Day 12 – Practice Hunger Tolerance
Today is the day (if you want to) you skip lunch, track your hunger discomfort scale, and see how well you tolerate hunger. Beck explains that hunger may seem intense, but those feelings often go away and become tolerable.
Beck maintains that a lot of unnecessary eating is done because people are afraid of hunger when you don’t need to be afraid of hunger.
Are you going to do this today or another day? If so, let us know the result. If you have done it previously let us know how you did when you did it. If you are not going to do it let us know why.

I am not going to do this now. I've done it twice before, once I became so hangry that I had to wait two hours after I ate to be able to get on the boards and be civil, the second time my mood was fine. I don't like being hungry and give into it at times, or eat extra ahead of time if I know I won't eat for a long while. I think this is a good lesson because one of the reasons I became obese was at the slightest hint of hunger (usually having grinchy thoughts) I would eat something. After I started WW after about two/three months the points got low enough that I felt real hunger and boy was I surprised. I had been eating for a lot of feelings I was having thinking they were hunger and it turns out they weren't real hunger. A lot of the feelings I had that I thought were hunger went away when I got away from eating processed carbs.

Are you going to do this today or another day? * May try it tomorrow.
If so, let us know the result.
If you have done it previously let us know how you did when you did it. * I haven't done it before so really need to give it a try.
If you are not going to do it let us know why.

Forgot today...have skipped meals before with mixed results.
* If the breakfast was minimal and I miss lunch...watch out * If I miss a meal and am BUSY then might not realize till I am REALLY hungry...but it is easier * I don't think I ever intentionally get hungry and am not sure that I fear being hungry so...don't see the reason to do this...not really?

I’ve done this before and it’s a good lesson for understanding hunger vs. cravings. I probably won’t do it today because I’m having dinner with friends and I’m trying to stay on plan with that meal and make the day count. I found that if I let myself get too hungry I’ll tend to consume the next meal a bit faster and maybe eat more so I think I’ll work on slowing down and eating mindfully today.

I am skipping lunch today.
I don't have anything on the schedule for today other than laundry. It's OK if I get hangry with the sheets and towels. All this water-drinking that we are supposed to be doing now will be a big help. I shouldn't have any trouble at all getting my extra water point!
I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes.

I'm catching up and ate breakfast but I can try to do this for the rest of today. It's already 2pm so...I never really find this exercise that difficult to be honest. However, when I do skip breakfast and lunch, I find I end up giving myself permission to over do late afternoon snacks as a result. Which is never a good idea.
