WELCOME TO REGULAR & NEW POSTERS! This thread is full of encouragement & suggestions. New people, welcome! We encourage you to jump in. One day, one hour, one minute at a time is easier to handle than a week, etc. Lurkers, join in
Our goal is 21 days Binge Free (studies show 21 days to break old habits & start new ones!). Whether we make 21 or one, the point is to learn as we go, replace binges with other things to help us through stressful times. Some days are harder than others & we may slip; that's OK. The Binge Monster is in the shadows waiting to pounce. Hopefully this thread provides inspiration, courage, & support to become a Binge Survivor!
You may see different folks on different "Cycles." A Cycle is a 21 day block of consecutive binge-free days. Stay with us for as many cycles as you'd like.Everyone's definition of a BINGE is different. The Oxford Dictionary defines a binge as a spree of eating and drinking. To many of us, BINGE is defined as "eating without dignity." The dictionary defines "dignity" as a calm and serious manner or style, showing suitable formality or indicating that one deserves respect. Only you can define what a binge is for you. Going over points, as long as it was done with dignity and journaled (thereforeacknowledged and "owned") isn't binging--it is up to you to decide.
SPECIAL THANKS TO LESLIE5609 for starting this challenge on the Out of Control Board, in August '02, and thanks to all who keep it going.

23/28 November
Lori, I hope my kids don’t move too far away, but I know it’s a possibility. I hope you get to see at least one of them for Christmas. How did you sleep last night?
Kathy, I think the worst part of living with men is that the mess mainly comes from DH. I can tell the boys to put their stuff away and they do it, it’s not that easy with DH. You are right, he just doesn’t see things. He’ll walk right over a sock on the floor and never hesitate to toss something on the counter instead of putting/throwing it away. I’ve been trying to focus on his good traits, but… Nice that you had brunch with your birth mom. How are the dynamics with that? I’m always thrilled with how well my birth brothers blend with the family I grew up with.
Meg, love the colors in your home! I remember seeing pictures of your kitchen and loving the brightness. Did I mention that DH asked me what my brother (who owns a paining business) thought of my color choices for our renovation? 🙄 My main living area is Butter Up and has been for many years. When we repainted we did it the same color. That’s about the extent of how bold DH will go. We’re doing Indigo Batik and Jogging Path downstairs and I think DH might lose his mind.
Nancy, did you get your food planned out for today?

C121D2. 1183 calories, 17 old purple points, all nutritional values met.
I just dropped the kids off at the bus stop. They're heading for the NY Public Library where they will both work all day. Then to Newark Airport where Grace will fly to Kentucky and Steve to NC. It was wonderful having them. Heaven only knows when I'll see Grace again, but Steve and Cathy seem to make it here more often than I would have expected.
Jan - Yep. Today is planned. 1195 calories, 12 old purple points, every single nutritional value in line.

Day 4. Tweaking the plan a little. I really want to stick to the plan every day, with one planned treat (only one!). I'd love to be in weight loss mode for the next 3 weeks at least, then move to maintenance for the actual holidays (traveling to Maryland on the 18th but back here for actual Christmas Day). I've been writing my planned foods down on paper, then entering them online after I eat. There have been some surprises in the calories, so this week I'm going to try to enter everything online when I do my plan. Does that make sense? I need to see that my plan is where it should be (though often I'm spot-on, because I eat so many of the same foods from week to week).
Jan: Yes, the mess. I'm not willing to nag as much as I used to, partly because it ties me in knots and doesn't accomplish much. So I either do things myself (the way I like them), or I make him a list of what I'd like him to do. The list works, although I have to realize things don't get done instantly! Gives time to form my character, right? I definitely need to be more patient, kind, and grateful, and to focus on the big picture. This may not apply to you - I'm not preaching - this is just what I do. <heart emoji>
Peace.

Yesterday was a good strong on program day!! I'm finding the common link to my binging seems to be a lack of sleep. When I don't get a good night's sleep, my resistance muscle is just too weak...Hoping that being aware of this will help down the road. My goal is to keep calories between 1200-1300 and 26 WW pts until my scale average is back where I like it, 3 lbs less than where it is now. Once, I'm there - I want to add one "Christmas cookie or cake ball, treat" every other day so by the Christmas Day Celebrations, I can pass them up the treats easier....I hope...
Nancy, Back on Track feels good, doesn't it! Your kids and their families are living the dream life!!!
Jan, Glad you enjoyed your trip! I totally understand consoling self with treats...Normally, I can handle the kids not being around for the holidays knowing they are happy, healthy and doing what they love (after all, I raised them to follow their dreams, and that's what they're doing) this time, I just lost it (and what good did that do....)
Kathy, I'm so happy you are doing so well and finding your Healthy groove....
Meg, Just wondering where you enter online, MFP, WW, or something else?? I'm finding it so easy on both to track everyday foods - I created a "Daily" Meal with all my regular items and start off with that each day - and just tweak as needed.

Meg - Planning ahead makes lots of sense. I'm finding that out now. I enter what I consider a sensible plan and then tweak it until I hit the numbers I want. Mostly I eliminate snacks and sometimes adjust portion sizes. Or yesterday instead of a hot dog on a bun and a corn on the cob, I eliminated the bun. Well you get the idea. There's usually room for my enlightened ice cream bar in the evenings and one or even two small snacks throughout the day. Today a WW mini bar and 2 Kedem tea biscuits and yesterday a Built Bite with 4 oz ff milk. Wednesday my friend and I are going to the new Panera in our area. I always have a bagette and chicken noodle soup there. I'll have to be careful for the rest of the day. Again, it will help to track it all in advance. I'm going to bring my own Land o Lakes light butter because regular butter can be a killer. I forget whether you track points or calories, but either would work the same way. Worth a try?
Lori - Yes it feels marvelous. I think it's a great idea to allow the Christmas treats early so they don't become so mentally important on THE DAY. We seem to be on the same wave length re weight loss for a while. I've got 7 lbs to lose (1-1/2 already in the bank). I guess we need to be not quite so "normal" for a while <g>.

Nancy: Thanks, as always for the encouragement. Yes, I'd been resisting doing it this way (i.e. entering the foods for the day before the day begins and then adjusting as needed), but it makes perfect sense. I will make my plan and enter the data the night before and it should not take any more time than usual. Today was letter-perfect AND I did the rower and drank lots of water, so I'm off to a good start.
Lori: I've been using Cronometer this time around. I used to use MFP and now I'm sorry I didn't go back to it. Cronometer just does not have as many options (at least the free version).
And yes, I'm tracking calories. Haven't been on WW since the old core program when I started with this group.
Thanks, everyone, for being here!

Meg - Yeah for a letter perfect day. Why not go back to MFP? It's also free. Anxious to hear how you make out with planning and tweaking.
