooper and her had bonded the first day. Since her apartment wonāt allow pets she has him at her sisterās house and since she has a class from 8-12 and then lab from 1-5 and her sister has her classes in the afternoon he is not alone for long as her sisterās roommates are in and out all day and love him. They do crate him if heās alone so no damage can happen. Then in the spring her sister is doing a study abroad for the semester and Maddie will move into her house as the apartment she is in she is sub-letting from a girl who is doing an internship in DC but will be back for the spring semester so everything was right for her to do this. Cooper is adorable and just from the interaction on FaceTime I can tell he adores her! After showing him to me we had a wonderful visit and I loved it as we never get one on one time.
After hearing yesterday that the watchman procedure is a go and already approved by Humana I think both Fred and I relaxed and were all of a sudden very tired. He blamed it on the cooler weather but I think the stress of not knowing had been lifted and our bodies just wanted to rest! He said he is going to golf Saturday as even though it will be on the cool side the course they are playing is very easy and he will rent a cart. We have a few things to get at the store today plus he wants to get the ingredients for a dip his friend made that is delicious. I will hold off on laundry until tomorrow while heās golfing.
Karen E I put out a friend request to you on Facebook. Just wanted to give you a heads up so you would know itās me and not a hacker. āŗļø

Hi all!
Just a quick question before I get my day started. Are the members of this group getting ready to transfer to Facebook? Jerry and I basically share a Facebook page but I'm not on it much. However, I don't want to lose contact with you wonderful people you've all been such a strength to me when times get trying.

No Pat but some of us are friends on Facebook. Several of us have had an actual meet n greet in person at different times. Iām not quite sure how to give you Facebook information here on this thread safely. But anyway we are not transitioning to there.
Sandy fun to hear from DGK isnāt it. Two of ours are in their last and hardest semester in college. I think Iāll reach out to them today and text them. They must be under a lot of pressure. Both really smart though.
I need to paint some closets but I just canāt get started. We did put some of the collectibles in the buffet yesterday. So that was a lift.
B - Oats, blueberries, flaxseed, walnuts, almond milk L - left over soup D - roasted veg. If itās nice Iāll have Don grill some salmon And this is just a framework, I eat lots more.
I need bread so Iāll either bake it or go to the store.

Pat I do have a Facebook page but I have no intention of leaving this thread. I am friends on Facebook with some of the people here.
Hereās a recipe I thought some of you might like.
Itās kind of spicy because of jalapeƱos but you can cut back on the amount. I donāt think it should be cut out entirely as it could affect the taste. But a friend of Fredās made it and itās delicious!
4 oz can of diced green chilies - drained 4 oz can of diced jalapeƱos - drained 15 oz can of corn peppers - drained 1 pkg of ranch dressing 8 oz cream cheese 8 oz 1/3 less fat cream cheese
Mix in a bowl and serve with taco chips. I think you could use veggies as well. I think the two kinds of cream cheese is to cut back a bit on calories and fat.

Good morning all.
We had lots of rain last night and still more to come today. It's going to be a very soggy Friday.
Sandy, that's wonderful news about Fred! And what a sweet surprise from your DGD! That recipe sounds wonderful. I'm assuming the corn peppers are corn with added peppers.
It will be a quiet day here and with all this rain it will be a good day to relax with a good book and a cup of tea.

Good morning!
Just checking in, quickly.
Sounds like a good plan on a rainy day, Vicki.
Sandy, what a nice visit with DGD. Havenāt heard of corn peppers?
Yesterday our Senior Yoga was really Pilates. A wonderful, taxing class. The warm pool had Partners (those needing assistance) and others working with counselors. Itās so great to see everyone enjoying the pool. I wasnt up for the cooler lap pool so I did errands.
Wed. night I had slept from 11:15 until 9 a.m. with a quick break in between. I paid for it last night as I was awake until 3 am. I was having troublesome dreams and woke up at 9 am. I have to go to Drumming at the Sr Center snd hopefully Iāll be up for Sr Fitness later. That instructor gives a good workout albeit rather halter skelter.
Iād best be up and out. TGIF, I love weekends!

I hadnāt heard of them either but like Vicki said Fred looked it up and it looks like itās canned corn with peppers in it.

Thanks for the recipe Sandy. Itās a good football snack.
I definitely wonāt share the āFlush the Fatā soup recipe. My own version of tossing veg in the crockpot with broth is better.
Have any of you done the Cologuard? Not a pleasant task but better than colonoscopy and the prep. Now I have to find a UPS drop off.
I really need to get fabric cut for Kallieās doll quilt for Christmas. One thing about me, if Iām intimidated I procrastinate.

Sandy, I'm so happy to hear that the Watchman is a "go" for Fred. That is great news! The worst part of any medical concern is the "not knowing." It's all downhill from here!
Yesterday my drywall man spent the entire day removing my downstairs popcorn ceilings and patching the ceiling in preparation of new "knock down" ceilings. My house is 50 years old and when he took off the popcorn he found a lot of imperfections -- including patches made over the years. He did a beautiful job though. It is hard to find good workmen and Juan was recommended to me by a dear friend who has been remodeling her house to sell it... Worked out to my benefit!
Nearly 2 years ago a terrible storm damaged my house -- eventually the master bedroom wall (second floor) and a first floor extension's roof had to be completely replaced -- there were beyond repair. That took forever to do but it made me realize it was time to update other parts of the house. I'm getting rid of my popcorn ceilings, repainting the entire interior (we've been here over 11 years and I have no idea when the current paint job was done but it definitely needs a fresh coat!). After all that I'm tearing out the carpet on the stairs and upstairs (my downstairs is all tile). I plan to install luxury vinyl... and new baseboards, too.
Phew. It's been 5 months waiting on a contractor who never did show up so I had to find new ones....
OK. B: Premier Protein in coffee and banana (do you see a trend here, LOL). L: Either a turkey sandwich on Nature's Own 1 point bread or hummus with PopCorner FLEX chips. TBD. D: Cube steak with peppers and onions. Maybe mushrooms before they go bad! S: Popcorn or Enlightened Ice Cream.

Good Morning!
Another gorgeous morning in the 70s that will turn into the 90s later. I think I am going to take advantage of a pool day, since cold weather will be coming in the next month or two. Many years ago I used to teach water aerobics, so am thinking I will do a little water aerobics today. Our pool is not heated and that will at least make the cold water tolerable.
Sandy, Thanks for the Mexican Dip recipe. I bet it would even be good on a wrap with some lettuce. I will make it when my brother comes in 2 weeks. That was a nice Facetime surprise from your DGD!
Pat, Some of us are on FB but we do like this forum. We tried meeting in a group on FB and it was just to complicated. I love this forum. It has worked out well and we even get newbies on occasion. In the FB group you didn't get that.
Sharon, I did Cologuard a couple of years ago and it is so much more convenient. I received a similar test from Everlywell from Humana. This was unsolicited and I have no plans of doing it because I had read online those tests can be inaccurate.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! So glad to be Facebook is in addition to here. You ladies have been my strength so many times. I'd be lost without you!
Sandy that so nice of your DGD to call and visit. What a wonderful surprise. That recipe sounds wonderful but the spicy would tear up my stomach. As I've gotten older I can't eat spicy. The joys of getting older.
Sharon I've used Cologuard a couple of times. Like you said not a pleasant task but oh so much better than a colonoscopy.
Another busy day today. We have a company coming out to do an estimate for a new fence. Then I need to make a grocery store run, then pickup grandkids from school. Need both a haircut and new shoes but no time today to do either.
Tomorrow I head into Orlando to take our Omaha family to the airport. Hope their flight is on time leaving.

Shragae, I detest popcorn ceilings and they do hide a lot of imperfections. Updating can be a mess but the rewards are so worth it! Mike & his son do new construction and it is very difficult finding reliable contractors and getting building materials. Today they are going to Brandon to meet with an architectural draftsperson for their next blueprint.

Sharon I did do cologard and it was covered by my insurance but it came back positive so still had to do the colonoscopy which had a $250 co-pay since it was now considered diagnostic instead of wellness and turned out the cologard result was a false positive so would have been better to just do the colonoscopy from the start.
We did get the corn with peppers and itās really like buying a can of Mexicorn. We found it in the Hispanic food aisle along with the can of diced jalapeƱos and the can of diced green chilies.

Hello, friends. This morning, I went on a brisk 3-mile walk on one of the golf courses here. Many walkers, sponsored by the community. I started talking with a really nice couple who moved here at about the same time I did. I haven't walked that far in a long time and it felt great. I already have 7500 steps in. YAY.
Going for a mani-pedi later. Tomorrow is a luau and fireworks. I'll be going with my realtor's sister. Another bargain...$10. It's a gorgeous day for it. Sunday will be dinner and a retro 60s band at DD's community. Busy weekend! Looking forward to all of it.
Wonderful news about Fred, Sandy. I agree. Not knowing is very stressful. Also good about Bridgette and delightful about your DGD. I know you are walking around with a smile on your face. That recipe looks yummy--I love spicy. Thank you. I wonder how it would taste with ff plain Greek yogurt instead of the dressing and cream cheese to cut down further on the fat. Or maybe a mixture of the yogurt and cream cheese.
Vicki, enjoy that book and tea. One of my favorite things to do.
I haven't done Pilates in years, Marlo. Funny, that's not one of the things they offer here. I don't think I could do it at this point. I do love Gentle Yoga.
Sharon, what a great gift for Kallie! She will love it.
I love the luxury vinyl floors, Shragae. Great that you found a good contractor.
I had done Cologard a number of times when I was younger, but I need to be checked more often with a colonoscopy and do not want to take any chances with that.
Ruth, when you said cold weather was coming, I had to look up average temps in my area. The average temps are below 70 from December through the beginning of March. I'd better get more outside swimming in! I am so happy to have the indoor pools here too.
I agree, Pat. FB did not work nearly as well as this does. Posting here and seeing you all on zoom does wonders for my state of mind.
Have a great Friday, all!
