This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ************** Linda, good news on DSIL and her DH having just sinus infections. Also no termites. Glad Bobās procedure was just the freezing. Iāve had that done on my face. When I make a Walmart run for OTC medications and personal hygiene items, the price tag is always a shock. I even buy the store brands. CVS/Walgreen is even more expensive.
Has anyone else run into this? My local Walmart has sectioned off the face creams and scrubs along with makeup and related items and you must pay for purchased items before returning to the rest of the store. Hair care, dental care, OTC drugs are not in the closed area.
Karen, I hope the day of rest helped and the fever is gone and mammogram is quick and painless. I think places and industry declare shortages just so they can raise the prices again, but Iām a cynic. We found the wild caught salmon and frozen, cod and flounder, shrimp and a seafood mix of mussels, octopus, surimi and shrimp. The mix is for seafood soup.
Kathy, you donāt know Maddie of 9-1-1? š Mr Lemon has never given us lemons so Iggy wasnāt concerned about the fruit. Itās much warmer than yesterday morning. We are at 49Ā°. We almost switched to Direct TV but changed our minds before it happened. We read too much online criticism. Iggy thinks in 3 years time we will be paying for every channel we want. I think it will take longer for that to happen. Samās Club is the only place I have seen limits on products.
Becky, I hope you enjoyed the party.
Liz, as always be careful out there.

Just got some distressing news. DMIL, who is about 90 y/o (records not kept when and where she is from), fell down a flight of stairs and fractured her skull. DSIL is with her at hospital. They are keeping DMIL for observation. Iggy says he is not worried. My stomach is in knots, so I guess I will worry for the both of us. She has lots of family to take care of her. Thatās one thing not to worry about.
I feel sorry for DSIL. Her DDIL just had baby number 2 and her daughter is 7 months pregnant with baby number 2. DSIL is the type of person who takes care of everyone but herself, just like her mother. Wish I could be there to help.
I donāt think I have mentioned that Iggy has decided, since the defibrillator implant, that he is no longer traveling by air or very far from home. First of all, there is the international health insurance issue, and secondly, he does not want to be in a plane if something goes wrong. He said it wouldnāt be fair on the other passengers nor on any family that would have to fly where he is. His DS has been trying to get a visa to visit us, but she couldnāt get an appointment at the US Embassy until June 2022.
Life can get complicated and I am rambling. I do that when Iām worried.

Chele, I'm so sorry to hear about your DMIL and hope she recovers quickly. That sounds very scary, but I'm glad she has lots of family around. I can understand Iggy's decision on travel. My dad did his bucket list trips to Ireland and Italy when he was in his 50s, but stayed in the US after that. He did travel in the US, but didn't fly anymore.
I had never even thought to check insurance until my last trip to Ireland. This was when I was still working and I was covered for international travel, but you had to pay all costs up front and then get reimbursed. My current policy is the same. I know Medicare doesn't cover it. Hope you get some good news soon on your DMIL.
We're under a tornado watch until this evening. We already had a strong line of storms come through and another is on its way. A warm front moving up from the south is colliding with a cold front moving from the west! Hope everyone has a good day.

Thanks for the start, Chele. YIKES on DMIL!! I hope she doesn't have any complications from the fall and will recover quickly. I know you're worried, but there's not much you can do from 5000+ miles away. Your DSIL definitely has her hands full but it sounds like she has people to help her. That's good news that Iggy has decided not to travel back home (or other distances). The defibrillator could definitely make for some complications on a plane. Good decision on his part. Amazing that DSIL's embassy appointment is so far out. WOW! You got the motherlode of seafood. The mix sounds intriguing. What do you plan to do with it? Mammogram went well. I like the new place. You have the results or a followup plan before you walk out the door. I'm already scheduled for next year. I tend to stress about mammograms because DM's DM had breast cancer. Such a relief to get good news. I have been reading a good book called Breasts: The Owners Manual, by Dr. Kristi Funk and I have a new appreciation for the ta-tas. That's really wild about the new area at WM. I've seen Lowes Hardware cordon off the high end power tools like that, but have never seen it at another type of store. I'm guessing theft was an issue. I don't usually get the store brands because I am really picky about that kind of stuff, since skin is our largest organ of absorption and I am trying to keep what I use very low in yucky stuff so I don't absorb things that might cause cancer or problems with internal organs. My go-to source has been the Environmental Working Group ( ewg.org) that has a massive database called Skin Deep that was really eye opening for me. They also have a database of cleaning items and I was shocked to find that the dishwasher detergent I've been using for years and thought was eco-friendly rated an F. Good job finding out in advance that you didn't want to switch to DirecTV. We had it before Dish and, as bad as Dish is, we had more problems with DirecTV. Kathy, I hope the tornado watch doesn't turn into anything. Fingers crossed that the storms aren't too bad and you don't lose power. Medicare isn't world traveler friendly. One of my GFs and her DH travel internationally a lot and have a standard international health insurance plan they have to get when they travel. I did mention the covid booster to the tech before my mammogram, Linda, and the tech checked and was told to go forward. I guess there wasn't a problem. But thanks for the reminder just in case. I think medicines don't have as long an expiration date as they used to. That's how they can get us to buy more. Congrats on getting back to the museum to work. Have things changed any since the lockdown? My stomach isn't thrilled about food right now either. I didn't eat any dinner last night but did have a decent breakfast this morning. Nothing since. I'll do something easy tonight like baked tofu, rice, mushrooms, and veggies. The imaging center is about 2 miles from TJ's and I had time to stop on my way to Osteo and picked up a few things. I found their unsweetened organic soymilk (they were out last time I was there) for $1.99. I paid $3.69 for the same item at Whole Foods. I also got purple sweet potatoes because I'm almost out of the ones DSIL brought me. Liz, I hope the storms didn't cause you too much chaos over the last couple of days. How's Zoe doing? I got home pretty early because I came straight from Osteo. Still feeling kind of washed out after the last couple of days, so I didn't stop at the gym. My Osteo performance wasn't up to par, but will be better next week. I had rain most of the way to KVL, then just cloudy, but the skies opened up a few minutes ago. It's Arya's Gotcha Day and she was the poster girl on today's basset calendar in celebration. She has come a long way in 4 years.

5000 miles? Where dmil live? Ouch on that fall. Sorry for dsil.
on reason I did not want to do Europe any more was that all we had was purchased travel insurance..pay there and get reimbursed maybe. Our Medicare are advantage from UHC now has international insurance for emergencies, but you pay there first, and for a heart attack that could be a lot! He had chest pains last two trips but it was GERD. We have medivac insurance from AAA that gets get hime dead or alive and brings back your car or brings a relative to you. Probably will get back to NY relatives one day.
the Problem with shoplifting id really awful on cosmetics.
first day back at the museum in my little area by myself. I am cataloging things from an Irish pub that closed because of lease. It actually had imported walls from an Irish pub. I did Guinness signs as other stuff from walls and the actual beer taps. Nice to get away and feel useful.
