Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Ruth, I hope that you are able to quickly and without too much difficulty, to find the two missing hats. You have all week to find them- but probably put them someplace special so that Dh could not find them. ( and if that someplace special was a place that I figured on, it could be months before I found them). I have a gift card for Ds that I cannot locate….I might end up going back to that store and getting another gift card, knowing that this one will show up. Its from a store that I shop at also, and I got it so Ds can get some of what he needs to set up an apartment.
The light show was a drive through one- and honestly very impressive. My friend and her husband took me- plus the visit to the craft fair (which was small but nice) as a birthday gift. Despite the fact that I am frequently out babysitting or working, I do not get out much at all to so something fun since losing Dh. They get out a lot….always have. It was lovely of them to include me, and I know they are a rare couple in that they still include me despite the fact that I am no longer part of a couple. I am so blessed by their friendship.
The craft fair had a lot of alcohol - local distilleries. I did buy (for a friend who I hope to see in a month or two) an adorable cat christmas ornament- which is made from a painted gourd. I will not be seeing my friend for a few months but she is unable to put her tree up this year- she has a 4 month old kitten who seems to be a real house trasher, as many young kittens are. So she will enjoy the ornament next year when hopefully her new feline friend is a bit more mature and can handle a Christmas tree.
Well the destruction begins in about an hour. Gotta get in the shower and ready for the work at my house. I pray it all goes well.
See ya later Ginny

Hope I did not say something insensitive earlier….I realize that I probably get out more than most who post here- getting out for more social type endeavors. Phyl might be the most socially busy of those who post here…but I was used to getting out for a quick meal or some form of entertainment. Guess I am still getting used to my altered lifestyle…but I hope I did not sound insensitive.

Ginny, you didn't sound at all insensitive to me and I'd bet that you won't to CJ either when she reads.I know you are a much more social person than I am. I don't like going out at all and I guess I'm a horrible person for not even wanting to go to dd's house for Christmas. It's not even the covid thing it's just that I like my peace and quiet. I'm lookinng forward to seeing ds and his family but there again, whenever I was there I couldn't wait to get home and back into my boring (to others) routine even though I love the grandchildren, and the my whole family for thaat matter, dearly.I'm in a rut I guess. And yes, I think Phyl is by far the most social of all of us. IN this world it's good that people have different interests. It makes the world a more interesting place.
Ginny, this time I'm pretty sure that I know where those two hats are so I won't have to search for hours. I hope ;you find the gift card but, as you said, when you do find it, if it's after you've bought a new one for your son you'll be able to use it yourself.
WE may be going out today for a little last minute grocery shopping and I want to pick up a couple little things for gifts for dh although I have no idea what those little things are going to be.

Oh and Ginny, happy birthday in advance as I might forget on your actual birthday. It's on Thursday, right? I seem to have a hard time with birthdays this year...that is in remembering when the birthdays are or just not realizing what day of the week it is or what the date of th4e current day is. I missed two of the grandchildren's birthdays this year. Or rather I was late in realizing that it was their birthday. I always send the gifts to the out of town grands late but I like to send them an email on their actual birthday.
See you all later

Hello Everyone - Happy Christmas Week Ginny - I didn't think you said anything insensitive and I'm glad that you have friends to spend time with and fun things to do And Happy Birthday in advance from me too Ruth - Hope your errands went well if you went out today, and that you were able to find the hats. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well It was a lot colder here today, but it was sunny which was nice. I was able to put together my 2 small Mini Sewing Bee quilt tops and also one of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt tops, that just leaves me one more Rainbow Scrap Challenge top to finish and I know I can get it done by the end of the year. I do think I could quilt the Santa Claus quilt myself and I'm hoping in January to get out my machine I do the quilting on and quilt a few more tops. I want to do another inventory of the tops I have finished and sort them by which ones I would do myself and which I'd like to have longarm quilted. Maybe this year I'll find someone to longarm some of them for me. The new block for the Happy Everything quilt came out today too and I hope to work on that tomorrow. We have a choice between a pieced block with a star or a stocking pieced block. I'm going to make the stocking since I want my quilt to reflect all the different holidays/seasons throughout the year. Hope the weather is nice where you are and that you get to do some crafting this week. Take care

Hi girls, went to the chiropractor today, one hip was tilted to the front and the other tilted back.
before that it was PENNY'S,that is getting to be another store ,it is getting hard to find what I might be looking for. can't try anything on dressing rooms are are closed.they say they are short of help and can't watch the rooms and can't be in the store for people buying. why do people not want to work anymore? OH WE COULD HAVE A BIG TALK ON THAT ONE,WE WON'T.
with the virus growing again we will curtail our bumin. most of my socializing is on the phone,or the sew days and bumin to appointments of getting groceries.
who knows the quilt shops might go back to online, phone or curbside .
the other night I did cast on the pink cable scarf again,as far as I GOT.
WINTER evenings ,I might work on the scarf or snowflake blocks(embroidery.)
cj I have seen the Santa fabric around here, nice fabric, nice quilt. PHYL

Good evening….
Gotta agree Phyl, CJ made a lovely quilt with that Santa fabric. Someday I will take on a Christmas quilt for myself. Phyl I am glad to hear that you are curtailing your activity a bit - better safe than sorry. Yes its become a sorry situation where no one wants to work. It just stinks and people have not only become lazy but also fearful of everything. I think good common sense is in order. That is all. Glad you are able to get some socializing on the phone. And I hope the visit to the chiropractor was able to get your hips aligned.
CJ-from looking at the symmetry of the Santa quilt, I think you could do a wonderful job of quilting it yourself. Yes its a good idea to go through those quilts you have made and figure out how to get them quilted. I hope you can find someone locally to do that. Is there a guild anywhere near you ?Perhaps they can suggest someone.
Ruth, good! Awesome news that you know where the missing two hats are. I like my peace and quiet also….but also know for me that some stuff just has to get done. A nice stretch of days at home with nothing to do…..is lovely. And such a nice time for getting some good crafting time in. Did you get out for some quick errands this afternoon?
The contractor left early today- so I went out to Walmart and BJ’s to get what I need for Christmas dinner. And yes, I replaced that gift card for Ds- I know that the other gift card is in the house and I put it someplace “safe”. I have put the new gift card where I will find it and will use the other gift card when I find it. I am working on an ornament….hope to get all the fabric on. And yes my birthday is Thursday. Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Yes I did go out and had a somewhat successful trip. I have always been a fast food addict but haven't been to any restaurant for over two years so I stopped at McD's today and found they had a sign that said"due to the increased number of covid cases we have decided to again close our lobby". So I ordered in drive thru and found that I should have just left. The new so called crispy chicken wasn't crispy at all and did not taste good. Then I went to Dominoes to get pizza for dh and their lobby was open. The employees were wearing masks. Strangely there weren't many people out. I thought with it being so close to Christmas there would be crowds.
I did find my hats where I thought I had put them so that was a relief. Ginny, You will find that card sometime.
CJ, you are the most productive person in doing crafts that I know.
Phyl, yes with all your medical issues the safest thing is to try to avoid being with people as much as possible. I wonder if this virus will ever get to the point to where we can go on with life as it was "before".
I'm going to start dgs' blanket this evening. Tomorrow will be gift sorting and wrapping day. Dh offered to help...he really dislikes wrapping things.

Wrapping is such a pain. Do not blame Dh for disliking wrapping.

The sun was shining a short while ago! We have more than a foot of snow in the backyard.
I'm celebrating the Winter Solstice today! Here's to days lengthening!
The first two cases of the omicron variant were on last night's news. They had just returned from South Africa. There will be more. Whether it's winter or summer, this area is a travel destination. In the winter, skiing is a big attraction. The winter break at the university is a mixed blessing. Things will be quieter for a few weeks, but there will be an uptick in cases for nice classes resume.
I place us in the antisocial category! Right now I don't need or want to socialize with anyone. My circle includes more people than I want as it is! In January, I may add some morning caregiver help, probably two mornings a week.

Sue, I'm all for lengthening days! And I guess you mean the first two cases in Montana right. I heard we have some here in Wyoming too.Guess that's why they closed McD's lobby again. I got an email from my 10 year old grandaughter saying "if you want something to do" then a whole bunch of pictures of crochet doll clothes . Then one of her sisters sent an email telling me that instead of the money I was going to send her for her birthday she would also like doll clothes and sent four pictures.

Well my first response is floating in cyber land.
Ruth, its so charming that your DGD knows her grandma loves her so much that she places special orders for crochet projects!! Doll clothes are challenging, as they are so tiny. I have confidence in you that you will be able to execute what she wants…and that you will have fun doing so!!!
Looks like we gain about 3 minutes a day after December 21- and it takes all the way until January 18 for a full hour to be added to our daylight time.
Sue, a foot is a lot of snow!!! I know you do not get out much either…but do have interaction with those who help care for Dh. They indicate that the new variant is mild but highly communicable. Hope that you have a good way to get what you need- prescriptions and groceries…as it sounds like we are not going back to lockdowns, but the need to be cautious.
Got another ornament done.
The work crew is done and gone. My only complaint is that they installed a HUGE dehumidifier which I am very unhappy about. I will speak tomorrow to the sales rep and request either that this one be removed or a smaller one installed. I did hold back some from the final payment, with the hope that that indicates to them my displeasure about this huge dehumidifier.
Tomorrow I have a routine doctor appt and will be working with new drivers for awhile. And an errand or two….but not a difficult day. Looking forward to things quieting down as the weekend approaches.

Yes don't we all dislike it strongly when our messages float away like that. My emails been doing that lately with only a part of my message done and it "sends" by itself.
Ginny, that's one of the reasons I hate to have to have repairmen. It always seems as though they do something we don't want done or they don't do all they're supposed to do. I hope you get the dehumidifier problem solved without too much more stress. I hope all goes well at the doctor's visit tomorrow and that the whole rest of your week is restful
I did get the great grandchildrens' gifts sorted out and wrapped and in bags and boxes to be transported whenever we take them over.A couple days ago dh mentioned taking them over tomorrow but we'll see what happens. Last year they didn't get the gifts from us until February.
I looked up the measurements my dgd gave me of her doll and it looks to me that it's the size of a 36 week gestation preemie. I'll be able to use preemie patterns. They'll still be small but not as smaill as I thought they might be. A few years back I made a bunch of clothing for the cabbage patch dolls I had here and sent both dolls and clothing to these same grandaughters and the ones that are too old for dolls now.I'm pretty sure those were a bit smaller than this doll. Most of those I made up as I went along and also adapted some from patterns intended for other dolls and they loved those so hopefully these will work out. Plus I think I'm better at crocheting now than I was then.
I started dgs' blanket last night and am working on it this evening but I keep making dumb mistakes so I took a break.
Sleep well everyone!

Hello Everyone Phyl - Hope the visit to the chiropractor helps you. I'm glad you are able to do some crafting. I saw a fast food restaurant nearby that was offering a $3000 sign on bonus. If I was a younger person and looking for work, I'd take that free $3000 and work there for awhile. There may be a minimum work time required, but I bet it wouldn't be more than a year. Ginny - Hope your doctor's appointment went well and you can get the workers to change out that dehumidifier. Hope you can get all the ornaments done that you want to make. Sue - That sure is a lot of snow (to me anyway), I hope that you are able to get out if you need to. Hope you stay safe from the virus. Ruth - I'm glad you finished gifts for the great grandchildren and those doll clothes sound like they will be cute - it's so sweet that your granddaughter requested you make them for her I'm with you on the repairman issues - I had 3 different ones here for my furnace and the furnace still doesn't work the way I think it should. had an eye exam today and my vision had only changed a little bit in one eye so the doctor said I could get by without buying glasses this year - that's unusual for me. But it was nice not to have to buy any glasses. After I left there I went in a few grocery stores nearby since I don't get to that area very often. There were a lot of people out shopping, so I was glad to pick up a few things and get home. I'm spoiled going out earlier in the day for shopping and also I would normally not go in a grocery store this close to Christmas. I finished the latest block for the Happy Everything quilt along and assembled another portion of this quilt. The quilt has 6 sections and we've finished 5 now, so we're getting close to being done (in February). I think I'll be alright with this top when it's done but it will never be a favorite of mine. I like quilts that look more cohesive and orderly. I had a surprise today - Pat Sloan showed one of my Fall Frolic quilts on her YouTube video today. That was such an honor since there were some really beautiful quilt tops for the Fall Frolic quilt along. Here's a link to her video if you want to watch. They show my quilt at the 3:16 second mark (the one with orange, gold, black and cream fabrics): www.youtube.com/watch?v=83gwsw-vCMwThe bruising on her face is from surgery she had recently to remove some cancer on her nose. If you watch the whole video, she shows the fabrics she is using for the Sweet Dreams quilt along which starts in January. I liked her fabric choice this time, so I bought the same fabrics. Take care everyone!
