This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ********** Throwback to Autumn days of old. Warm days, cool nights have given way to cool days, cool nights. It might be time to invite Mr. Lemon in.

Thanks for the start, Chele. Good luck with Mr. Lemon. I know he gets to be more of a handful every year. Hope you didn't bring in any critters with him. Every time you move him back in, I'm reminded of the scene in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation when Clark cut down the tree from their yard and brought in the squirrel with it. Does Iggy keep it pretty well trimmed so it doesn't get out of control? What's on your weekend agenda? Are you expecting rain this coming week? We're predicted to be in the 40s and 50s for lows and 50s and 60s for highs, with up to 2" rain total, so fall is definitely here for us, and sounds like it is for you as well.
Kathy, major congrats on the loss. What did you change? I imagine your plan involved giving up evening snacking because you identified that as a problem. Congrats to your Knights. I figured Memphis would not be a problem for them. But then I thought that one year when they played the Vols and got a surprise. You're right about how the meats often are at group functions. The best meal I think I ever had at a work function was at a conference at Disney there in 2007 when they served tofu, polenta, and a veggie medley that was amazing. The vegetarian entrees often look fresher than the non-vegetarian ones, and frequently the meat eaters remark that they wish they would have ordered that instead.
Thanks for the link about Discovery of Witches, Linda. I was sorry to read in this article that the final season will be coming up. The craft fair was going well when I left, but quite a bit smaller than usual. We get most of our money up front from vendor fees, so we've already made our profit for the year. However, I hope the vendors do well so they will join us again next year. How are you feeling today? Is your weather warming?
Liz, I hope you're feeling more normal today. This has really thrown you for a loop. I hope the next one will be much easier. Get some rest and snuggle with the pups. How are they doing?
I slept well, but I think I woke up as tired as when I went to bed. In triathlon terms, I believe I have "hit the wall". Dale helped me take off the sheets and put clean ones back on. The bedding is in the dryer now. I also had to fix eggs and butternut squash for Arya. That's done but I need to take the squash out of the skin. The koshari has a lot of ingredients, but it's pretty easy, with most of it being cooked in the IP other than the pasta, which will be stovetop. It has both chickpeas and lentils in it, so lots of protein and fiber. Maybe it will help me recover. I had planned to weed, relocate the fig trees that are in pots with the elderberries, and plant garlic this morning. Hopefully I'll be able to do all of that tomorrow after Dale gets back from running errands. Definitely not enough energy to even think about doing it today.
Waving to Becky and Denise! Hope you're both well.

Liz, I hope you are recovering and getting back some energy and getting rid of any residual gastric issues. I hope Zoe has started eating her regular food and Wally’s allergies have calmed down.
Kathy, congrats on the loss of Trump pounds, you’ve worked hard at it. Do you jog with DS?
Linda, I bet you and Micki enjoyed your walk. You needed some fresh air after all that tech. Nothing drives me crazier than tech issues.
Karen, we got Melrose, Cortland and Mutsu (golden) apples. The Mutsu is kind of spicy. A day of rest would not go amiss for you. I am glad the fair is going well. I do hope the vendors fare well. I hope the koshari turns out well.
Mr. Lemon does get trimmed but it is still too big for indoors, IMO. I refused to let Iggy bring in huge pots of herbs, that’s why the covered “greenhouse” in the patio planter, which he finished today but it is still vented. Mr Lemon is still outside. Iggy cut down the rest of the tomato plants, mowed, fertilized the grass for winter, put the mower in the shed, moved the snow blower to the garage after testing it.
I did laundry, vacuumed, made blueberry scones and froze some, made tacos for lunch (bean tacos for me) and straightened up.
Waving to Becky and Denise.

Chele, thanks for the start. We're still on warm days and cooler nights, but I'm not complaining. Anything under 90 is good. I hope Mr. Lemon behaves himself and doesn't bring any friends inside.
Karen, I think it was planned to do 3 seasons of Discovery of Witches since there were 3 books in the series. There is a sequel that focuses more on Matthew's son and I heard they might make a series out of that. It has all the main characters in it, so I hope they do. The best work lunch I remember was when they had mahi mahi. They had some money to burn by the end of the year and they went all out on that lunch. They even had live music.
I've been following Corinne Crabtree's No BS Weightloss program. I haven't eliminated evening snacking, but I've cut way down on it. The plan doesn't involve tracking points or calories, but you do make a meal plan each day. It uses some of the principles from intuitive eating, but has some different things too. I wasn't getting anywhere with WW, so just needed to try something different.
I just signed up for a month of Vidgo for $10 so I can watch the FSU games for the next month. FSU is playing UMass now and it's 52-3 in the 3rd quarter, so I don't think they'll have a problem with this one. I've had to change the score twice just while I was typing this! The month will get me through the end of the season except for the UF/FSU game. I'm assuming that won't be on the ACC Network since it's at UF. What's on your schedule for today?
Linda, thanks for the link on Discovery of Witches. I guess I'll have to find a way to get AMC+ again.
Liz, hope you have a restful weekend and feel better.
Waving to Becky and Denise.

Chele, no jogging for me. I would probably slow DS down too much. I'm more of a walker or indoor exerciser. Thanks for the congrats. I copied my weight loss graph from WW and it was going down in the first half of 2016. Then it started gradually climbing and kept going up until 2019 when it went up and down around the same few pounds until this year. You've been busy today! Blueberry scones sound good. It would be hard to have a tree inside, but hope you can find room for Mr. Lemon.

Our Meyer lemon is in the ground and twelve feet tall with lemons ripening.
watched Granchester first four episodes of this season and was so intensely sad from it I did not sleep until 1:30. I found recaps of the rest from when it showed in Britain and it gets worse for three other people. Fans are quitting it because it is so dark and miserable and I will too.
Woke up coughing at three! Dozed off and on until four and could not sleep again until six. I had not put the Vicks on my throat and upper chest. Boy allergies are bad right now. Micki’s eyes are drippy and he is licking his feet.
but I went off to a local Pima Indian farmers organic market with cafe and grounds that is seasonally on an old golf course. They have slowly been converting the grounds to get rid of all the golf course pesticides and chemicals. Got pears, Jonathan apples, huckleberries, home made apple sauce, and potatoes. never had huckleberries before..sort of like small , tart, blueberries. They were frozen with no orice..looked at slip later. $20! Yikes
Got that home and went back out to local needleworkers for charity craft fair. Bought a nice green and lavender crocheted blanket with booties and hat, also a dinosaur burp bib. My nephew's wife was pregnant but not telling anyone. Have heard nothing in a while, so not sure it is going well, but they plan on a second one, so I am prepared.
Trying recipe for tomato soup with white beans. Last Edit:

Kathy, that program is really working for you. It's great to find something that will allow your body to let go of the excess weight. Being able to print off the weight chart was a bonus, so you know exactly when the problem began (and who is responsible 😁). Are you like the rest of us who can go shopping in your closet? Clemson is self-destructing right now. I hope they get enough wins to be bowl eligible. Have you seen an OT college game this year that went past about the 2nd OT? We watched the end of the Illinois-Penn State game that finally ended on the 9th OT with Illinois winning. It's nothing but 2-point conversions past the 3rd or 4th OT. Pretty boring. Vols and the Tide play at 7 and Braves and Dodgers play at 8, so baseball is our excuse for not watching the slaughter in AL.
You were busy today, Chele, and so was Iggy. Nice that the "greenhouse" is now finished, so you won't have to be worried about the herbs when the weather gets cold. Hope you don't need that snow blower any time soon. Good luck with Mr. Lemon when the time comes. I moved my medusa pepper into the bathroom last week just in case.
Linda, I saw an ad on PBS this morning for Granchester and wondered about it. Thanks for the warning. I don't think I'll bother. The real world is depressing enough. Poor you and Micki on your allergies. Nice haul from the organic farmers market. I have never seen huckleberries up close and personal either. I hope the $20 was for everything, not just the huckleberries. How was the soup? That will be a nice baby gift at some point. Reminds me I got a Norwex towel hoodie to send to the new great-great niece and haven't put it in the mail yet. Need to do that.
The koshari was easy, but I think it will be better if I cook the ingredients separately. The rice, chickpeas, and lentils pretty much ended up as a glob in the IP. Couldn't even tell there were lentils in it. And the marinara is good on spaghetti, but I think I'll use tomato sauce next time. The marinara already has Italian seasonings and I had to add cumin, ginger, and cinnamon. Dale used Texas Pete on his and I think it improved the taste. Might just put in macaroni and not macaroni ad spaghetti next time. We have 2 large dishes of it left, so it will be what's for dinner for several nights. Maybe the flavor will improve overnight.

Linda, that's awful that Grantchester got so dark. I thought about watching it, but never got around to it. Sounds like that was just as well. Hope the allergies improve.
Karen, the weight chart does make it really obvious, lol! I can blame the person responsible for the extra stress, but can't blame him that I ate through it. It was mostly a gradual gain of about 1/2 lb month, but added up over 4 years. I can definitely go shopping in my closet although some things are getting old. I heard about the Penn State game. That was crazy! Yikes, I didn't realize Pitt was that good this year. I would rather Clemson win or they'll be taking out their frustrations on FSU next week. FSU had it easy this week.

Kathy, thanks for the attempted warning on the Vols game. We did watch a bit early (when they were holding their own) until baseball started. Looks like the Q4 got really ugly though. They just can't seem to be competitive for the entire game, but they are improving. I guess you saw that Clemson lost (again). I wouldn't count FSU out next week. At this point, I hope Clemson wins enough games to make it into a bowl. They should beat CT (probably homecoming) and SC, putting them at six wins, so they'll get something and they do draw a crowd. I'm not holding my breath on Wake Forest or Louisville, so six may be as good as it gets .
We are having a beautiful Sunday, Linda, thank you. I went out to pull everything but a couple of tomato plants out of the straw bale garden, weeded some, and moved 3 large potted figs to better locations where they won't be shaded by elderberries. I also deadheaded most of the oakleaf hydrangea but can't get to some parts of it until Dale cuts down a black locust that we've been trying to kill for years but it won't die. Is your weather warming up? Did you have a quiet day?
Dale went to Lowes for a new shower curtain rod and did a little grocery shopping this morning. We are still without NBC, even on the NBC app on Roku, so I called Dish while he was gone. Gigantic waste of time. Of course it's not their fault. They are sending us a free indoor antenna that may allow us to pick up the missing channel but I'm not holding my breath. They are also giving us a $5 credit on our bill. Big Deal! I still couldn't get a good explanation of why we are getting blocked from everything and not just local content. We can get things after the fact on the NBC app but nothing live. I don't really think $5 is adequate compensation. If I have to call again, I will be demanding they provide us with another NBC affiliate, probably the one in Chattanooga is the closest. It's going on three weeks and they are still playing the blame game. Dish filed a complaint with the FCC claiming the other side is negotiating in bad faith, so we'll be lucky if it only goes on for a month. There has to be a better way.
Waving to the rest of the crew. Hope everyone is having a good Sunday.

Happy Sunday from rainy SW Ohio. It has done nothing but rain today. Amazingly, my joints feel better today than they did yesterday when it was dry. I did not wake up stiff this morning.
I made curried fish over rice today. It’s a recipe I have been making for 30 years. It has tomato, onion and thinly sliced apple in it. For the first time in 30 years, Iggy said he really didn’t like the apple in it, but he likes the rest of it. 🤷🏻♀️
Karen, you are having better weather than we are. It’s nice to get the winterizing almost done. We still have the hose and Mr Lemon out. The first time making a recipe is always a learning experience. We always say, “I think I need to tweak it a little bit.” I guess I need to tweak my 30 yr old recipe as well.
Waving to the rest of the gang.

Dish company is not looking healthy, is it?
today's adventures…after making us a diet friendly brunch, off to the mall to find a russet ,fake shade midi shirtdress JJill has online back ordered until Dec. I tried on another dress to fit shoulders. Theirs run large and droop and my shoulders are first place to go on weight loss! Ordered it there and soldiered on in search of light weight pj sales and underwear, found at Macy's. Got another bag of Sees little chelate balls that take years to unwrap. Still have part of a little bag from two weeks ago…there is a first! One or two of those is after supper dessert.
Picked up stuff for the pea soup on the way home..simmering now. House smells very GERman pea soupy. Second load of laundry in washer.
I must have three miles of walking in.
88 and very Sunny where we walk…too hot for mr furry. So around five he gets a walk.
tomorrow we are off to the eye surgery place to do the laser quicker on DH's other eye.

Karen, everything just seemed to collapse for TN in the 4th quarter. They lured me in when they had a long run for a TD and got within one score in the 3rd quarter, but I should've known better. FSU needs 3 more wins to get to a bowl, so it's possible, but won't be easy. They have Clemson, NC State, Miami, Boston College and UF. None of those teams are having a great season, so it should at least make things interesting. I hope they get the issue with NBC resolved soon. $5 is ridiculous when it's one of the major networks.
Chele, it's been raining all day here too. It was just drizzling most of the day, but it's heavier now. That is too funny on Iggy saying that about the apples after all these years.
Linda, what do you mean by fake shade? Hope all goes well with the eye procedure.
Liz, hope you're having a good weekend.
