Ann, one of the things I love about bookclub is that I read things I might never have picked up before. Almost all of the time. There have been a couple over the years that I could have done without. The pluses have definitely outweighed the minuses but I do know what you mean.
Still reading THE HEART OF DARKNESS for my read-aloud group. We keep getting into discussions about the awful things that were done to parts of the world in the name of good causes.

I am sure you remember me talking about THE SEVEN SISTERS series by Lucinda Riley. I was checking to see when the last book is coming out and found this.
A message from Lucinda’s family To Lucinda’s friends and readers around the world: We are so sorry to have to tell you that Lucinda died peacefully on 11th June 2021, surrounded by her family, who were so important to her. We realise that this will be a terrible shock for most people, who won’t have been aware that Lucinda had been battling cancer for four years.
Shortly before the publication of ‘The Missing Sister’, Lucinda announced an eighth and final book in ‘The Seven Sisters’ series, promising to answer the question at the heart of the story: Who is Pa Salt? Before her death, Lucinda was able to write several important passages alongside detailed notes on the story. She expressed a clear wish that her eldest son, Harry, should complete the series if the worst were to happen. We can today confirm that ‘Atlas: The Story of Pa Salt’ will be published around the world in Spring 2023, co-written by Harry Whittaker. Lucinda and Harry worked closely together on The Guardian Angels series for children.
Harry writes: ‘Mum has passed on the secrets of the series, and I will keep my promise to her in sharing them with her loyal readers. Rest assured that in Spring 2023, the whole world will know just who Pa Salt is and why he adopted the sisters.’ We thank those of you who have allowed us the space to grieve, and those who have donated so generously to Mary’s Meals. Lucinda’s family
Don't you hate it when a favorite author of yours dies? She wrote a lot of stand alone books as well and I enjoyed each and every one of them. Among them THE OLIVE TREE THE ANGEL TREE AND THE BUTTERFLY ROOM. She always got right to the thick of things. But novels and were all favorites of mine.

Don't you hate it when a favorite author of yours dies? Yes, ma'am. Especially when they don't lose a step no matter their age. I'm thinking of P.D. James, sure there are others.

THREE people have told me about the book, Fresh Water for Flowers in the past two days. It sounds wonderful. Here is a blurb about it:
A 2020 INDIES INTRODUCE PICK A POIGNANT RUNAWAY BESTSELLER full of French charm and memorable characters, Fresh Water for Flowers is Valérie Perrin’s English debut. Violette Toussaint is the caretaker at a cemetery in a small town in Bourgogne. Casual mourners, regular visitors, and sundry colleagues—gravediggers, groundskeepers, and a priest—visit her to warm themselves in her lodge, where laughter, companionship, and occasional tears mix with the coffee she offers them. Her life is lived to the rhythms of their funny, moving confidences.
Violette’s routine is disrupted one day by the arrival of Julien Sole—local police chief—who insists on scattering the ashes of his recently deceased mother on the gravesite of a complete stranger. It soon becomes clear that Julien’s inexplicable gesture is intertwined with Violette’s own difficult past.
With Fresh Water for Flowers, Valérie Perrin has given readers an intimately told story that tugs on the heartstrings about a woman who defiantly believes in happiness, despite it all. A number one bestseller in France, Fresh Water for Flowers is a heartwarming and tender story that will stay will readers for years after the final page is turned.
I have 100 more pages of Interior China. The woman in my book group who suggested it said she isn't going to bother to finish it!! It should be an interesting meeting this Thursday night. I need a really, really good read for my next book. I'll go looking through my stash!

I can't wait to read it, Connie!
I just talked to the granddaughter I journal with about books and she has to read Interior China for school (she's a junior in high school) and is really excited that I'm reading it. She's going to start reading it after she finishes her exams (this week) so we can talk about it at Thanksgiving. I DID NOT tell her that I don't like the book! Guess I'd better stick with it!

I just started listening to A SLOW FIRE BURNING by Paula Hawkins (THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN). I think someone here recommended it. Liking it so far.
