Welcome to Alcohol Free Is What We Want To Be! .. We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE!
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN? September 5 - October 31
CIRCLE September 5 on the calendar. Now CIRCLE October 31 on the calendar. This is your 8 week AF Halloween challenge. For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself. Organize yourself healthy, organize your grocery shopping, ORGANIZE!
Do you fancy yourself a witch? a ghoul? a ?? How about visualizing yourself as a happier, healthier person? Envision your costume…except it won’t be a costume, it will be you!
Being AF isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a truce and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been lousy so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. If you decide to have a drink, don’t beat yourself up….this is a hard journey! Keep in mind you don’t have to finish the bottle, you don’t have to finish a bag of cookies…you have control…now you have to believe it!
Some of us can’t have “spirits” in the house…that can take a whole lot of self control. There are lots of tricks and ways to avoid A but essentially many of us bring an OCD attitude…..usually defined as obsessive compulsive disorder... to stay AF but for this challenge OCD means….Ongoing Celebration of Discovery! We can discover and celebrate ourselves!! And we don't need alcohol or excessive food to do it!
So what are you going to be for Halloween? A much healthier, happier person sounds like a great plan and it won't be a costume! Great success!

A lighter version of myself and maybe someone's fairy godmother September 5: 198.8 September 12: 199 September 19: 199 at least holding steady! September 26: 199.4 October 3: 199 October 10: 201 Expecting that!!! Back to onederland next week!!! October 17: October 24: October 31/Final weigh in: Good morning. Not sure why the end of my week I always go crazy with the food and snacks. Maybe to knock down the wine witch or maybe just boredom but need to get it BOT today. DH wants lasagna for dinner so I need to plan my day around that. Sounds like a big salad for lunch. Went to knitting and enjoyed the visit. A few of the ladies were missing and so decided to not go out to lunch after. Should have made my eating better but just got into treats when I stopped at the grocery to get dinner things. The guy who's going to put in the basement floor came yesterday to check it out, guess he can start around Nov. 1. Maybe by Christmas we'll have a nice new place to hang out, maybe put a tree down there. DS was supposed to be hitting the road this morning early, will be waiting for him to check in at some point. He should arrive here tomorrow late afternoon. Can't wait. Sure we won't be seeing him for any of the holidays as they'll just be getting settled out west, so have to make the most of our few days. No other big plans for today, probably some cat hair abatement and bathroom cleaning. Hope you all have a great Friday. Jan GG You had a busy day, it's amazing that it's been 3 years, not just because you're AF but because how long everyone has been chatting on this site!!! I know it just has to happen one day at a time and I have to stop listening to that evil voice that says you can handle just one or two. You all inspire me and I'll get there!! DS doesn't have to start until Nov 15 but the GF starts on the 2nd. DH was much better yesterday, or maybe I was much better and stayed out of his hair Helps when I get out and do things too. Yay for a blue dot day!! Cindy HOpe the thermostat is the fix. I think my sis finally checked that after going months with no oven. That was the issue. We will all be waiting to hear about DS new job. Maybe with the new work, longer drive etc there will be less time for the GF? DS will only be here about 3 days but we'll make them count. Another good reason to stay AF and be able to stay awake, either for talking or playing games Now I need to figure out a few other easy pictures to paint on the other shutters. Maybe a firepit or something for the livingroom one. It just makes it easier to put them back up on the correct window in the fall. We would write on the back which went where but it would fade or wear off. Liz Yay for getting to make cute baby things now. The shoes sound adorable, can't wait to see them. I painted the designs on, not a very steady hand but fine for what it is! A little on the bike every few days will soon become routine. Retail therapy works, but also liked your FB post about just having a less commercial Christmas!!! Cathy Hope you're able to get the news when your SIS surgery is done. Prayers for her. Murphy Hope all is good with you. Is Carolyn feeling any better? Carole Thanks for checking in. Does Ty have any games this weekend? Amy Thanks for getting us started. Maybe you're out enjoying your morning walk. Enjoy your evening with DS tonight. Will check in later.

Time Management Accountability: 4, put together a media shelf and a rocking chair Number Of Days AF (mostly alcohol free since August 16, 2006): 5535; ANIM: 1 (021221) What are you going to be for Halloween? Hopefully a better, fitter version of me, although I like Cathy's magical fairy queen idea! September 5: 175.2 September 12: 174 September 19: 173.2 September 26: 174.6 October 3: 173.6 October 10: 173.8 October 17: October 24: October 31/Final weigh in: Happy Halloween! and congrats to your new self! A lot of posts yesterday- love it! DH and I walked at the lake and did a loop through an adjacent neighborhood and were sad to see they were cutting down all the trees in the front yards. They weren't huge trees as it is a fairly new neighborhood. We're hoping to see someone to ask the reason why. When we got back, I got busy assembling a media tower to store my exercise DVD's in the basement. That went pretty well so I decided to try to put together one of the rocking chairs that have been sitting in their shipping boxes all summer. It went together surprisingly well, it would have been easier with DH's help, but he was out and about doing errands. The rocking chairs are for the lower porch and look really nice. The afternoon was spent on the couch. When deciding which movie to watch last night, I realized that all the "Christmas in July" recordings are about to expire and be deleted. But I guess it doesn't matter b/c Hallmark is starting their Countdown to Christmas in about a week. We've been to walk at the park/farmer's market already today and just met with a landscaper about the back yard slope/erosion issue, aka Weed Hill. We like what he had to say and he's had several recommendations on the neighborhood FB page. Hopefully his quote is substantially less than the other one for the soil basket. I don't have any big plans for today other than get DH to help me put the other rocking chair together. Cindy- Hope DS is feeling better, yay for starting the new job on Monday. Yay for the insurance check being issued. Are you going to get a vision correction lens with your cataract surgery? The gf? sounds interesting, I would be concerned about the cultural differences and issues with her family, but perhaps neither one is really interested in something that long term. Sorry about the plumbing $$$ and the oven not working. Hopefully a new thermostat will fix it. Jan- WTG at least moving 11/11. Yay for your thrift store finds & the GF being reunited with the puppy. I don't see any signs of broccoli yet, but the leaves are getting bigger on the plants that haven't been eaten. Here is the link to the listing on Amazon for the plant stand: www.amazon.com/dp/B091YP8BBC?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_detailsLiz- Yay for sleeping well, AIM, eating pretty well, setting up a savings account for Isabel, and retail therapy. The sweater sounds really pretty. Carole- Hi! That was cool about your dad's duffle bag. GG- Woohoo for 3 years AF, blue dot, keeping busy. Cathy- Wishing you well also!

Jan- I have the same problem with going off the rails with food at the end of the week. But the scale is going down slowly, so maybe it's not so bad. Enjoy your visit with DS and hope you've got floors before Christmas.

Hi all. Made myself go up to the mall to walk as it was gray and cold here this morning. Wasn't feeling it but once there it was good. And surprise, they were having a little antique sale in the hallways so I got to spy after walking. Then on to a little retail therapy at a few other thrift store, found some fun items for the cabin and a Christmas "bucket" that I'll make an arrangement in for the holidays. Next to Walmart, bought myself a label maker, I had had one at school and it disappeared one day. Going to label a bunch of scrapbook supplies and folders I have. Getting my noodles ready to put together my lasagna. DS is on his way, he said he got a bit later start but didn't have anywhere he had to be so will stop this evening when he gets tired. Got my new shoes in the mail today!!!! Yay. I got Brooks Ghost 13, I have been buying brooks for the last few years and just really like them. Getting harder to find and may have to start looking at some other options for next pair!! No other big news, just hanging in for today and then new week tomorrow. I didn't buy any treats at the store or have any detours for lunch! NSV for me. Going to try making some oatmeal pumpkin muffins I saw on connect. You use monkfruit sweetner and unsweetened applesauce, we'll see. Hope you all have a nice evening. Jan
Amy Where did you get the rockers from? Are they painted a color or natural wood. SOunds like you had a good morning. Have fun tonight. Hope the landscaper can solve the erosion problem.

Hi All!
Semi quiet day, more rain and cooler temps. GF's birthday is today so she was over, queso and chips for snacks, a spicy Mexican dinner, and waiting to see if we will have cake and ice cream. DS bought a small cake and a pint of ice cream. She is staying the night but going home early tomorrow. She cried happy tears. She was overwhelmed that DS and I would celebrate her birthday. As I said, she is very sweet.
Jan, yay for DS arriving tomorrow! and yay for making yourself walk. My steps have been lousy this week. Another yay for getting your shoes today! I had to look up the brand. Lasagna sounds good!
Amy, I wish they would not cut down the trees when building new houses. Sounds like you had a great time building furniture. The rocking chairs sound wonderful. Will they need to be painted? I hope the landscaper comes in with a reasonable quote. I'm seriously considering the vision correction lenses. My brother who has had both eyes done went with them and thinks I should too. I know $$ will come out of my pocket but it might be cost effective over the long run.
Hopefully this will post. It seems like the internet is wonky (Again!)
Hugs to all, Cindy
Finally the internet is back on!

Sister Update: My sister had the hysterectomy yesterday. It was cancer but they believe it is not the type that spreads...they wait for pathology report. The tumor broke during surgery so they cleaned her pelvis well, did a radical hysterectomy, removed her omentum, and appendix but left her lymph nodes in place. They will get the pathology report then decide on whether or not to do chemotherapy. She should be on the mend and healing and hopefully sleeps well tonight. She is four years younger than I am. Fingers and toes crossed, positive energy being sent her way, waiting for more information.
Read your posts. Need to start lunch soon so will not do personals today. Lunch will be spinach, bulgur, onions, and black eyed peas. Hubby will eat his with pita bread and I will have it as is.
