This thread is for anyone that has been away from healthy eating, had a gain and is recommitting. We accept all forms of healthy eating here, whatever that means to you. We touch base daily for accountability and to encourage one another. This is a judgment free zone.
We all struggle to get the weight off and keep it off. Sometimes this is a challenge, but we never give up and that is the key. Regardless of our situation or where we are in reaching our goal, we count on talking to each other every day and are blessed to have one another as friends.
All are welcome here.

Good morning friends. We made it to Friday! Yay!
Not much happening here, DH left a little while ago he's going to hang out at his fave coffee shop, then he has an appointment to donate platelets (he's O Neg, the universal donor so he gets called constantly), then later than normal lunch with the old bosses - they weren't available until 1. So pretty much just me and CC for the better part of the day.
About the only exciting thing for me right now is my weather forecast. Lows in the 40s tonight and tomorrow night and weekend highs in the low 60s!! Originally they'd said high 60s but supposedly cooler now. I'm so excited to see that cooler weather. It's really going to feel like fall!
Jill - I hope you were able to have a relaxing evening.
Susie - You're right, I don't think I've ever made a Costco trip that I'd call fun, relaxing or even stress-free. Haha! But, yes - the trip is out of the way, about the only positive I can come up with. Ha!
Absolutely almost everything we bought had increased in price since the last time we were there. There are a couple cuts of fresh meat that I've been purchasing routinely for years that were fully DOUBLE what they were the last time we shopped. I didn't buy them. DH told me I should have gone ahead and got them, as prices are probably going to continue to rise - but I just couldn't see spending that much. I mean, if I'm going to spend $20+ for a single ribeye then I expect somebody else to cook it for me, serve it to me and do clean up afterwards as well. Lol
Anyway, I hope everybody has a really good Friday to and starts off the weekend with a positive vibe. BBL

Good morning.
The retirement lunch was fun yesterday. This tech has worked for the company for 40 years - so it is basically the only job he has ever had. He got married and had children later in life and he runs a peanut farm in his "free time". His boys are 10 and 12 so he is looking forward to retirement. It is so interesting to talk to these guys who have been with the company for so long. They have seen so much in their time here. I also enjoy getting to see my techs and just getting to hang out with them in a relaxed type of environment.
I think it would be kind of cool to see a black bear on our property along the tree line - obviously I wouldn't have any way to keep them from coming closer. Fortunately the area for the dogs is all fenced in so hopefully one would not be able to get inside the fence with them. We did recently hear of a dog in our area being attacked and killed by a black bear, plus a farm lost a couple of goats to one So the black bear is welcome to the corn but needs to stay away from my dogs.
Lora I am sorry about your Costco trip and that M acted like you should be doing back flips. I have a confession to make - and this is going to sound bad. I never pay attention to the price of stuff mostly. If I need it, I need it and I get it. Especially grocery items. My mom would always asked me how much I paid for say eggs at the store, and I never knew - I just knew I needed eggs, they had eggs and I bought them.
We have a small piece of land in NC that my Dad deeded to my sister and I after my mom passed away. I think it is maybe 4 acres. it is in the woods - and the front has a huge farm field in front of it. We lived there for a couple of years when I was in high school. My parents kept a camper there for years and would go stay there. The area does not have any type of internet access or cable TV. R and I have talked about putting a mobile home on the property - it is already set up with electric, well and septic although I am sure some work would need to be done - it hasn't been used in years. It would be a great place for Pop to go and spend some time and I wouldn't hate going there and spending time. It is the area all of my Dad's siblings live in and I have a lot of cousins there. My Pop's mother owned 200 acres and leased a big portion of the property to a farmer when she was living. Various parts of the family have different tracks of it now - and the farm land has been sold off.
Susie I hope you are having a good Friday.
Jill I hope you were able to have your relaxing Thursday evening last night.
Waving to Janet and Robin.
R and I are supposed to go to a concert tomorrow night - it is an outdoor concert and it is supposed to rain - I hope it doesn't rain but I am looking forward to the concert.

Jana - Maybe I should have specified...these were not cuts of meat that we "need". Just ones I like. Lol. They have fantastic ribeye at Costco, but spending almost $100 for the 4 pack was just not something I was willing to do. At least not when I know I can get it at a much more reasonable price closer to home. The other was a full slab of pork belly. I can get it from my local family owned farm that raises quality pastured pork for much less, so that's the route I'll take for those. I was hoping to really add to our little freezer, but did so with mostly ground beef and a huge whole pork loin that I cut into thick cut chops. I also got a couple of really nice chuck roasts for a good price I think that's what I'll be making for Football Saturday. IDK how tall your dog fence is but black bear are VERY good climbers. But with that being said, they're also notoriously shy and not really known to be aggressive. Not like their much larger and scarier cousins anyway.
IDK if we'll ever find exactly what we're looking for as far as property is concerned. But if we do, and it doesn't already have a livable structure on it, we've discussed putting a travel trailer on it. Not a driveable RV, but a pull behind. Then even if the property wasn't set up for electric, water, septic...etc. We'd still be able to cook with LP, hook up to a small generator and have an onboard water supply, etc. It would be like a camping get-away spot until we made a decision of exactly what we wanted to do with the future. We'll see what comes up. And in the mean time I enjoy the hunt. Lol

Lora the vinyl part of the fence is 6ft tall and the black iron part of the fence is probably 4 1/2 ft tall. I didn't really think about them being able to climb over the fence.
You know, I can't find pork belly anywhere here. I always look when I go to the store but I can never find it at all. Well I found it one time a year or so ago at Sam's club.
I had to get a new computer for work because my old one is falling apart - it is updating now and it is making everything super slow. I am leaving a bit early today because I want to get my hair cut - so hopefully by the time I come back on Monday it will be all updated...........

Hi Everyone...well, I thought today was going to be a free day with nothing much to do since my gym class was cancelled....right (eye roll). I did walk with DD though. It didn't take long before I got a call to sub in a Hand & Foot game, so I will be off in a few for that. I ran to ALDI, got home and realized I got the wrong thing, so back I went - lol. DH went to his aqua work out alone (since his trainer is out of town) and now he is off to an LLI class.
Lora - how great of Mark to donate platelets. Ya know, I was going to say, you may as well have bought the meat because the price will no doubt just keep going up, but then I saw that you can get it from your local farm guy. It is unreal how little food DH and I need to buy...we were talking about it yesterday...heck just yesterday we finished up the food we had in the freezer from the wedding in July !! Fortunately, when DSIL smokes anything or gets into a cooking mood, he calls and says he has something for me to pick up (like he did the other day) YUM!
Jana - have fun at the concert
OH jeez... I just looked at the clock...gotta run!

Well, my day took a sharp change in direction a little bit ago. My MIL called and said that she was at the ER with FIL. She said he'd passed out and she called 911 and the paramedics came and took him to the ER, she was able to ride in the ambulance, which is good because she probably hasn't actually driven in a decade or more - come to think of it, IDK if her license is even valid. Anyway, Mark and BIL were both decided that I was the better person to be a single point of contact...Gee thanks, Guys!...So when the Dr. came in MIL called me and put her phone on speaker so that I could listen in and hear what all the Dr. had to say. Then I texted them both with the update. Anyway, DH is on his way home now so if we have to go back to the city, we can do so together. The Dr. wants to keep FIL overnight and run tests. They said his heart rate is pretty low so they want to do some cardiac monitoring, bloodwork for cardiac enzymes and a cardiac ultrasound.
IDK yet if we'll drive back to town of=r if BIL will pick up MIL from the hospital and take her back home sometime later today. But surely one of us will do that, and then somebody will have to get him back home tomorrow. So not sure how that all will impact our weekend plans.
Jana - Everything I know about black bears would lead me to believe that they would generally shy away for a barking dog - especially ones as big as yours. So I don't think your pups would be in extreme danger, but the bears certainly might attempt to scale a fence if there was something tasty on the other side...food, vegetable garden, berry garden, trash cans, etc. I didn't mention the fence climbing to scare you, just so you'd be aware.
Susie - I wish we had to buy very little food. Lol. Especially at these prices, but it is what it is. We don't really eat out much at all, and what we bought yesterday was absolutely enough to keep us stocked for a good while.

Hello everyone,
Just here at work wrapping things up for the day. It hasn't been bad. I work tomorrow, but I am doing the overnight shift from 8p to 8a. I'll get to sleep in a little tomorrow and be home when bad weather blows through. It should be done by the time I get to the station, but the temps are supposed to drop like a rock. It may be down in the 30's overnight. Almost time for "frost on the pumpkin".
Lora, glad you got the trip done, but rushing around is not fun. It seems prices will be higher until this domino effect from the pandemic starts to catch up. It is definitely time to be choosy about what you REALLY want!
Jana, hope you have a good weekend. Nice that you can leave a little early to get your haircut done.
Susie, I feel like my grocery bill has gone down. It takes me forever to go through stuff. I make more trips for dog food and treats, than anything else!
Jill, I hope you are having a good end to the week.
I don't think I'll do much tonight. Not sleeping great with my hip bothering me, so maybe I'll catch up on some rest! I will be back but meantime waving to all,
RobinMD

Oh Lora, sorry to hear about your in-laws. I hope they will easily find what caused the unconsciousness. It can be such a process!

Lora - sorry to hear about the in-laws and that you are kind of in charge. Hope things go OK at the hospital and they discover the cause.
Robin - enjoy sleeping in tomorrow....temps in the 30s -- brrrr - I don't want to think about it
Jana - boy do I need a haircut. The last one was just before YDD's wedding. I just grab the scissors and start clipping. My hairdresser is so sweet...she never says a thing - lol! But it is getting on my nerves.
Ok - we are headed to a little outdoor gathering of some neighbors, and then I will be off to stop in for a quick visit at DGS's birthday party.
Hope everyone has a great evening.

Hi Everyone, Today was a work from home day but it turned out to be frustrating. I had hoped to get some preparation done for the conferences but the senior director said we were expected to do a full day of trainings. That is a lot to sit all day and they didn't tell us that until close to 9 or after. So didn't get to my sister's to do the work I really planned and needed to do. Then my hotspot wasn't working. The box needed charging and I guess I hadn't charged it in a while..it turns out once that it was fully charged I saw the light $ď good come on and I was able to connect right before the class. I did one training before the class on my phone but I have to see if it is listed on the transcript page. I hope so. Then I just have to do the quiz. There was another 2 hours that I didn't have time to complete..I am falling so am waving Hello to everyone..oh, my partner came thru again..there were 2 children who were added to the system and we were asked to do the assessment. Normally, they wouldn't be included until the next assessment period because they've haven't been here for a short period of time. I was going to do one and she was going to do one but she did both of them.
Lora, sorry that you ended up having to be the go between. Ok, gn
