This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ……………………………. Halfway through November. Turkey Day in 12 days.
It’s World Kindness Day, Saturday, Nov 13. Spread a little kindness today. Okay, no chasing kitty today and I will fill up the feeder so the birds won’t fight.
We had our first snow last night. It didn’t stick to the ground but there is a coating on the fence rails and wheelie bins and roofs. See avatar. Maple tree to the left.

Happy Weekend, All.
We went to Panera and then the fish store this morning. Iggy ate all the bagels and I wanted one. Then Iggy said he wanted some smelts so off to the fish store we went. We also brought home some maple smoked salmon. It is so good.
Now we are just relaxing. Any good games today?

Chele, wow on getting snow! Nice picture and your gold maple tree is very pretty. A cold front is heading our way and we may get some upper 40s once the front passes through. It's supposed to be warm today with highs in the 80s.
My informed delivery from yesterday showed I had 2 pieces of mail coming and one item they didn't have a picture for. Both of the pictured ones were junk mail which turned out to be a good thing. I open the box and there's a big stack of mail in there. Every single one of them was for my neighbor! Her box had packages stuffed into it, so I just put her mail in it, but couldn't see if mine was in there too. I'm also getting a lot of junk mail for someone with my last name and the first name of Keith. Nope, he doesn't live here!
Big news here is DN made his thesis presentation and passed, woohoo! I think DS may be more excited than him. He is set to graduate this semester unless U Can't Finish comes up with some other snag. He is getting a job offer from the company he interned with so he will probably continue with them for now.
I'm watching the UCF/SMU game and it started out going back and forth. I looked away for a few minutes and SMU scored twice! It's 38-14 at halftime so not looking good for UCF right now. FSU starts at 3:30 against Miami.
Waving to everyone. Hope you have a good Saturday.

Kathy, congratulations to DN. Fingers crossed there are no snags holding up graduation. Getting some more job experience where he is at is a good thing. If I were his mother, I would be super excited as well. Hope UCF makes a comeback.
We have had similar incidents with the mail. I am missing a piece of mail that is fairly important from yesterday’s Informed Delivery. Hopefully, it shows up today. It has been known to happen. Also, I have been getting magazines for someone with our address but the name is a mystery. It does not match any of the neighbors. Our street address is a Place but there is another street that is a Drive in the same city, different zip code. Maybe the person who input the address got mixed up. I always put them back in the mailbox with Addressee Unknown scrawled across them.

Pretty tree…SNOW already? Forecasted blizzard for S Dakota. Friends in MN not happy.
Congrats to DN! Great achievement.
Went toHome store and found a multicolored lighted little porch tree .had looked forward to wandering around there, but tired and achy.
Remember how strict DH was with diet? He keeps buying wine, German Christmas candy and cookies to put away like a crazed squirrel expecting a tough winter. World Market is now officially banned. Argg.
what is informed mail delivery?
Got packages sent back to NY for dsil's family, and two nephews. Christmas and have the one for niece's kids that I no longer have to send to Virginia. Hope she does stop by one day. Putting together the plush penguin from Monterey Bay Aquarium and small book and dvd to go with it for the three year old grandniece we can visit here. The other five grand nieces and nephews get gift cards in mail. I need to order an electric jar opener from Amazon for other dsil who has a weird thing with joints dislocating…makes it hard to get at food packaging. And I need the last of the gift cards to send before things get nuts.

Thanks for the start, Chele. This year has really flown by, especially compared with 2020. I guess I need to be figuring out what we're going to do for Thanksgiving dinner. It was nice not to have to do much cooking last year. Were you kind to the birdies? I'm not sure about that kitty concession. That might make filling the feeder counterproductive, since it could draw more birds. Glad you didn't have a lot of snow (unless you wanted a lot of snow). One of the local meterologists is in ND with her 2 young daughters visiting her family and posted some really cold and snowy photos on FB. No thanks! That salmon sounds wonderful! Were you able to get as many bagels as you wanted?
Linda, are you getting a bit more rest today after your whirlwind yesterday, despite all you did so far? I'll bet going through all of those programs at the museum yesterday was a lot of fun. They don't do a lot of things like that these days, especially since covid. Those little dietary indiscretions are going to bring those 14 lbs back quickly if he's not careful. Banning World Market is a good idea. Falling off the wagon can make it come back on faster than it was lost.
The Lady Vols won last night, Kathy, but only by 8 points. They would score and the Lady Knights would narrow the gap. We had to work hard for that one. We don't see many water turtles now that the lake level is receding. They'll be back in the spring (provided the otters don't eat them all). Hope UCF can put a lot more points on the board, since they are a little behind. Hope things go well for FSU this afternoon. Will you get to see the game? It's pretty much a must-win game for them. Clemson and Michigan both won ut the latter was not an easy victory. Major congrats to DN on his successful thesis defense. He may be able to finish after all. That's really odd about some guy with the same last name getting mail delivered at your address. DFIL got a catalog delivered here yesterday (he's been gone for over 10 years), but at least it's someone we were related to. Interesting that the neighbor's mailbox was full so the mail carrier just stuck it in your mailbox for you to deal with 😲.
Liz, how's the weekend going?
Not much going on here today. I did some laundry, roasted purple sweet potatoes, baked portobellos, and cooked eggs for Arya and steel cut oats for me. I was also texting some with DN#3 regarding Christmas. I was going to get DGN#1 and his family a WM gift card because he was working there. But he's not working there anymore apparently. The kid is only 20 and I think he has held more jobs that I have. He's the new baby daddy. He just drifts from dead end job to dead end job and his GF/baby mama hasn't worked a day in her life. DB has used his connections to get the kid several jobs but he never stays very long at any of them. DSIL, DN#3, and I have been encouraging him since HS to go to school or get into an apprenticeship program, but he doesn't have the motivation to do anything. They are still living in the basement at his dad's house (DN#1). I think they would be in Section 8 housing otherwise. DM is probably turning over in her grave.
Waving to the other chicks!

Chele, there was no comeback for UCF, but FSU beat Miami!!! I thought Miami was going to pull it out, but FSU hung in there. It was kind of a strange ending. Miami got the ball back with a few seconds left and could win with a TD. They had one last play on 4th down and 2 seconds left and their QB spiked the ball. Apparently, there is a rule where there has to be at least 3 seconds left to spike the ball, so the refs declared "game over"! I'd never heard of that rule before. I've gotten mail for someone with my street number in the same zip code, but a different street name. The best one was when I got his Playboy magazine! I just put them back in the mailbox and put the flag up so they take them. Apparently Keith is 3 years older than me since he's getting lots of Medicare junk mail. I will have to write something on them like you did since they're not getting the message.
Linda, you can sign up for Informed Delivery on the US Post Office website. They send you a daily email with images of the mail you'll get that day and also links to tracking for any packages for that day. It's usually pretty accurate. If something doesn't show up after a few days, there is a link in the email to report it. It's pretty handy. If I know I'm not getting anything or it's just junk, it saves me a trip to the mailbox.
Karen, congrats to the Lady Vols and Clemson and Michigan. I wonder if we'll ever drop the "Lady" off of women's sports! It strikes me as an out of date term now, but most of the teams still use it. The FSU game was on ESPN, so I could watch it. I'm expecting that next week's game against Boston College might be on the ACC Network, so I'll have to stream it. The FSU/UF game should be on one of the other networks. Did you see the final score on the Samford/UF game was 70-52? Sounds like neither had any defense.
There was room in my neighbor's mailbox, so I think it was just a mistake. The mail I was supposed to get showed up in my box today, so she may have gotten my mail. Who knows! That is sad on DGN#1 and I'm sure a lot of stress for his parents. I hope it all works out for him and his family.

I agree that the term Lady for a woman's team is out of date. Actually makes it sound like they sit on the bench embroidering while waiting to play

Good Sunday Morn. It’s National Pickle Day. Love me some pickles. Sweet. Dill. Bread and Butter. Horseradish. Ginger. Gherkins. Cornichons. I love them all.
Kathy, congrats on the FSU win. There is always some obscure rules in football. Guess that’s what the refs are for. We constantly receive packages for the family around the corner with the same number address, different street. FedEx. UPS. Amazon. Strangely enough the post office mail and packages go to the right place. I don’t like the term “girl boss”. It’s just “boss.”
Karen, congrats on the Lady Vols win. DGN#1 is still young. He may just need time to grow into adulthood. It’s too bad our bodies outpace our brains when it comes to reproduction. No, I did not want a lot of snow. 😁 I did not see kitty yesterday but I did top up the feeders. Mom has been gone for 12 years and I still get mail for her.
Linda, your neighbor’s project will be interesting. It’s a good thing they can’t build at night, since it is across from your bedrooms. Will the noise drive Micki mad?
We are expecting a snow/rain mix today along with gusty winds, but it is quiet out there this early morning.
Waving to Liz, Becky and Denise.

Chele, did you watch the OSU-Purdue game? It had the potential to be a close game, but Purdue didn't look at all like they have in previous games. The Buckeyes were just too much for them. Yay for National Pickle Day. That's one I will celebrate by opening a fresh jar of Zesty Garlic Kosher Dill Spears. We have been going through Kosher dills lately. Usually we do more bread and butter chips, but our last falafel sandwiches came with Kosher dills and they were so good. I hope you're right about DGN#1 just needing to mature. The only reason his dad has had a steady employment history is because he got into working in law enforcement in higher education and liked it. I'm not sure his mother even has her GED, so education has never been a priority for them. We live on a road with a 2 word name and in Gatlinburg they have the same road but spell it as one word. We occasionally get stuff for the same house number here and I presume they sometimes get ours. Have to wonder if lost packages we've had are just misdirected and not returned. Only the first 2 numbers of the zip code are the same, so it's usually not a problem for USPS.
Congrats to the Noles, Kathy. It looks like it was an exciting one. I'm glad you were able to see it. Samford was within a TD of the Gators at one point, so UF must have come on strong at the end. I guess you saw that Texas lost in OT to Kansas, coming in with only 1 win on the season. Now they have 2. Pretty embarassing. Bowl game prospects are looking grim for the new coach. I'm not sure "Lady" will ever be dropped from the women's sports at UT, mainly because that's part of the logo they use. They also have slightly different colors. The orange is still Pantone 151, but they also use a light blue that is not used in any of the men's sports. And, it was started by Pat Summitt, so that is also a factor.
Linda, I don't envy you being next door to a major construction project. Hopefully it's on the garage side of your house so maybe it won't be so loud in your living spaces. Hope you're getting a little R&R today.
Dale ran in the cold this morning while Arya and I stayed in where it was warm. It's supposed to be 70 by Wednesday. I may have to do some things outside. There may not be many more opportunities before the cold sets in for a while. We have a clouds then sun then clouds today and it's only made it to 50. We have another cold front coming through and then it will warm up. MG board and monthly meetings are tomorrow evening. Getting close to the end of my term. Hallelujah! The new avatar is a photo I pulled off the local weather FB page of this morning's sunrise on another local lake. Loved the colors.

Chele, you can have all my pickles and anything with dill. I've only received one package for a neighbor since I've moved here, so that's been pretty good. DM didn't receive a prescription one time and they said it was delivered. It was sitting on a neighbor's front porch. Karen, congrats to the Lady Vols. I love the colors in your avatar. The FSU game was exciting. They blew a big lead and had to convert on a 4th and 14 to have a chance to win. That doesn't happen very often especially with the game on the line. Miami really did itself in with a lot of penalties. I hadn't seen the TX score and that is a surprise. I watched some of the TX A&M game with Ole Miss and Jimbo wasn't looking too happy. This is our cooler day too with a high around 70.

Have to include pickles with the braised chops tonight.
the construction will be 12 feet from one bedroom and the computer room/ man cave where Bob is all day. I think he will take over the library room on this side where my desk is. But I am not in it that much.I foresee being up a lot earlier.
When did Amazon start Sunday delivery? Got a package.
Got out to Target where half where masked . Got toys to drop off in the Toys for Tots box at our vet and three more light nets for outside decorating before they sold out. Last year I forgot.
Who would think you could sweat your hair completely under a big hat and come inside to prevent heat exhaustion in the middle of November?Summer needs to hang it up! The 20 minute job of spreading light nets over four shrubs out front by the sidewalk and adding a long extension cord took an hour because the new lights have really big polarized prongs on plugs that will not fit into last year's!…same company. So I had to put them in first to plug the old ones into them and that meant dragging it all out to sort because there are ball shaped bulb ones and long bulbs. Ended up with it done and the lantana hedge around the front window done. Now I need a new shirt outdoor extension cord with bigger plug accommodation.for the ones by the house. Still have the shrubs on side of garage leading to front door to do.
It will get turned on starting Thanksgiving. I used to do it for the kids coming, but they don't now. I am a child myself about colored lights. Micki and I take a short walk in our street after supper then when you do not even need a flashlight because there are so many lights.

.I bet people think the are fall branches with little lights on my living room table are a Christmas tree! It has been there over a month.
good grief. At sunset I walked Micki and one house that does a lot outside has the roof lights up and on plus a lighted reindeer on the garage. Their next door neighbor has tree up with lots of white lights in front window plus another smaller one in the room beyond, the end house has flickering candles in all the windows…12 windows..plus their tree in front window. Guess I will get the two parts I did today coonected to power and turn them in tomorrow. I think people want some holiday cheer early!
