November comes And November goes, With the last red berries And the first white snows.
With night coming early, And dawn coming late, And ice in the bucket And frost by the gate.
The fires burn And the kettles sing, And earth sinks to rest Until next spring.
~Elizabeth Coatsworth (1893–1986)

Hi!
We got a surprise last night. DDIL (who had assured me she wanted the holiday at her house) called and asked if we could go a head and have it here. She'll bring a turkey, small potatoes and giblet gravy. So--- DH wanted a ham anyway, so I'm making a list. Rolls, Bob Evans potatoes -- the essentials! I'll make a place for everyone, once I know how many. I'll bake a pan of cornbread this afternoon, and we'll have a piece with some stew. That sounds really good on a cool day, don't you think? I had already been planning to make my stir- and-drop sugar cookies, and I may do that anyway. DD will bring green beans, a fruit salad, and a cake.
It is cool this morning. 37º when I checked, and tomorrow morning will be cooler. Then we'll warm up for a couple of days. Fall means uncertainty and clothing in layers around here -- and where Lucy is, I think. We'll stay indoors and warm.
Do you fall asleep in the evening watching tv? I do, and it is very frustrating. Sometimes I will be watching something I really like, and then Iwake up when it is ending. Sigh... I'm thinking of having a cup of coffee in the evening.
Better get something done. Hugs! Diane

Diane, my weather isn't much different from yours. It wasn't that cold last night but a freeze predicted for tonight.
Connie, I love the poem and picture.
Well, DD said she paid $30 for a turkey and it wasn't a butter ball. Groceries are just going out of sight. I grew up eating lots of beans and taters. I guess we will have to go back to that.
Bill is heading my way so the cornbread has got to get in the oven. I guess it needs help.

Yes, I do fall asleep in front of the TV. If it is something I'm really interested in, I will record it so I'm sure that I see it all. I have a load of laundry in the dryer. It's 34 degrees, 18mph of wind, and feels like 21 degrees. BRRR!

Turkeys are on sale all over the place here. anything from 19 cents a lb up to 29 cents , depending on the size of the turkey. Still a lot available. My DD got ours the other day and when I offered to help pay for it she said not necessary. good sale and good turkey. Isn't it funny how the younger people are all leaning on us for place to Thanksgiving. They are offering to bring most of dinner and that is good thing. I have several friends that this is happening to. Maybe they think we have more time to get ready for company?? Or more time to put it all back together afterwards.?? I am anxious to see what we are having and If DGD is sticking to the usual menu!! I texted DD#2 cause I think we should ask DSIL's DD. She is a young adult and by herself, especially since her Grandma just died unexpectedly a couple of months ago. she usually has to work on Thanksgiving as she works at and volunteers for holiday shifts at the Women's prison but she could stop by anytime it is convenient for her. Had to check cause sometimes that situation with her Dad is not always a good one. Just an on going thing since she was a teenager and he and my DD got married. Guess hard for a 14year old at that time. Honestly we get along fine, and not sure why that is but she is calling me Grandma easily now days.
It is chilly out there today, rain this morning early, heard it when I got up for the bathroom trip . It is 42° and not to get much warmer . windy but just put my jacket in back seat of car when I went to pick up my prescriptions and go to ATM at the bank. didn't have to get out of the car for either and heater works great. I don't like to drive with my coat or jacket on. So it goes in back seat all winter,. Just in case.
Glad you liked the poem, I was too tired to edit it so will go do that now. Not sure why when I copy and paste, the lines are always far apart. Have tried everything but edit works on here just time.

Lucy: The price of food here is outrageous. I used to pay about $100-125 per week for food for the two of us. I always buy the most expensive things for Jim. Now my bill runs from $275-350 per week. I pay $28.75 per pound for his steak. His blueberries are just under $6.00 for a 18 oz. box....I thank God that we can afford it. We hardly ever go anywhere since he is not comfortable in a restaurant and has little control over his bowels and kidneys. I've gotten to the point I don't even look for the sales...not enough time in a day for that.
Bobbie here today and not sure if she'll be here tomorrow.
See you all later for tuck - in.
Happy Memories Kathie

My new computer came today so I am off to get stuff transferred. It arrived on the correct day - I was goofed up! Now how could that be?
It is real wintery weather here today. No snow but temp is at freezing & a very strong wind. Feels much colder. I wore a lighter jacket when I went out this morning & that was not warm enough. When I take the computer I will wear my winter coat.
So.... till I get back, keep warm. I'll miss you but it shouldn't be a long time. These people are usually quite prompt.

Currently 58, sunshine. Windy. Freeze tonight.
Connie, that is great about the turkey prices. Are there a lot of poultry farms?
Wow, Kathie, groceries are expensive there!

Yes, there are Lucy, some around here and lot in Ohio which is where most of our groceries come from for the grocery stores. Chicken wings are quite a bit more expensive in restaurants and some fast food places have taken them off menu. Lot of pumpkins, both Ohio and Pa have loads of pumpkins so we have had pumpkin in cans here all along. Anxious to see if that continues. Just curious. Libby's especially.
Opened my bag with my prescriptions and only one bottle. called and pharmacist checked and it was still in drawer for the drive through. so back I went to pick it up. Clerk at window could not apologize enough. told her it was my fault as much as her's, and I didn't live that far away. Just glad it was not snowing or they would have had to have them deliver it as well. I did need it tomorrow. Not a good time for my area as highschool just letting out and those kids are horrible drivers.!!! Hot cars and trucks and no skills.

Hello, friends!
Diane and Connie, it's wonderful that your kids and grandkids want to be in your homes. Such a blessing! And they are bringing most of the food! Lucy, I think it's special that your DDIL is going to take you to their home for a few days! Wow!
Marlene, you must be relieved that the major part of your home's updates are finished. Sue has been doing some major updates, too.
I've been out and about . . . stopped by the main bank and picked up some documents, wandered around Kohl's. Kohl's has terrific items for Christmas right inside the doors. Had such a good time looking through the racks. I bought a jigsaw puzzle; it has 550 pieces with a photo of a tuxedo cat in the sink having a bath. The flea shampoo is sitting on the counter. I saw one with a hunting cabin that is much like the place I see in my mind when I'm trying to lower my blood pressure. It was 1000 pieces, though; so didn't buy it. (Working on it would have raised my BP!)
Next, I went to Walmart. Didn't buy even one item. Now I'm home. Done. Energy is gone.
Connie, love the poem! Thank you, again, for starting us and contributing every day!
Hope to be back later! ~~Mollyann
